The Open Series, launched in the now distant 2018, immediately received, at its debut, a warm welcome from industry operators and drivers. During the following editions, it has been able to welcome an ever-increasing number of participants from all over the world. Hence the idea, this year, to expand the trophy over four events, all on historical circuits or circuits with high international importance, and to dedicate it to a new karting audience. It starts from the South Garda Karting of Lonato, the forge par excellence of tomorrow’s talents for more than 30 years now, and then moves on to the brand-new Cremona Karting facility, a new-entry with regard to the WSK calendar. It then continues with the welcome return of the International Circuit 7 Laghi Kart, in Castelletto di Branduzzo, to conclude, finally, with the International Circuit Napoli of Sarno, another inevitable destination for our championships. However, here we are certainly not restricting the news because, in addition to the classic KZ2 and MINI classes, the two X30 Senior and X30 Junior classe of Iame, and - in the last round - the newborn OKN and OKNJ, established by FIA Karting and ACI Sport, will take to the track. Further proof that for WSK Promotion only one thing counts: to widen the pool of practitioners more and more to expand the karting movement as much as possible.

L’Open Series, lanciata nell’ormai lontano 2018, ha immediatamente - al debutto - ricevuto un caloroso benvenuto da parte degli operatori del settore e dei piloti. Nel corso delle successive edizioni, poi, è stata capace di accogliere un sempre crescente numero di partecipanti, provenienti da ogni parte del mondo. Da qui l’idea, quest’anno, di espandere il trofeo su quattro appuntamenti, tutti su circuiti storici o dal grande peso internazionale, e di dedicarlo a un nuovo pubblico kartistico. Si parte dal South Garda Karting di Lonato, la fucina per eccellenza dei talenti di domani da più di 30 anni a questa parte, per passare poi al nuovissimo impianto del Cremona Karting, una new-entry per quanto riguarda il calendario WSK. Si prosegue con il gradito ritorno del Circuito Internazionale 7 Laghi Kart, a Castelletto di Branduzzo, per concludere, infine, con il Circuito Internazionale Napoli di Sarno, altra meta immancabile per i nostri campionati. Ma non ci limitiamo di certo qui con le novità perché, oltre alle classiche classi KZ2 e MINI, scenderanno in pista le due categorie X30 Senior e X30 Junior della Iame, enell’ultimo round - le neonate OKN e OKNJ, istituite da FIA Karting e ACI Sport. L’ennesima riprova che per WSK Promotion conta solo una cosa: allargare sempre di più il bacino dei praticanti per espandere il più possibile il movimento kartistico.

South Garda Karting is a real reference point for international karting, the “gym” preferred by Formula 1 drivers who want to savour the excitement of karting again. Opened in 1988, the circuit was extended to the current 1,200 metres in 2015. This year it hosted the Champions Cup and the opening leg of the Super Master Series.

Cremona Karting is a newly built facility, opened in 2015 in a reduced version of 1,000 metres. In 2019, the track and paddock were expanded, bringing the total length of the track to 1,200 metres and introducing a new straight of 220 metres. It will make its WSK Championship debut this year, hosting both the Open Series and the Super Master Series in March.

Il Cremona Karting è un impianto di recente costruzione, aperto nel 2015 in una versione ridotta di 1.000 metri. Nel 2019, la pista e il paddock sono stati ampliati, portando la lunghezza totale del tracciato a 1.200 metri e introducendo un nuovo rettilineo di 220 metri. Farà il suo esordio quest’anno nei campionati WSK, ospitando sia la Open Series sia la Super Master Series a marzo.

Since its opening in 2002, the 7 Laghi Kart is considered one of the main establishments in Italy. The circuit, 1,256 metres long, is located within the “7 Laghi World”, which offers many services and attractions such as a motel, restaurant, jet ski and sport fishing. It officially returns to the WSK calendar as the venue for the third round of the Open Series.

Fin dalla sua apertura avvenuta nel 2002, il 7 Laghi Kart è considerato una delle strutture principali in Italia. Il circuito, lungo 1.256 metri, si trova all’interno del “7 Laghi World”, che offre tanti servizi e attrazioni come motel, ristorante, moto d’acqua e pesca sportiva. Torna ufficialmente nel calendario WSK come sede del terzo appuntamento della Open Series.

INT’L CIRCUIT NAPOLI SARNO [SA]

Starting from 1999, the International Circuit Napoli has been hosting the most prestigious international competitions. In 2021, the track underwent a major restyling that includes a total track length of 1,600 metres and a new starting straight, inaugurated at a WSK event. It is the longest track on the calendar and hosted last weekend’s third round of the Super Master Series.

A partire dal 1999, l’International Circuit Napoli ospita le più prestigiose gare internazionali. Nel 2021, il tracciato ha subito un importante restyling che prevede una lunghezza totale del tracciato pari a 1.600 metri e un nuovo rettilineo di partenza, inaugurato proprio in un evento WSK. È la pista più lunga del calendario e ha ospitato lo scorso weekend il terzo round della Super Master Series.

READY FOR THE CHALLENGE?

Despite its young age, the WSK Open Series has established itself in a few years as an essential competition as part of the great international calendar. Not surprisingly, world champions such as Marco Ardigò, Viktor Gustavsson, Jeremy Iglesias, Marijn Kremers, Noah Milell and Lorenzo Travisanutto competed on the track, as well as Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Kean Nakamura Berta, Freddie Slater, Tuukka Taponen and Enzo Tarnvanichkul. There are many new features in view of the 2023 edition: the championship expands to a total of four events (scheduled between the months of March and June) and the KZ2, MINI Gr.3 and MINI Gr.3 U10 classes will be protagonists, in addition to the X30 Senior and X30 Junior single-brand classes, with Iame engine, and the newborn OKN and OKNJ. Who will be the next drivers to leave their name imprinted in the roll of honour? Meanwhile, let’s retrace together the names of those who excelled from 2018 to 2022.

Nonostante la sua giovane età, la WSK Open Series si è imposta in pochi anni come una competizione irrinunciabile, all’interno del grande calendario internazionale. Non a caso, in pista si sono sfidati campioni del mondo come Marco Ardigò, Viktor Gustavsson, Jeremy Iglesias, Marijn Kremers, Noah Milell e Lorenzo Travisanutto, oltre ad Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Kean Nakamura Berta, Freddie Slater, Tuukka Taponen ed Enzo Tarnvanichkul. KZ2 AND MINI: THE BEST

The opening stage of the Open Series at South Garda Karting in Lonato (9 – 12 March) marks the beginning of a renewed adventure for an event that has been part of the international karting calendar since 2018. Also present in this 2023 edition are two classes considered real pillars of our championships: the MINI and the KZ2. We then asked ourselves which have been, for a year now, the most successful drivers of these two classes.

To answer this question, we analysed all WSK events starting from 12 months ago, when the 4th and final round of the 2022 Super Master Series was held, to reach round 2 of the WSK Super Master Series 2023, held for about 10 days on the Franciacorta Karting Track. Nine/ten events (and their winners) that show us which drivers were the most frequently present on the podium.

La tappa d’apertura della Open Series al South Garda Karting di Lonato (9 – 12 marzo) segna l’inizio di una rinnovata avventura per una manifestazione che fa parte nel calendario karting internazionale fin dal 2018. Presenti, anche in questa edizione 2023, due categorie considerate dei veri e propri pilastri dei nostri campionati: la MINI e la KZ2. Ci siamo chiesti, allora, quali siano stati, da un anno a questa parte, i piloti più vincenti di queste due classi.

Per dare una risposta, abbiamo analizzato tutti gli eventi WSK a partire da 12 mesi fa, quando si è tenuto il 4° e ultimo round della Super Master Series 2022, per arrivare fino al round 2 della WSK Super Master Series 2023, tenutosi circa 10 giorni fa sul circuito Franciacorta Karting Track. Nove/ dieci eventi (e relativi vincitori) che ci mostrano quali siano i piloti che con maggior frequenza sono presenti sul podio.

A great performance by Brando Pozzi (Tony Kart/ Iame) on the occasion of the Champions Cup. The Italian driver has been in the top positions since Friday’s qualifying practice, when he recorded a time less than a tenth slower than that set by Pacome Weisenburger (Redspeed/Iame), who was in pole position. Pozzi emerged at the top of the rankings during the subsequent qualifying heats, winning all three scheduled races, reaffirming his dominance also on Sunday morning in prefinal A. In the final, when the lights went out, Pozzi got off a perfect start and remained firmly in the lead, but Weisenburger overtook the Italian after four laps. The M2 Racing driver responded in kind to the Frenchman and, on lap 8, overtook him. In the second part of the race Federico Rossi (Tony Kart/ Iame) tried to undermine the leadership of Pozzi and joined him under the chequered flag, but the latter won by just 5 thousandths of a second. After recovering 12 positions between the qualifying practice and eliminatory heats, the Belgian Elie Goldstein (TBKart/Iame) finished in third place.

Il pilota italiano occupa le posizioni di alta classifica già a partire dalle qualifiche di venerdì, quando registra un crono di meno di un decimo più lento rispetto quello fatto segnare da Pacome Weisenburger (Redspeed/Iame), autore della pole position. Pozzi emerge in testa alla graduatoria nel corso delle successive qualifying heat, conquistando tutte e tre le gare in programma, ribadendo il proprio dominio anche alla domenica mattina nella prefinale A. In finale, allo spegnimento dei semafori, partenza perfetta per Pozzi che rimane saldo al comando, ma Weisenburger passa l’italiano dopo quattro giri. Il portacolori di M2 Racing risponde per le rime al francese e, all’8° giro, lo sorpassa. Nella seconda parte di gara Federico Rossi (Tony Kart/Iame) prova a insidiare la leadership di Pozzi e lo affianca sotto la bandiera a scacchi, ma quest’ultimo vince per appena 5 millesimi di secondo. Dopo aver recuperato 12 posizioni tra qualifiche e manche eliminatorie, il belga Elie Goldstein (TBKart/Iame) chiude al terzo posto.

An almost perfect start to the season for Riccardo Ferrari (Tony Kart/Iame) at the Champions Cup in Lonato. Already in Friday’s qualifying practice session, the Italian driver was a candidate for the role of main protagonist achieving the second-best time, very close to the poleman Alberto Fulgori Jr. (Kosmic/Iame). However, it was in the subsequent qualifying heats that Ferrari dominated the scene, thanks to three wins out of three. On Sunday morning he took a fifth place in the prefinal which, however, did not prevent him from starting in pole position in the decisive final of the afternoon. At the start, Ferrari did not stay in the lead and gradually slipped to fourth place, but in a few laps, he returned to the lead and began a long battle with Tiziano Kuzhnini (Tony Kart/Iame) and Sacha Van’t Pad Bosch (Redspeed/Iame). The final three-way sprint rewarded Ferrari, first, ahead of Kuzhnini at +0.049 and Van’t Pad Bosch at +0.114, but the latter received a penalty of 5 seconds for an early start. Lorenzo Campos (Tony Kart/Iame), fourth at the finish line, consequently reached the lowest step of the podium.

Un inizio di stagione pressoché perfetto, per Riccardo Ferrari (Tony Kart/Iame) alla Champions Cup di Lonato. Già nella sessione di prove cronometrate di venerdì, il pilota italiano si candida al ruolo di protagonista principale marcando il secondo miglior tempo, vicinissimo al poleman Alberto Fulgori Jr. (Kosmic/Iame). Ma è nelle successive qualifying heat che Ferrari domina la scena, grazie a tre vittorie su tre. La domenica mattina coglie un quinto posto in prefinale che, tuttavia, non gli impedisce di partire in pole position nella decisiva finale del pomeriggio. Allo start, Ferrari non mantiene la prima posiziona e scivola progressivamente al quarto posto, ma in pochi giri ritorna al comando e inizia una lunga battaglia con Tiziano Kuzhnini (Tony Kart/Iame) e Sacha Van’t Pad Bosch (Redspeed/Iame). La volata finale a tre premia Ferrari, primo, davanti a Kuzhnini a +0.049 e a Van’t Pad Bosch a +0.114, ma quest’ultimo riceve una penalità di 5 secondi per partenza anticipata.

Every Driver can use from the beginning of the Qualifying Practice, Qualifying Heats, PREFINAL and FINAL:

. MINI GR3, X30S, X30J = max 8 slick or rain tyres, OKN, OKNJ (4 front tyres and 4 rear tyres).

Ogni conduttore può utilizzare, per le prove ufficiali di qualificazione, manche eliminatorie, PREFINALE e FINALE:

. KZ2 = 10 pneumatici “slick” o “rain” (5 anteriori + 5 posteriori).

MATERIAL / MATERIALE

For every event the Drivers can use the following material. Chassis: max 2 models whose make is to be specified by the Entrants on their registration.

Engines: max 2 models whose make is to be specified by the Entrants on their registration.

The material will be identified at Scrutineering (location and time to be indicated in the Event Supplementary Regulations) by the Scrutineers.

Per ogni prova i conduttori possono disporre del seguente materiale.

Telai: max 2 modelli della stessa marca dichiarata dai concorrenti in sede di iscrizione.

Motori: max 2 modelli della stessa marca dichiarata dai concorrenti in sede di iscrizione.

Il materiale sarà identificato durante le verifiche tecniche (il luogo e l’orario saranno indicati nelle regolamentazioni supplementari dell’evento) dal Commissario Tecnico.
