EDITORIAL by Luca De Donno It is WSK Open Cup time. After the first part of the year, which is full of races in Italy and abroad, the WSK Promotion organizing machine starts back up for an equally exciting season finale. The biggest piece of news with regard to the next races is that the Open Cup will be held over two weekends, as opposed to the 2018 edition, when it was run in a single race. In 2020, it will even be done over three rounds! It starts at Lonato, at the historic South Garda Karting circuit which has already hosted a stage of the WSK Master Series and one of the Euro Series. For the decisive test, instead, we will move to Castelletto di Branduzzo, at the International 7 Laghi Circuit on the weekend of November 10th. The scores follow the classic incremental point scoring system which provides for a greater number of points to be won at each race, with a major portion of these series points awarded at the second round in Castelletto. A guaranteed race of uncertainty and performance until the very last lap. Because in karting, history teaches us, it is never really over… until it is over. È tempo di WSK Open Cup. Dopo una prima parte dell’anno ricchissima di gare, in Italia e all’estero, la macchina organizzativa di WSK Promotion si rimette in moto per un finale di stagione altrettanto elettrizzante. La novità più grande delle prossime gare è quella di aver programmato l’Open Cup su due weekend (al contrario dell’edizione 2018, quando era in gara unica. Mentre nel 2020 sarà addirittura su tre round). Si parte con la tappa di Lonato, nello storico circuito South Garda Karting che ha già ospitato una tappa della WSK Master Series e una della Euro Series. Per la prova decisiva, invece, ci si sposterà a Castelletto di Branduzzo, presso l’International Circuit 7 Laghi, nel weekend del 10 novembre. I punteggi seguono il classico schema incrementale, che prevede un maggior numero di punti in palio a ogni gara: una garanzia di incertezza e spettacolo fino all’ultimo giro. Perché nel karting, la storia insegna, non è mai davvero finita... finché non è finita.

Built in 1988 under the guidance of Angelo Corberi, the South Garda Karting Circuit in Lonato has been recently renovated. This structure, located in Italy, is undoubtedly one of the most important and popular kart tracks at the international level. The circuit features a total length of 1200 meters and can accommodate up to 2000 kart enthusiasts.

An incredible season for Lorenzo Travisanutto. The Italian driver, after taking third place in the Master Series wins the WSK Euro Series proving to be both, good at attacking, and blocking other drivers. After having achieved success in the finals of round 2 and a second place in round 3, in fact, in the last race in Adria the KR driver prefers not to overdo it and control the race in view of a position that guarantees him the final victory in the championship. The fourth place at the finish line is enough for him to reach 302 points and get his hands on the winner’s trophy. This success has undoubtedly provided enthusiasm and further confidence to Travisanutto, who then flew to Finland in September to win the World Championship. Winning, after all, helps you to win again.

In the OK-Junior the fastest driver is Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The Italian driver starts out calmly, but wins the round 2 finals, the prefinal of round 3 and, above all, is the absolute star performer of the last racing weekend in Adria. On the italian circuit, the racer proved to be essentially unbeatable, winning a jackpot of victories which established him at the top of the standings with an amazing amount of 354 points. Not a bad achievement which is even more of a surprise when compared to the points of the runner-up, Thomas Ten Brinke, at 286 points despite being consistently competitive throughout the season. The third place goes to Bedrin, who dominated the first round, but was not as successful in the following stages.

Una stagione incredibile quella di Lorenzo Travisanutto. Il pilota italiano, dopo il terzo posto conquistato nella Master Series vince la WSK Euro Series dimostrando di essere bravo sia ad attaccare sia a contenere. Dopo aver ottenuto il successo nella finale del round 2 e il secondo posto in quella del round 3, infatti, nell’ultima di Adria il pilota KR preferisce non esagerare e controllare la corsa in ottica di un piazzamento che gli garantisca la vittoria finale in campionato. Il quarto posto sul traguardo gli basta per arrivare a quota 302 punti e mettere le mani sul trofeo del vincitore. Questo successo ha senza dubbio dato entusiasmo e ulteriore consapevolezza a Travisanutto, che nel mese di settembre è poi volato in Finlandia per conquistare anche il titolo iridato. Vincere, d’altronde, aiuta a vincere.

Nella OK-Junior il più veloce di tutti è Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Il pilota italiano parte in sordina, vince la finale del round 2, la prefinale del round 3 e, soprattutto, è l’assoluto mattatore dell’ultimo week end di gara corso ad Adria. Nel circuito italiano, infatti, si dimostra sostanzialmente imbattibile, conquistando un en-plein di vittorie che lo confermano in testa alla classifica con un bottino di 354 punti. Una dote niente male, che sorprende ancora di più se raffrontata ai punti del secondo classificato, Thomas Ten Brinke, fermatosi a 286 nonostante anche lui si sia dimostrato costantemente competitivo per tutta la stagione. Terzo classificato è Bedrin, dominatore del primo round ma meno brillante nelle tappe successive.

The MINI category offers an exciting sprint finish. The winner is Rashid Al Dhaheri, the author of a great recovery during the championship. Until the final stage in Adria, in fact, William Macintyre was at the top of the standings, who started by winning the finals in Sarno and Angerville but dropped behind in the subsequent events. Behind him, the United Arab Emirates racer Al Dhaheri maintains a remarkable tenacity which gives him an absolutely well-deserved title despite a single victory in the prefinals of round 2 and no final ended with his arms up in the air. A title which is added to that already won in the WSK Master series and makes Al Dhaheri the absolute protagonist of the 2019 season in the youngest drivers’ class. La categoria MINI regala un entusiasmante arrivo in volata: a vincere è Rashid Al Dhaheri, autore di un grande recupero nel corso del campionato. Fino alla tappa finale di Adria, infatti, in cima alla classifica c’era William Macintyre, partito vincendo le finali di Sarno e Angerville ma calato nei successivi appuntamenti. Alle sue spalle, invece, Al Dhaheri mantiene una grande costanza di prestazioni e, così, nonostante una sola vittoria nella prefinale del round 2 e nessuna finale conclusa a braccia alzate, il pilota degli Emirati Arabi Uniti conquista un titolo assolutamente meritato. Titolo, tra l’altro, che si somma a quello già vinto nella WSK Master Series e che fa di Al Dhaheri l’assoluto protagonista della stagione 2019 della classe dei piloti più giovani.

For 2019, the WSK Euro Series, only in the stages raced in Italy, was the Italian ACI Karting Championship. The OKJ winner is again Andrea Kimi Antonelli, thanks especially to his excellent performance in the last round in Adria. In the OK category, instead, positions are reversed with respect to the Euro Series and the winner is Dino Beganovic. The Ward Racing driver has a greater continuity, especially in the first two “Italian” rounds and is good in the last stage in Adria while not running into any problems and not giving anything up to his closest opponents. Per il 2019, la WSK Euro Series, nelle sole tappe in Italia, era valevole anche come Campionato Italiano ACI Karting. Nella OKJ il vincitore è lo stesso: Andrea Kimi Antonelli, grazie soprattutto alla maiuscola prestazione nell’ultimo round di Adria. In OK, invece, si ribaltano le posizioni rispetto alla Euro Series e vince Dino Beganovic. Il pilota della Ward Racing ha dalla sua una maggiore continuità, specie nei primi due round “italiani”. Ed è bravo nell’ultima tappa di Adria a non incorrere in sbavature e non concedere spazio agli avversari più vicini.

WSK 2020 CALENDAR WSK Promotion already looks towards the future and presents the 2020 season. Once again, the coming year will be a year of fantastic karting, with 5 competitions by WSK for a total of 12 races. It will start on January 26th in the familiar area of Adria with the WSK Champions Cup, although the drivers will have the chance to already “taste” the track on the 18th and 19th of January, the dates of the official winter tests. The Master Series in 4 rounds is verified as well as the last race of the Euro Series at night, always in Adria. The Open Cup gets even bigger in 3 rounds, while the classic season finale is always entrusted to the Finals Cup which, in 2020, will reach its tenth edition.

WSK Promotion guarda già al futuro e presenta la stagione 2020. Ancora una volta, quello che verrà sarà un anno di grande karting, con 5 competizioni by WSK per un totale di 12 gare. Si parte il 26 gennaio, nella familiare cornice di Adria con la WSK Champions Cup, anche se i piloti avranno modo di “assaggiare” il tracciato già il 18 e 19 gennaio, date dei winter test ufficiali. Confermata la Master Series su 4 round e l’ultima gara della Euro Series in notturna, sempre ad Adria. La Open Cup si ingrandisce su 3 round, mentre il classico finale di stagione è sempre affidato alla Final Cup, che nel 2020 arriverà alla decima edizione.

In 2014, ACI Sport and WSK Promotion launched the F.4 Championship powered by Abarth with the desire to create a reference point for all those kart drivers who wanted to pursue a future in a single seater. It can certainly be said that the goal was achieved by looking both at the ever-increasing number of participants and the names of many drivers who, over these six seasons, have been behind the wheel of these single seaters. Many of them, today, are racing in higher Formula categories and the winner of the first championship, Lance Stroll, has already arrived in Formula 1. The road is open, all one needs to do is follow it.

Nel 2014, ACI Sport e WSK Promotion hanno lanciato l’F.4 Championship powered by Abarth con la volontà di creare una realtà di riferimento per tutti quei kartisti che inseguono un futuro in monoposto. Il risultato si può dire certamente raggiunto, guardando sia alle sempre più numerose adesioni, sia ai tanti nomi di piloti che, nel corso delle sei stagioni vissute, si sono avvicendati alla guida di queste monoposto. Molti di loro, oggi, corrono in formule maggiori, e il vincitore della prima edizione del campionato, Lance Stroll, è già arrivato in Formula 1. La strada è aperta: non resta che seguirla.

When it is said that the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth has the ambition to bring drivers from karting to the world of the single seaters, it is not a lie. The 2019 champion is, in fact, the Norwegian Dennis Hauger who, in 2015 won, at a very young age, the WSK Champions Cup and the Super Master Series in the 60 MINI category. Since then, only 4 years have passed, yet Hauger has come a long way and this year, after a season as a protagonist, at Mugello he took the decisive step towards winning the championship with a round to spare. Congratulations!

Quando si dice che l’Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth ha l’ambizione di portare i piloti dal karting al mondo delle monoposto, non è una bugia. Il campione 2019 è, infatti, il norvegese Dennis Hauger, che nel 2015 vinse, giovanissimo, la WSK Champions Cup e la Super Master Series nella classe 60 MINI. Da allora sono passati solo 4 anni, ma Hauger di strada ne ha fatta e quest’anno, dopo una stagione vissuta da protagonista, al Mugello ha fatto il passo decisivo verso la vittoria del campionato con un round di anticipo. 2019 has seen ACI Sport and WSK Promotion launching the Formula Regional European Championship certified by FIA. A championship that strengthens and completes that path which, from karting, leads to the leadership positions of motorsport. It is not by coincidence that the very first championship was won by Frederik Vesti, a driver who in 2015 won the WSK Final Cup.

Il 2019 ha visto ACI Sport e WSK Promotion lanciare la Formula Regional European Championship certified by FIA. Una realtà che rafforza e completa quel percorso che, dal kart, porta ai vertici del motorsport. The 2019 WSK Open Cup final classification is obtained by adding up, for each Driver, all the results of the HEATS, PREFINAL and FINAL. In case of ex-aequo the highest number of best positions in the FINAL will be decisive. In case of further exaequo, the highest number of best positions in the PREFINAL will be decisive. In case of further ex-aequo, the highest number of best positions in the final ranking of the HEATS will be decisive.

Tyres are distributed by a draw and must be paid for on each event directly to the relevant Manufacturer and will be controlled with the “Barcode” system during the Qualifying Practice, Qualifying Heats, PREFINAL, Final B and FINAL.

GASOLINE

The gasoline (KART RON102) will be given on the track with 25 lt containers by PANTA SPA in compliance with the CIK-FIA Technical Regulations (Art. 21). DIGATRON DT 15 devices are used to control that the gasoline complies with these regulations, comparing it with a sample taken from the fuel distributor (PANTA SPA). In addition, the Stewards of the meeting, after hearing the opinion of the Technical Scrutineers, are entitled to rule, at their sole discretion, that the entire contents of a vehicle’s gas tank be replaced with a mix consisting of gasoline taken from the fuel distributor above and oil, whose make and percentage shall be declared by the Entrant.

La benzina (KART RON102) sarà distribuita direttamente in pista dalla società PANTA SPA con fustini da 25 litri conforme al Regolamento Tecnico CIK-FIA (Art.21). La conformità della benzina è controllata con apparecchiature DIGATRON DT 15, per comparazione con campione prelevato dalla PANTA. I Commissari Sportivi, sentiti i Commissari Tecnici, hanno inoltre la facoltà di disporre, a loro discrezione, la sostituzione dell’intero contenuto del serbatoio con la miscela costituita da benzina prelevata dal distributore di cui sopra e di olio di marca e percentuale dichiarati dal concorrente.
