EDITORIAL You spend a year planning race events, organizing them, adjusting every detail to perfection. When the season starts, you start living the track day in and day out, making sure everything flows along smoothly and worrying about what could be improved for the next event up on schedule. Then you finally reach the time when all your efforts reach their apex, the dates corresponding to those events that, by tradition, prestige, and “gravitas of the title in contention, can make the career of a driver. Today is one of those days, destined to engrave a permanent chapter in the golden book of karting! And we are ready to experience it in a place that emanates the force of motor legendry from every letter of its name: Le Mans. We are all set. The wind is still rustling through the trees and the late summer skies are swollen with uncertainty. But engines are eagerly grumbling, ready to roar. And to resound a new day in karting history. ACADEMY REPORT
ROUND 2 ACTION With her second win over two rounds, Marta Garcia Lopez has come one step closer to securing the 2015 CIK-FIA Academy Trophy victory, with Lloveras in tow by 13 points and Lahos by as many as 21. It will all come down to this weekend’s final battle in Le Mans
The close to 50 young talents from 35 countries of the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy hit the midway mark in Genk. Coming into the event, Marta Garcia – the 14-year old Spanish driver selected by the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission was leading the way by a short gap from Alfie Brown (UK), with Russia’s Zakhar Slutskiy and fellow Spaniards Xavier Lloveras Brunet and Alejandro Lopez Lahoz rounding off the top 5. In Kristianstad, Garcia left as she came: victorious! It was no easy feat, however. After Qualifyings, it was Lloveras on pole (55”635), followed by Slutskiy and Lahoz, with Garcia “only” 4th (109 thousands from the lead). After the Heats, Lloveras was still on top, this time followed by Lahoz and Garcia, with Brazil’s Murilo Della Coletta 4th. In the Prefinal, Dutchman Dylan Buys unexpectedly broke up the Spanish top 3, winning over Lloveras
and Garcia, while Lahoz dropped to 17th. Callum Bradshaw and Théo Nouet wrapped up the top 5, followed by hard-chargers Brown, up by 23 after winning the 2nd Chance Heat, and Michelangelo Amendola, up by 21 spots and author of the best lap. The game looked wide open for the Final, but here Marta Garcia “struck back” and took another great victory. Lloveras came in 2nd and Lahoz completed the all-Spanish podium, after climbing up 13 positions and inheriting the third step from Amendola (demoted to 27th by a penalty). With these premises, it’s going to be a wild last act. ACADEMY - PREFINAL P.

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS
KZ - CAMPONESCHI It was no easy feat, but he kept believing and going at it and in the end he succeeded: after rising to the top of the non-shifter world in 2012, the Italian secured his entry in the elite class of gearbox karting, winning the 2015 European title ahead of teammate and defending KZ World Champion Marco Ardigò. He has finally joined the table of top names, where ambition soars far and wide Flavio Camponeschi’s knighting as the 2015 CIK-FIA European KZ Champion was already a given by the end of round two in Zuera. In fact, the only moment the Tony Kart factory driver was not in command of the title hunt was after the Heats in Round 1 in Sarno (when he was standing third). Yet, by the final of the opening weekend Ardigò was already in the lead and from there he never came down, doing a great job of keeping his eye on the end goal and holding the intense competition at bay. After back to back victories, the Italian arrived to the third and final round in Genk in an outright state of supremacy, so solid that it remained unquestioned even after a surprising 30 second penalty (for unhooked front bumper) turned his third place finish into a thirteenth place standing. We knew Camponeschi had what it takes to win, since he was already European Champion in 2008 in KF2 and CIK-FIA World Champion in KF1 in 2012; but his victory of the European crown in the top-most shifter class comes as a definite consecration of his unquestionable talent.
12
KZ2 - JOHANSSON “The strategy the team and I came up with worked to perfection and the kart was impeccable!”: the humble comment with which Johansson celebrated his KZ2 European crown victory says it all. Yes, he has a competitive kart and a strong team (Energy Corse made the European podium for 13 years straight); but it was Joel’s quiet yet fierce determination that drove this great combination to victory In 2013, Joel Johansson lost the European Championship by just one point - it was his first international season. In 2015, third season among the heavy weights of karting, he opened his European title hunt in the rear of the field (only 22nd in round 1 in Sarno, with 6 points to his name, all collected in the Heats). But, instead of giving up, he never stopped believing for one second that winning could be possible this time around. The Energy Corse driver immediately began his rebound in Zuera, where he was up to second after the Heats and again second in the Final, this time collecting serious points. In Genk, the Swede was up against fierce competition, but he again remained focused and determined and did a good job of managing the weekend and capitalizing on rivals’ difficulties. He scaled to the top spot after the Heats and then sealed the deal with a pair of third place finishes in the Prefinal and Final. Johansson ran a steady and mature championship, proving that if you work hard at it and really want it, anything is possible, even becoming 2015 European KZ2 Champion. This is what winners are made of.
