EDITORIAL Two more races and the great CIK-FIA 2017 karting season will reach its conclusion for all major titles. After an exciting tour of Europe, which saw international karting racing on some of the best and challenging circuits in the world, Germany hosts the most prestigious event for the shifter classes. In fact, Wackersdorf sees KZ and KZ2 competing for the World Championship and the International Super Cup: two titles worth an entire career, and all youngsters who race in karts dream of winning it during their career. On the other hand, the winners records also show, as well as the best karting drivers ever, such as Beggio and Forè, the names of F1 racers, such as Trulli and Verstappen. This is because the KZ World Championship is a dream to be realised, but it is also a launching pad to reach the highest levels in motorsport.

TRACK CHARACTERISTICS The Wackersdorf ProKart Raceland is one of the world's most significant karting circuits. Always included as one of the most popular circuits for CIK-FIA races, it is housed in a complex that also has indoor karting, a restaurant and all the services that make racing weekends comfortable and professional. The circuit is rather fast, with 8 right handers and 6 left-hand corners. There is also a small hill that sees karts get airborne and a very fast steep turn, to ensure everything necessary for races fought to the last breath.

Since KZ has been running, in other words since 2007, there have been 10 races in the World Championships (2013 to 2016) and World Cups (2007 - 2012). CRG is undoubtedly the most successful chassis of the last decade, with 7 titles won, including the last two. The other three title wins went to Intrepid, Praga and Tony Kart.
05
WINNERS
KZ EURO CHAMPION European Champion and KZ World Champion at the same time. It’s true that this may vanish in Wackersdorf, but since they are two of the most prestigious karting titles in the category, being the holder of both for only one month is one of the feats that few people have managed to accomplish.
PAOLO DE CONTO CRG - TM Racing
06
Winning both European and World Championship worth an entire career. And if De Conto will win again in Wackersdorf, will mean that "unwelcome comparisons" can begin. In any case, it is certainly the case that no one can take away De Conto's memory of dominanting the European Championship, in which only the rules over discarding points prevented him from celebrating victory one race before the end. Not bad because after the three consecutive victories in the first three rounds, it was enough to come 4th in Kristianstad after the rounds and third place in the final (both discarded as his "worse" championship results) to make it clear who the best gear karts driver in Europe was. One of the best karting drivers for years, De Conto has been part of some of the most prominent and prestigious official teams, but he seems to have found CRG his ideal "habitat", acquiring that maturity that, combined with indisputable talent, made him a lead player in the last season. The 2017 European Championship was truly an incredible demonstration of all this, with supremacy gained on different circuits, under different conditions and against prestigious opponents. All of which, of course, was supported by CRG - TM Racing resources that were always up to the challenge. Confirming your ability at certain levels is always the hardest thing, but De Conto will still be the man to beat at the start of the Wackersdorf race.
KZ2 EURO CHAMPION Leon Kรถhler wins a unexpected but substantially absolutely deserved European title, which enriches a winners record still to be completed but which surely promises well. The ingredients are all there, and the prestigious european victory allow him to dream that he can achieve even better results. When a championship takes place over three races, with the worst results of the rounds to be discarded, the unexpected is always around the corner. That is why victory in the KZ2 European Chapionship is, as few others are, the synthesis of all the capabilities a driver must have: talent, intelligence, consistency, concentration and a little luck (as well, of course, as top material such as the Tony Kart chassis powered by Vortex has always proven to be). Kรถhler immediately showed his talent in the first round in Genk, with impeccable qualifications and by coming third in the final. Intelligence and consistency were the protagonists of the next round, in Le Mans, with a fourth place in the final, without risking too much, which earned him the 16 points and thus being ranked third because the driver in second place (Pelizzari) was not competing for championship standings. Finally, concentration and a little luck was what the young KSM Schumacher Racing Team standardbearer had in Sweden where qualifying difficulties did not distract him even though the bad weather disrupted his plans as well as those of his most direct opponents. The final did not give any particular satisfaction to Kรถhler who, after the many penalties inflicted by the commissioners for incorrectly installed front fairing or incorrect position of front fairing, ended up in 14th place, which was just good enough to be discarded as worst result and irrelevant for the title race.

WORLD FIGURES
Both in KZ and KZ2, the names at the top of the entry list for nations, chassis and engines are the same: Italy, CRG, TM Racing. The latter, in particular, is definitely the undisputed leader when it comes to engines. It should be noted also, the presence of a DEA engine in KZ, (a well-known brand in the Superkart world, less so in sprintkart racing) and, above all, the 30 different chassis brands in KZ2.
