A year and 4 months later we are finally back to the place where it all began for the Formula Regional European Championship. An adventure that started on a weekend in mid-April, on a track that has recently returned to being part of the Formula 1 events calendar, the renewed and futuristic Paul Ricard circuit. It does seem a lot longer actually. On the one hand, because, to the organisers and promoters of a sport like that of motorsport which always gives you adrenaline and unexpected changes, a season always seems endless. Also, and above all however, and this is what ACI Sport and WSK Promotion care most about, because many of the drivers who started that race are now successfully continuing their climb to the top echelons of motorsport. And after the great start of the awaited 2020 season in Misano, with a lot of new talent ready to show everyone what they are made of, we are sure that the return of the Formula Regional to Le Castellet will not fail to give strong emotions to all the fans.

Dopo un anno e 4 mesi torniamo finalmente nel luogo dove tutto ha avuto inizio per il Formula Regional European Championship. Un’avventura che prese il via in un fine settimana di metà aprile, su una pista da poco tornata a far parte del calendario della Formula 1, il rinnovato e avveniristico circuito Paul Ricard. Sembra passato molto più tempo in realtà. Da un lato perché, agli organizzatori e ai promotori di una disciplina sportiva come quella del motorsport che offre sempre adrenalina e colpi di scena, una stagione sembra sempre infinita. Ma soprattutto, ed è quello che ad ACI Sport e WSK Promotion sta più a cuore, perché tanti dei piloti che erano al via in quella gara stanno ora proseguendo con successo la loro scalata verso la cima della piramide del mondo dei motori. E dopo l’avvio scoppiettante dell’attesa stagione 2020 a Misano, con tanti nuovi talenti pronti a mostrare a tutti di che pasta sono fatti, siamo sicuri che il ritorno della Formula Regional a Le Castellet non mancherà di regalare forti emozioni a tutti gli appassionati.

STATS ROUNDUP In light of the results of the first round of the 2020 Formula Regional European Championship in Misano, we can say that the new season has started in a balanced way. Three different winners, namely Oliver Rasmussen, Arthur Leclerc and Gianluca Petecof, and equally competitive drivers like Juri Vips and Patrick Pasma animated the three races on the Marco Simoncelli Misano World Circuit. In fact, the last time there was a weekend with a different winner for each race dates back to Imola in 2019, when a race that had been cancelled due to bad weather in Vallelunga was also run and 4 drivers won. On that occasion, Frederik Vesti, Olli Caldwell, Enzo Fittipaldi and Igor Fraga reached the first step of the podium. As for the Pole Position, however, there was a clear winner in Misano, as Arthur Leclerc left nothing to the competition. The Monegasque driver, in pole position for all three times, is the third driver to achieve this feat. Previously, last year, both Igor Fraga, in Monza, and Frederik Vesti, at the Hungaroring and Red Bull Ring succeeded in doing this. Alla luce dei risultati del primo round di Misano del Formula Regional European Championship 2020, possiamo dire che la nuova stagione sia partita all’insegna dell’equilibrio. Tre vincitori diversi, ovvero Oliver Rasmussen, Arthur Leclerc e Gianluca Petecof, e piloti altrettanto competitivi come Juri Vips e Patrick Pasma hanno animato le tre gare corse sul Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Per trovare un altro weekend con un vincitore diverso per ogni gara, infatti, bisogna tornare indietro a Imola 2019, quando venne recuperata anche la gara cancellata per maltempo a Vallelunga e vinsero quindi 4 piloti. In quell’occasione, a salire sul primo gradino del podio, furono Frederik Vesti, Olli Caldwell, Enzo Fittipaldi e Igor Fraga. Per quanto riguarda la Pole Position, invece, a Misano non c’è stata storia, dato che Arthur Leclerc non ha lasciato nemmeno le briciole alla concorrenza. Il monegasco, in pole per tutte e tre le volte, è il terzo pilota a centrare l’impresa. Ci sono riusciti in precedenza, l’anno scorso, sia Igor Fraga, a Monza, sia Frederik Vesti, all’Hungaroring e al Red Bull Ring.

TWO DAYS OF TESTS IN AUSTRIA Before arriving here at Le Castellet, the drivers of the Formula Regional European Championship took advantage of the three-week break between the first and second round for a twoday test on the Red Bull Ring track from 5 to 6 August, where the drivers of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth also took to the track. The best performance at the end of the first day, in which the drivers were able to test in wet conditions as well, was by Arthur Leclerc of Prema Powerteam, while Pierre Louis Chovet of Van Amersfort Racing achieved the best time on the second day. The “Stakanov prize” instead went to Konsta Lappalainen (KIC Motorsport) who was able to cover a total of 105 laps on the first day. In Spielberg, in addition to the drivers participating in round 1 in Misano, Facu Regalia with Van Amersfort Racing and Nico Gohler with Mücke Motorsport also raced on both days.

Prima di arrivare qui a Le Castellet, i piloti del Formula Regional European Championship hanno approfittato delle tre settimane di pausa tra il primo e il secondo round per una due giorni di test, dal 5 al 6 agosto, sul tracciato del Red Bull Ring, dove sono scesi in pista anche i piloti dell’Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth. Il migliore al termine della prima giornata, in cui i piloti hanno avuto modo di provare anche in condizioni di bagnato, è stato Arthur Leclerc di Prema Powerteam, mentre Pierre Louis Chovet di Van Amersfort Racing ha fatto registrare il miglior tempo della seconda giornata. Il “premio Stakanov” spetta invece a Konsta Lappalainen (KIC Motorsport) che nella prima giornata è stato in grado di mettere insieme un totale di 105 tornate. A Spielberg, oltre ai piloti già partecipanti al 1° round di Misano, hanno girato per entrambi i giorni anche Facu Regalia con Van Amersfort Racing e Nico Gohler con Mücke Motorsport.

When the lights went out in Race 1, Arthur Leclerc (Prema Powerteam) did not start very well from pole position, unlike his teammate Gianluca Petecof, who was immediately insidious. However, both the Monegasque and the Brazilian were involved in a pile up initiated by Juri Vips (KIC Motorsport) as early as the fourth bend. Leclerc had to retire, while Oliver Rasmussen (Prema Powerteam) took the lead in front of Patrick Pasma (KIC Motorsport). Vips and Petecof, on the other hand, had to follow the group led by the safety car. At the resumption, Vips made up ground decisively but finished off the track in an attempt to gain third position over Jamie Chadwick (Prema Powerteam) at the bend, causing the safety car to return. The safety Car was back on the track for a third time following a contact between Emidio Pesce (DR Formula RP Motorsport) and Gillian Henrion (Gillian Track Events GTE), which caused the latter to withdraw. On the last lap, Jamie Chadwick successfully defended his third place from Petecof, climbing onto the podium behind Rasmussen and Patrick Pasma.

Allo spegnersi delle luci di Gara 1, Arthur Leclerc (Prema Powerteam) non scatta benissimo dalla Pole, al contrario del compagno di squadra Gianluca Petecof, subito insidioso. Sia il monegasco sia il brasiliano, però, vengono coinvolti in una carambola innescata da Juri Vips (KIC Motorsport) già alla curva 4. Leclerc deve ritirarsi, mentre Oliver Rasmussen (Prema Powerteam) prende il comando della gara davanti a Patrick Pasma (KIC Motorsport). Vips e Petecof, invece, devono accodarsi al gruppo guidato dalla safety car. Alla ripresa, Vips recupera terreno con decisione, ma finisce fuori pista nel tentativo di guadagnare la terza posizione su Jamie Chadwick (Prema Powerteam) al curvone, causando il ritorno della Safety Car. Safety Car che si ripresenterà in pista una terza volta in seguito al contatto tra Emidio Pesce (DR Formula RP Motorsport) e Gillian Henrion (Gillian Track Events GTE), che causerà il ritiro di quest’ultimo. Nell’ultimo giro, Jamie Chadwick difende con successo il terzo posto da Petecof, salendo sul podio dietro Rasmussen e Patrick Pasma.

In race 2, the pole sitter Arthur Leclerc (Prema Powerteam) made no mistakes at the start and stayed in first position ahead of Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam) and Oliver Rasmussen (Prema Powerteam), who managed to overtake Juri Vips (KIC Motorsport), who had a bad start from second position. Jamie Chadwick (Prema Powerteam) instead sprinted well, jumping from seventh to fifth, overtaking Patrick Pasma (KIC Motorsport) and Pierre Louis Chovet (Van Amersfort Racing). Petecof didn’t seem to be good enough to undermine Leclerc, while Rasmussen initially had to watch out for Juri Vips. As the laps continued, the gaps between the top four begin to widen, while Jamie Chadwick resisted the pressure of Patrick Pasma for 15 laps before giving way to Chovet and Konsta Lappalainen (KIC Motorsport) as well as to him. In the end, Leclerc beat Petecof and Rasmussen while Vips, struggling in the last part, slipped to sixth position behind Pasma and Chovet.

In the last race of the weekend, it was once again Arthur Leclerc (Prema Powerteam) who started in first position. However, it was Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam), second on the grid, who took the first bend in the lead, while Oliver Rasmussen (Prema Powerteam) took third place just ahead of Juri Vips (KIC Motorsport). From that point on, two pairs formed at the head of the race: Petecof was closely marked by Leclerc with Rasmussen and Vips behind him fighting for third place. In fifth position, Patrick Pasma (KIC Motorsport) was followed by Jamie Chadwick (Prema Powerteam), who was often forced to watch his back from the attacks of Pierre Louis Chovet (Van Amersfort Racing). Further back, Emidio Pesce (DR Formula RP Motorsport) and Konsta Lappalainen (KIC Motorsport) touched each other, both ending up withdrawing from the race, while both Leclerc and Chovet made a mistake coming out of the last bend, ending up on the grass and losing precious tenths to their opponents. This is how Petecof won the race, ahead of Leclerc and Rasmussen.

Ma è Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam), secondo in griglia, a girare per primo alla prima curva, mentre Oliver Rasmussen (Prema Powerteam) soffia il terzo posto a Juri Vips (KIC Motorsport). Da quel punto in poi, in testa alla gara si formano due coppie: Petecof è marcato stretto da Leclerc con dietro Rasmussen e Vips a battagliare per il terzo posto. In quinta posizione, Patrick Pasma (KIC Motorsport) è seguito da Jamie Chadwick (Prema Powerteam), costretta a guardarsi spesso le spalle dagli attacchi di Pierre Louis Chovet (Van Amersfort Racing). Più indietro, Emidio Pesce (DR Formula RP Motorsport) e Konsta Lappalainen (KIC Motorsport) si toccano, finendo entrambi per ritirarsi, mentre sia Leclerc sia Chovet commettono un errore in uscita dall’ultima curva, finendo nell’erba e perdendo decimi preziosi dai loro avversari. The FIA European Regional Championship driver’s title will be awarded to the driver who has scored the highest number of points, taking into consideration all the results obtained during the Events which have actually taken place.

The FIA European Regional Championship best Rookie title will be awarded to the driver who has scored the highest number of points, taking into consideration all the results obtained during the Events which have actually taken place. Driver will not be eligible for this title if, the year before the FIA European Regional Championship Event he takes part in, he had competed in more than three race Events in the FIA Formula Regional either with cars with the same performance level or higher than that of a Formula Regional car. Drivers will be considered eligible for this title at the absolute discretion of the Promoter.

To participate to the Final Classification of the Championship, every driver must compete in 5 events at least. The last event must be compulsorily included in the 5 events.
25 points for the FIA Super Licence. No other category in the same level offers so many points!
