The Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth and the Formula Regional European Championship cross their paths again, just in time for the final rush of both championships. We are pleased that the race for the titles, where anything can still happen, as the last few races have taught us, will restart from the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. A place engrained in the history of motorsport and which recently, with the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna, also returned to being the present-day protagonist. Moreover, it has been acclaimed by everyone for its atmosphere and highly spectacular layout. Nothing new for ACI Sport and WSK Promotion, which, from the very beginning of their adventure with single-seaters, immediately saw the Imola circuit as a perfect stage for all the young talent that will write other pages in the history of motorsport in the near future. However, for now, let us enjoy the last two events of this 2020: rest assured, it will be fun!

FORMULA REGIONAL: PREMA POWERTEAM IS THE 2020 CHAMPION The 2020 edition of the Formula Regional European Championship finally awards the first title of the season, the champion of the classifications reserved for the teams. To win it, with two rounds to spare, is the Prema Powerteam, which was verified again after the first place obtained last year. The mathematical victory came after the two successes obtained by Oliver Rasmussen during the weekend in Barcelona, added to the podium finishes of Arthur Leclerc and Gianluca Petecof. In the championship reserved for the teams, the battle is now open for the second place. A battle reignited during the last few events which sees the Van Amersfoort Racing and KIC Motorsport teams in competition, separated in the standings by just 53 points but with still 6 races to go.

2

WHO ARE THE DRIVERS AT THE START OF THE FR CHAMPIONSHIP

Third appointment in the calendar dedicated to the drivers at the start of the Formula Regional European Championship. The protagonists of this event all have one thing in common, as they all started their journey in a single seater in the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth.

Emidio Pesce learned the ropes in the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth, where he raced the whole 2019 season, the year of his debut in a single seater. To continue his path in Formula Regional was a natural choice and he made his first appearance in this series with the team led by kart legend Danilo Rossi.

After having raced in karting in his native country, in the United States and in Europe, in 2018 Gianluca joined the Prema Powerteam with which he raced the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth for two consecutive years, finishing second in 2019. Currently, he is in the lead of the Formula Regional European Championship.

At the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, Francesco Pizzi (Van Amersfoort Racing) and Gabriele Minì (Prema Powerteam) staged a memorable duel. The battle to win race 1, which lit up right from the start and involved continuous exchanges of positions, was only interrupted by the safety car, due to Lorenzo Patrese (AKM Motorsport) going off the track and, subsequently, following the contact between Dino Beganovic (Prema Powerteam) and Pietro Delli Guanti (BVM Racing), which cost the Italian a withdrawal. In the last restart, Minì snatched second place, in the meantime occupied by Andrea Rosso (Cram Motorsport), and finally managed to cross the finish line in front of Pizzi by only 0.015 seconds, overtaking him on the outside of the Parabolica. However, the overtaking was considered irregular by the stewards, who inflicted a 5-second penalty on Minì for having exceeded the limits of the track. Pizzi then won, ahead of Rosso, second in the photo finish in front of Filip Ugran (Jenzer Motorsport).

Francesco Pizzi (Van Amersfoort Racing) also won race 2 at Monza, engaging in another battle with championship leader Gabriele Minì (Prema Powerteam). When the traffic lights went out, Minì took the lead from the first bend, but Pizzi took it back before the end of the first lap. The two then swapped positions again before the safety car entered, made necessary following an accident between Hamda Al Qubaisi (Abu Dhabi Racing) and Han Cenyu (Van Amersfoort Racing). At the restart, Minì attacked Pizzi from the outside, but the attempt failed, leaving a gap open for Sebastian Montoya (Prema Powerteam). The Italian then returned to second place on the last lap, trying to put pressure on Pizzi in every way possible, before having to settle for second position. Third place for Gabriel Bortoleto (Prema Powerteam), protagonist of a wheel to wheel with Montoya on the first bend, with the Colombian finishing eighth. However, poleman Andrea Rosso (Cram Motorsport) did not start, stopped by a technical problem during the formation lap.

After two unlucky retirements in the previous two races of the weekend, Pietro Delli Guanti (BVM Racing) achieved his first victory in the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth. Race 3, however, lost two protagonists as early as the third lap, when the two leaders Gabriele Minì (Prema Powerteam) and Andrea Rosso (Cram Motorsport) eliminated themselves at the first bend, leaving Francesco Pizzi (Van Amersfoort Racing) in first place. Delli Guanti, who started from third position, first overtook Leonardo Fornaroli (Iron Lynx), then set off in pursuit of the leader, successfully attacking him on lap 12 at the exit of the Parabolica. At the end, a rampant Gabriel Bortoleto (Prema Powerteam) came very close to spoiling Delli Guanti’s success. Having started in 22nd position, the Brazilian was second at the finish, not far behind the BVM Racing driver whose car started emitting smoke during the last lap. Third place went to Fornaroli, who overtook Pizzi at the very last bend and achieved his first podium in the championship.

The twist that heavily influenced the result of Race 1 came at the end of the traffic lights: poleman Pierre-Louis Chovet (Van Amersfoort Racing) sensationally stalled at the starting box, while his teammate, the rookie in the Formula Regional European Championship Dennis Hauger, also had a lackluster start. The two Prema Powerteam drivers, Oliver Rasmussen and Arthur Leclerc, took advantage of this situation, in the lead in front of Hauger, who managed to limit the damage, Patrik Pasma (KIC Motorsport) and Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam), seventh on the grid. Halfway through the race, Rasmussen began to clock a series of fast laps that allowed him to cross the finish line first by a margin of more than one second in front of Leclerc, eventually coming second ahead of Hauger. At the end, Konsta Lappalainen (KIC Motorsport) managed to defend his sixth position from the assault of Chovet, who recovered to reach seventh position after being able to restart the car.

Again in race 2, Oliver Rasmussen (Prema Powerteam), third on the grid, had an excellent start that allowed him to overtake as early as the first bend in front of Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing), who started from first position, and Arthur Leclerc (Prema Powerteam). Initially detached, Leclerc was also the protagonist of a very close duel with his teammate and rival in the fight for the title, Gianluca Petecof, with the Brazilian ending up in the gravel and returning to the track in ninth position. However, the driver from Monaco failed to stay in third place, having to give way first to Pierre-Louis Chovet (Van Amersfoort Racing), also on this occasion not perfect when the race started, and, right on the last lap, to Patrik Pasma (KIC Motorsport). Matteo Nannini, who returned to Formula Regional with Monolite Racing to replace Andrea Cola, finally finished eighth behind Gillian Henrion (Gillian Track Events GTE) after also having reached fifth position.

Pierre-Louis Chovet (Van Amersfoort Racing) made no mistake this time from the front row and won his first victory in the Formula Regional European Championship at the end of a perfect race. Once again, the starting phase was decisive, with poleman Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing) immediately threatened by Chovet and Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam). The Frenchman managed to take the lead by overtaking his teammate on lap 1 and then used his pace to reach the finish line with an advantage of over 4 seconds. Hauger, on the other hand, managed to stay in second position in front of Petecof who came third at the finish, even though he was more than 5 seconds behind Hauger. Behind him came teammates Arthur Leclerc and Oliver Rasmussen. The latter managed to snatch sixth position from an excellent Matteo Nannini (Monolite Racing) 5 laps from the end.
