After the midway mark at the Mugello, here we are at the first race after summer break in Adria. The Adria International Raceway is a modern venue, where each bend has its special radius, keeping competitors engaged with a variety of driving techniques. In addition, the structure also includes a nice karting track. So the young talents of the F.4 are sure to feel at “home” here, since they all come from the fundamental ranks of karting. In terms of the 2015 title hunt, F.4 drivers have now faced four out seven events on schedule, which means a total of 12 races down and 9 more to go. With 213 points still up for grabs, the championship is still incredibly open to any outcome, considering that the provisional leader only has 207 points to his name. The scenario is interesting also in the Woman Trophy, with the Pankiewicz twins standing just one point apart.

REPORT - RACE 1

ARON THE DOMINATOR

Al settimo posto troviamo Bar Baruch (Israel F4) e all’ottavo posto Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport).

Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth

After securing a double pole position, in Race 1 Ralf Aron (Prema Powerteam) is first off grid, followed by a very fast David Beckmann (Mücke Motorsport). Behind them, Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport) dashes from fourth on grid and gets ahead of Mauricio Baiz (Vincenzo Sospiri Racing) at the start. From here, Vieira manages to move up to second by the San Donato on lap 1, as Beckmann slides behind and starts losing speed. Over the first few laps, Aron does one fast lap after the other, even if with lower gaps from his chasers compared to the qualifyings. As the race continues, the Estonian picks up the pace even more and seems to be in a class of his own as he pulls away, leaving Vieira and Beckmann to chase after him. Behind them, it is Giuliano Raucci (Prema Powerteam) who settles into fourth place, after a pass on Baiz on lap 5, finally delivering a concrete and effective performance. The rest of the group follows in compact formation, led by Baiz and a struggling Guan Yu Zhou (Prema Powerteam), unable to get ahead, despite repeated attempts. Bar Baruch (Israel F4) follows seventh and Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport) eighth.

Robert Shwartzman (Mücke Motorsport) does a nice recovery, after the penalty incurred in the qualifyings (for non-compliance with the minimum weight limit) that had relegated him to the last spot on grid at the go. At the end of the race, Aron seals his authoritative victory ahead of Vieira and Beckmann and also grabs an extra point for setting the best lap, precisely on the final lap, stopping the clock at 1’48.173. The second best lap is by Beckmann, 1’48.649, who also pulled away in the end. Vieira is the third fastest, with a personal best lap of 1’48.744. The top speeds at the end of the straight, instead, are scored by Baruch, 235,2 km/h, and the duo of Raul Guzman (Malta Formula Racing) and Lando Norris (Mücke Motorsport), both at 233,7 km/h. In the Woman Trophy the “family duel” between the Pankiewicz twins (RB Racing) sees Wiktoria win over Julia, but with very close lap times.

SIEBERT MAKES THE BEST OF IT

6

As always, the sprint race features the inversion on grid of the top ten drivers of Race 1: an excellent chance for Raul Guzman (Malta Formula Racing) who gets to start from pole position, followed by Diego Bertonelli (RB Racing), Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport), Bar Baruch (Israel F4), Guan Yu Zhou (Prema Powerteam) and Mauricio Baiz (Vincenzo Sospiri Racing). Instead, it is Bertonelli who pounces into first place at the start, while Guzman slides to fourth. Baruch also does a fast leap from fourth to second, with Siebert behind; but, at the first corner, the two trade places, as Siebert gets ahead and sets off on his chase after Bertonelli. Over the first laps, the Argentinian has a quicker pace than the Italian leader and narrows the gap. Bertonelli defends in spectacular fashion until lap 7, when Siebert achieves the decisive overtake for victory. At the finish line, he is followed by Guzman, on the rebound with two nice passes over Baruch and then Bertonelli. In the one-on-one challenge of the Woman Trophy, Wiktoria Pankiewicz wins by less than 1 second over her sister Julia (both RB Racing).

RALF ARON DOES IT AGAIN

10

Ralf Aron (Prema Powerteam) once again manages to take advantage of pole position, the second one obtained in qualifying practice, to conquer victory. The Estonian dashes off grid with some uncertainty, then at the San Donato is flanked by David Beckmann (Mücke Motorsport). On corner two, however, the latter is on the inside and can’t find the room he needs to overtake. From then on, Aron repeats the triumphant charge he achieved in Race 1, with an impressive pace that nobody nears, except for Beckmann, who will close the race in second place, at a gap of over 5 seconds. The final standings are also shuffled by the drive through penalties assigned to 12 drivers, for failure to respect the yellow flags exposed after Riccardo Ponzio (Teramo Racing Team) and Fernando Madera (Team Costarica) went flying off track. In between there were Prema Powerteam mates Giuliano Raucci and Guan Yu Zhou, respectively third and fourth until lap twelve. At the end, it is Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport) who crosses the line third, but with a gap of almost 17 seconds. Behind him, the distance gets even wider, with fourth place finisher Nico

Taking advantage of rivals’ penalties, Diego Bertonelli (RB Racing) manages to rise up several position and gets to wrap up the Top 5. Aron is without rivals also in the fast lap rankings, with 1’47.628. The second best lap, 1’47.849, is by Lando Norris (Mücke Motorsport), sadly only eighth at the finish, while the third is by Beckmann, 1’47.997. Once again, though, the fastest on track aren’t necessarily those who reach the top speeds. In terms of peak velocity, honors go to Lucas Mauron (Jenzer Motorsport) and Kevin Kanayet (Malta Formula Racing), both at 233.7 km/h, followed by Raul Guzman (Malta Formula Racing) and Norris, both at 232.7 km/h. In the Woman Trophy, this time Julia prevails over her sister (both RB Racing), but in the title hunt Wiktoria leads, even if by a mere point. In the championship, Aron commands (207 points), followed by Zhou (156), Beckman (101), Vieira (79), Shwartzman (78) and Baruch (72).

Ralf Aron (Prema Powerteam) has a clear advantage over his teammate Guan Yu Zhou: ahead by 51 points. Following, with a 106 point gap from the top, there is a very strong David Beckmann (Mücke Motorsport), able to keep at bay the chasers. Yet, with 213 points still up for grabs, the 2015 championship is still open. The current round in Adria and the two to follow will prove who has the pace and maturity to conquer the title. The Adria track demands great technical versatility and Misano, as we all know, is a “temple of speed”. In between there is the return to Imola, where Aron has already claimed two authoritative wins, but there is always the unpredictability factor of Race 2 with inverted grid. In addition, Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport), Robert Shwartzman (Mücke Motorsport), Bar Baruch (Israel F4) and Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport) all have excellent results under their belt. The quality of the Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth and its regulations (with points assigned for the final results and best lap in the three races, plus the qualifying pole position) keeps bets running until the end.

race 2

race 3
