EDITORIAL Imola. Ancora lei.

Imola. Her again. With that name that recalls legendary pages of motorsport history and those bends that invite drivers to unleash their full talent... The F4 has already paid homage to the temple of speed named after Enzo and Dino Ferrari for the third round of the championship. Today, three months later, we are back here, facing a scenario that is a bit more certain for some, but also with fewer chances left to earn points for the ultimate victory. This is why anticipation for the weekend’s races is running higher than ever: the championship finish line is in sight and every single victory, like every single wrong move, becomes more and more important. And Imola is a circuit that doesn’t allow for lies. So, drop your masks, let your engines blare and, as always, may the best man win...

Already home to the third championship round back in June, the Imola raceway re-opens its gates for the penultimate battle in the 2015 title hunt. F4 drivers have already had a chance to face its bends and straights, but this track is always tough to interpret, at the same time fast and highly technical, requiring a sustained pace and deep concentration throughout.

REPORT - RACE 1

BECKMANN WINS WITH BEST LAP

Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth

David Beckmann (Mücke Motorsport) starts from pole position and hammers away a nice gap from the group. Championship leader Ralf Aron (Prema Powerteam) chases after him, but loses a couple of tenths each lap. Third in tow there is his teammate Guan Yu Zhou, who seems to have forgotten the engine problems of the previous two rounds. After the first bends, the race “stops” because of two accidents: one between Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport) and Giuliano Raucci (Prema Powerteam) and the other between Diego Bertonelli (RB Racing) and Bar Baruch (Israel F4). After the safety car leaves the track and the action resumes, Beckmann is still in the lead and flies away to win, setting the best lap. Behind him, Yu Zhou catches up to Aron and passes him: the two teammates close second and third. Robert Schwartzman (Mücke Motorsport) and Nico Rindlisbacher (Jenzer Motorsport) follow fourth and fifth, well ahead of the rest of the group. In the Woman Trophy, by now a “family affair” between the Pankiewicz twins (RB Racing), Julia ends ahead of Wiktoria.

SHWARTZMAN WINS ON THE RISE

6

Race 2 brings new faces on the podium, also thanks to the inversion on grid of the top ten drivers of Race 1. Kevin Kanayet (Malta Formula Racing) immediately dashes from pole position and sets the pace until mid-race. At this point it is Mauricio Baiz (Vincenzo Sospiri Racing) who takes command, completing the skillfull pull away from the group that he built thus far, taking advantage of the fierce battle behind him. The Venezuelan’s leadership is short lived, as he gets replaced by a fierce Robert Shwartzman (Mücke Motorsport), on the rebound from seventh on grid with a bent front flap. After his overtake, the Russian flies off to win, followed at the finish-line by Marino Sato (Vincenzo Sospiri Racing) and Baiz, third. Fourth behind them there is David Beckmann (Mücke Motorsport), again very fast, on the rise from tenth and author of a spectacular pass over Ralf Aron (Prema Powerteam) at the end. The Pankiewicz sisters (RB Racing), in contention for the Woman Trophy, instead, are unable to finish the race because of contacts with rivals.

SHWARTZMAN AGAIN

10

Robert Shwartzman (Mücke Motorsport) takes advantage of the pole position conquered in qualifying and dashes into the lead, pulls away at a stunning pace, and takes another great win. The one who earns the vanguard of the chasing group is Ralf Aron (Prema Powerteam); but, despite his relentless chase, he never manages to bridge the gap from the runaway leader. Though at a distance, Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport) follows in third until a few minutes from the end. This is when Guan Yu Zhou (Prema Powerteam), fourth since the early stages, picks up the pace, catches up to him, overtakes and conquers the third step of the podium. The Brazilian drops as far back as twelfth. David Beckmann (Mücke Motorsport) also does a strong final dash and crosses the line fourth, but then is sent down to fifth behind Giuliano Raucci (Prema Powerteam) due to a contact penalty and has to make do with scoring the best lap of the race, beating to the clock his race winning teammate. In the Woman Trophy, Julia Pankiewicz again closes ahead of sister Wiktoria (both RB Racing).

Vieira scivola fino a dodicesimo.

The Adria round opened back up all bets on the final championship outcome. Ralf Aron (Prema Powerteam) has increased his advantage on teammate Guan Yu Zhou from 51 to 55 points. The one who bridged the gap, instead, is ultra-fast David Beckmann (Mücke Motorsport), who - thanks to his overall pole, Race 1 victory, and two best laps (Race 1 and 3) - is now just 95 points from the top. The other great leap forward that shuffled the values at play is the one achieved by Robert Shwartzman (Mücke Motorsport), whose double race victory (Race 2 and 3) and best lap have taken him from sixth to fourth and just 20 points from Beckmann. Joao Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport), instead, is now fifth and just 1 point ahead of Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport), who has caught up to him. With 142 points still up for grabs, between this weekend’s return-round in Imola and the final act in Misano in early October, anything can still happen. Thrills until the end, then, for the 2015 edition of the Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth.

Emozione fino all’ultimo, dunque, nell’edizione 2015 dell’Italian F.4 Championship Powered by Abarth.
