EDITORIAL There was great enthusiasm at the start of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth at Misano: lots of drivers on the track; all four weekend races provided an intense spectacle; considerable media coverage guaranteed by television coverage and the attendance of the most important Italian and international newspapers. We all hope to repeat this success at Adria, a circuit that we have come to know and appreciate in recent years. We are only at the beginning of the journey, but the desire to shine already burns brightly and, with some needing to replicate the positive performances of the first round and others already impatient to take revenge, there is little doubt that this next event will also deliver spurts of adrenaline and intense excitement. To experience the present at “full throttle” and face the future with enthusiasm.

CONTENTS

5 QUESTIONS TO… A few brief questions to get to know more about the protagonists of the Italian F.4 Championship powerd by Abarth. Let’s start with the Japanese driver, Sato, who races for Vincenzo Sospiri, and Rodriguez, who races for DRZ Benelli

MARINO SATO

1.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COMPETE IN THE ITALIAN F.4 CHAMPIONSHIP? PERCHÉ HAI SCELTO DI CORRERE NELL’ITALIAN F.4 CHAMPIONSHIP?

This to me seems like the best route to becoming a professional racing driver.

2. Vincenzo Sospiri Racing

3.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT THE F.4 SINGLE-SEATER? COSA TI PIACE DI PIÙ DELLA MONOPOSTO DI F.4?

The concept of a low cost Formula is really nice as it gives drivers coming from karting a chance to start their single seater careers for a reasonable price.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU ENCOUNTERED WHEN CHANGING FROM KARTS TO SINGLE-SEATERS? QUAL È LA DIFFICOLTÀ PIÙ GRANDE CHE HAI INCONTRATO NEL PASSAGGIO KART/MONOPOSTO?

4.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM AS A DRIVER? QUAL È IL TUO SOGNO COME PILOTA?

For me getting used to the size of the car was the hardest thing, especially in close racing when you have other cars around you and the field is packed up.

I would really like to be a driver who entertains the fans.

5.

WHICH 2016 ITALIAN F.4 CIRCUIT HAVE YOU ALWAYS DREAMED OF RACING AT? QUAL È LA PISTA DELL’ITALIAN F.4 2016 SULLA QUALE HAI SEMPRE SOGNATO DI GAREGGIARE?

I raced at them all last year. Italy has a lot of nice tracks. Monza always produces good races with the slip-streaming and Imola is a really good circuit.

Ho corso su tutti i tracciati già l’anno scorso.

1.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT THE F.4 SINGLE-SEATER? COSA TI PIACE DI PIÙ DELLA MONOPOSTO DI F.4?

The gearchange, which is like the one used in F1.

2.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU ENCOUNTERED WHEN CHANGING FROM KARTS TO SINGLE-SEATERS? QUAL È LA DIFFICOLTÀ PIÙ GRANDE CHE HAI INCONTRATO NEL PASSAGGIO KART/MONOPOSTO?

The biggest challenge was getting used to the braking.

3.

WHO IS THE DRIVER YOU MOST ADMIRE, YOUR IDOL? CHI È IL PILOTA CHE AMMIRI DI PIÙ, IL TUO MITO?

Myself.

4.

HOW DO YOU KEEP FIT? COME TI TIENI IN FORMA?

Gym, both here in Italy and when I’m at home in Guatemala.

5.

DRZ Benelli ASD

DO YOU HAVE ANY LUCKY CHARMS? HAI QUALCHE PORTAFORTUNA?

Giovanni Delfino, manager of Autotecnica, the entity that manages the Italian F.4 Championship engines, explains how the standard Abarth engine on the 500 changes on the F.4 single-seater.

The internal mechanics of the F.4 engine are identical to the standard version. Per In order to adapt it to the weights and lines of a formula class, however, it is adattarlo ai pesi e le linee di una formula, però, chiaramente si lavora obvious that work has to be done on the installation. sull’installazione. The lubrication system: the oil pan on the 500 disappears, replaced by a dry sump and recovery pumps. The oil reservoir is positioned in a kind of spacer between the gearbox and the engine. The engine support also changes: it is not dampened as in the road-going cars, but stiff and directly attached to the monocoque. However, in addition to the mechanics, the aspiration is unchanged, with the exception of the air inlet located above the driver’s head, as well as the turbocharger, which only differs in the exhaust area, which is very short and, obviously, without the catalysts and silencers present on production cars. The F.4 engine has 160 HP, which is actually lower than the road-going version. Logically, however, since it is mounted on a single-seater weighing 400 Kg, the “final package” produces a decidedly different level of performance.

RACE A-B

SCHUMACHER TOOK THE FIRST W

After recording the second quickest time in qualifying, Mick Schumacher (Prema Power Team) took the first win of the new season by coming first in Race A-B at Misano. The young German made a brilliant start off the line and immediately started attacking the poleman Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport). The decisive move for victory eventually came on the fourth lap and from this moment the German held the race lead to the chequered flag. From grid 7, Raul Guzman (DR Formula) put in a great perfomance the entire race. Not only did he set the fastest lap of the race, but stormed to finish in second position. A great third place for the debutant Ivan Correa (Prema Power Team), the first driver in the Rookie Trophy demonstrated that he has the speed, just needing to improve his consistency. Speaking of the debutants, credit must be given to Simone Cunati (Vincenzo Sospiri Racing), who finished second in the Rookie Trophy after starting back on grid 11. Fifth place was the Jenzer Motorsport driver, who started out of pole position. Marcos Siebert dropping down the order from his top grid spot in this opening race.

RACE B-C

SCHUMACHER AGAIN

It was once again Schumacher (Prema Power Team) first past the finish line of Race B – C. Starting in pole position, the German driver was first from start to finish, managing the advantage despite the critical conditions early in the race. A great comeback by Dutchman Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport), who slipped to 12th place under the Safety Car rules due to a spin while warming up his tyres, but was able to snatch second place. He also achieved the fastest lap. Third place went to Diego Bertonelli (RB Racing). Newcomer Juan Correa (Prema Power team) came fourth, with Frenchman Valentin Hasse Clot (Kiteviola Motorsport) behind him. After a comeback, the very fast Mauricio Baiz (Kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) came sixth. He started in tenth place, then slipped to 12th, only to then make his comeback. Speaking of comebacks, the most glaring was that of Diego Ciantini (Jenzer Motorsport), who gained 13 places, from 23rd to 10th. The Rookie Trophy was won again by Correa, ahead of Fabio Scherer (Jenzer Motorsport) and Lorenzo Colombo (BVM Racing). The Woman Trophy was won by Fabienne Wohlwend (Aragon Racing). The race was run on wet tyres by all the drivers, even if the track dried fast, since the storm began just before the start and ended after a few minutes.

RACE A-C

GUZMAN, AFTER A GREAT COMEB

At the start, a crash, and the subsequent red flag, involved several drivers: Diego Bertonelli (RB Racing), Ye Yifei (Kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport), Leonard Hogenboom (Cram Motorsport) and Aaron di Comberti (Bhaitech Engineering) did not restart. After the goahead was given for a restart, Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport) immediately gained quite a competitive lead over his rivals: 3 seconds in three rounds over his teammate Van Uitert. From the seventh starting position, a very determined Raul Guzman (DR Formula) was able to move into third place already by lap three. A good tussle involved Valentin Hasse Clot (Kiteviola Motorsport) who defended his sixth place, although in the end he finished 18th. Shlom (4th), Vips (5th) and Baiz (6th) were among those who overtook him. However, the battle heated up for the top positions: Guzman overtook Van Uitert on the eighth lap and started a real battle with Siebert. At the end of the twelfth round, Guzman took the lead and stayed there until the end. Juri Vips (Prema Power Team), in fifth place overall, was first in the Rookie Trophy, followed by Altoè (Bhaitech Engineering), in seventh place overall, and Rodriguez (DRZ Benelli), who finished eighth. Wohlwende (Aragon Racing) won the Woman Trophy.

FINAL RACE

SIEBERT WINS THE LAST RACE IN

The Final Race was a real battle. The winner was Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport), who took the lead on lap 7 and stayed there until the finish line. Behind him was the newcomer Juri Vips (Prema Powerteam) who once again won the Rookie Trophy (followed by Maini and Giacomo Altoè). In third place was Guzman (DR Racing), who also has led the race for six laps. Kush Maini (BVM Racing), who made a great comeback from 14th place at the start, managed to come fourth, but due to a penalty after the chequered flag became 8th. So Mick Schumacher (Prema Power Team), who started in pole position but had problems at the start and found himself in 17th place, recovered to finish fourth. He also achieved the fastest lap. Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport) came fifth, followed by Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport), Hasse Clot (Kiteviola Motorsport), Maini (BVM Racing), Iribarne (Torino Squadra Corse) and De Francesco (Kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport). It’s a shame there was a contact between Simone Cunati (Vincenzo Sospiri Racing) and Juan Correa (Prema Power Team): they were battling for first place but they both had to retire after the crash.

Quinto è giunto Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport), davanti a Vieira (Antonelli Motorsport), Hasse Clot (Kiteviola Motorsport), Maini (BVM Racing), Iribarne (Torino Squadra Corse) e De Francesco (Kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport).
