Eccoci a Monza!
Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth
So here we are in Monza once again! We have arrived at the days marked in red on the calendar since the presentation of the 2017 edition of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth. Here we are at the decisive moment, the one where we put all our remaining energy on the track, knowing that there will be no further chance to do any more. Not this year, at least, since this race in the beautiful setting of the Autodromo nazionale Monza is the last race of the season. There could be no more prestigious or symbolic place than this to finish a splendid year of racing: here, where the history of motorsport has been made, where Formula One champions compete every year, and where the 2017 champion will be crowned, which is once again uncertain until the last gasp. The victory trophy will end up in the hands of a single driver, but everyone, without exception, will remember the many moments, events and emotions of an intense and wonderful year. The time for a toast, a handshake... and it will once again be time to start moving towards the next goals.

FERNANDEZ: FROM THE POLE, TO THE WIN
marcus armstrong (prema power team)
sebastian fernandez (bhaitech)
When the red lights went out, it was the polesitter Fernandez (Bhaitech), who got away well, however, an even better start from second position for Armstrong (Prema Power Team), who looked immediately to attack. From that moment though, Fernandez found the rhythm that no other driver could match and he pulled away to win. Third was Colombo (Bhaitech), who in the final stages looked to mount an attack on Armstrong, but, by his own admission, was not able to take advantage of the slipstream. Bhaitech were there again to take fourth position with the italian rookie Leonardo Lorandi, fifth another rookie, the Brazilian Fittipaldi (Prema Power Team). Follow Artem Petrov (DR Formula), Lirim Zendeli (BWT Mücke Motorsport) and Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport), who did lose precious points in the championship to the leader Armstrong. In the Rookie Trophy, behind Lorandi and Fittipaldi were Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport), Branquinho (DR Formula) and Tom Beckhauser (Cram Motorsport).

lorenzo colombo (bhaitech)

ARMSTRONG TAKES A STEP TOWARDS THE TITLE
marcus armstrong (prema power team)
At the start of Race 2 the New Zealander Marcus Armstrong (Prema Power Team) got away into the lead without hesitating. Behind him the Dutch Job Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport), who held second place right to the end, meanwhile the contenders for the title, Lorenzo Colombo (Bhaitech), in the fight for the first corner finds himself forced out which introduces the Safety Car. As the race resumed, Armstrong immediately builds up a race pace that no one else can match. Lorandi (Bhaitech) tries to attack Van Uitert during the first half of the race until he has to contend with the arrival of the Indian driver Kush Maini (Jenzer Motorsport), who in the final two laps was immediately behind. The Italian ultimately maintained the position followed by Maini and then the Guatemalan Ian Rodriguez (DRZ Benelli). Behind, remarkable debut in the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth for the Austrian Lukas Dunner (Prema Power Team), ended in ninth position. In the Rookie Trophy Lorandi wins ahead of Fittipaldi (Prema Power Team) and Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport).

Dietro, da segnalare il nono posto dell’austriaco Lukas Dunner (Prema Power Team) all’esordio nell’Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth. Tra i Rookie, vince Lorandi davanti a Fittipaldi (Prema Power Team) e Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport).

DOUBLE WIN FOR FERNANDEZ AT MUGELLO
6
sebastian fernandez (bhaitech)
Under cloudy skies and with the temperature at around 18°C, at the start it’s again Armstrong (Prema Power Team) to get away well from pole position, followed by Job Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport) and Leonardo Lorandi (Bhaitech), who was soon overtaken by his team mate Fernandez. On the fourth lap Ian Rodriguez (DRZ Benelli) left the circuit which brought the introduction of the Safety Car. When racing resumed, Fernandez got by Van Uitert who was then penalised with a Drive-through penalty because of a jumped start: a critical factor in the championship. On lap 8, Fernandez passed also Armstrong going on to hold the lead and taking the win. The battle for the podium was still going however, as Petrov (DR Formula) came from ninth place to second finishing in that position despite a 5 second penalty added to his overall race time. Third place on the podium, with the championship now in sight, for Armstrong. Fourth position for Lorandi, followed by Fittipaldi (Prema Power Team) and Festante (DR Formula). Third win of the weekend for Lorandi in the Rookie Trophy, always followed by Fittipaldi (Prema Power Team) and Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport).

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SIMULATOR Improving technology, on the one hand, and reducing tests out on the track, on the other, have rendered simulators increasingly important over the last few years. SkyDrive, a young company founded in 2015, is well aware of this, targeting the area with particular focus on the F.4 scene, a class for drivers at a crucial age in terms of growth and maturity. At Monza, where Skydrive’s main simulator is located, Cristiano Giardina, the team manager and CEO of the company, drivers Lorenzo Colombo and Alessio Rovera and track engineer Roberto Hernandez Garcia are the protagonists of a workshop (for reservation: info@avehil.com) in which they explain the benefits that continuous use of the simulator can provide, both in preparing races and conveying technical concepts to drivers that will prove crucial to their future behind the wheel.

CHAMPIONSHIP CIRCUIT Opened in 1922, Monza is one of the oldest permanent autodromes in the world: only Indianapolis, among those still in use, can boast more years of service. Another first for the Monza track is that of fastest track in the Formula 1 World Championship, which has been held here since 1950. The track is 5,245 metres long, it has a width ranging from 10 to 12 metres and a total of 11 bends. As we have said,
this is a very fast circuit, and testimony to this is the average hourly rate of 262.24 km/h achieved by the driver Juan Pablo Montoya in 2004 during a practice lap. Also, the highest average speed per lap ever achieved in an official F1 racing weekend happened here. Last year, again on the occasion of the last F.4 race of the season, Fernandez achieved an average of 185.1 km/h in the second qualifying round.
