Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth
Only two weekends remain in the beautiful adventure that was this year’s Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth. Two rendezvous when drivers will once again be called upon to give their all, some trying to earn the necessary points for a victory to remember, others to take advantage of the last opportunities to leave their mark on this season. Many are the moments already etched into the memory of all the protagonists of this exciting journey; many the duels fought fiercely but fairly; many the joys to cherish and the disappointments for which to seek redemption. The winds of autumn are already beginning to blow, but for the teams and drivers it’s not time to be lethargic: the last objectives are the hardest ones to achieve, but they’re also those that give the greatest joy.

Marcus Armstrong (Prema Power Team), already on top of the standings, was the fastest of everyone in the first round of qualifying. At the start of Race 1 the New Zealander made a great gateway, leading all the way to the chequered flag. His team mate, the Estonian Juri Vips, suffered damage in the first corner and was forced to retire leaving the way for the Dutch driver Job Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport), who took second place but also in the final three laps caught right up to the race leader and finishing in the slipstream of the race winner. On the third step of the podium was the German driver Lirim Zendeli (BWT Mücke Motorsport), who did well to hold off the attacks of the Italian Lorenzo Colombo (Bhaitech) who ultimately finished 5th, after the Indian Kush Maini (Jenzer Motorsport) took advantage of the battle to finish in 4th. Sixth place for the Guatemalan driver Ian Rodriguez (DRZ Benelli), followed by Fernandez, Lorandi (both driving for the Bhaitech team), Giacomo Bianchi (Jenzer Motorsport) and Artem Petrov (DR Formula). Lorandi won the Rookie Trophy, consolidating his lead in the series for drivers making their debut in the championship, followed by Giorgio Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport) and Felipe Branquinho (DR Formula).

Strong overnight rain meant that the track was unmanageable. So Race 2 of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth was postponed and reduced from 28‘+ 1 lap to 21’ + 1 lap. The race started - for safety reasons - behind the Safety Car, which led the race group for 4 laps. By the fifth lap, the poleman Job Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport) had built a great lead. He won by more than 7 seconds ahead of the Estonian Juri Vips (Prema Power Team), who did well to comeback seventh position and able to record the best lap of the race. Third was Kush Maini (Jenzer Motorsport), who was overtaken by Vips during the last lap. Also the winner of Race 1, Armstrong (Prema Power Team) made a nice comeback from 8th to 4th. Behind him, was Lorenzo Colombo (Bhaitech), Lirim Zendeli (BWT Mücke Motorsport) and Leonardo Lorandi (Bhaitech). This one was once again the winner of the Rookie Trophy, ahead of Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport) and the brasilian Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Power Team).

Due to uncertain weather conditions, Race 3 of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth was moved up at 16:15 instead of 17:00. The sky was cloudy but there was no rain falling and the track was almost completely dry, which is why the drivers lined up with slick tyres. For safety reasons, however, the race began behind the Safety Car and the race time was reduced from 28’ + 1 lap to 21’ + 1 lap. Once underway, it was again Job Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport), who already won Race 2, who took the lead immediately and then went on to take the checkered flag unchallenged. Behind him, however, the battle was intense and the main protagonist was Juri Vips (Prema Power Team): he recovered from 6th position, but on the sixth lap he had a contact with Maini (Jenzer Motorsport). The two drivers widen in the sandtrap and finish in sixth (Vips) and ninth (Maini) positions. Leonardo Lorandi (Bhaitech) and Armstrong (Prema Power Team), second and third respectively, take advantage of this situation. In fourth place is Fernandez (Baitech), who started ninth on the grid. Fifth position for Zendeli (BWT Mücke Motorsport). In the Rookie Trophy, a third win in this weekend for Lorandi, followed by Fittipaldi (Prema Power Team) and Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport).

Armstrong’s lead at the top of the standings continues to grow, if only a few points at a time. While behind him, after his great weekend at Imola, Vab Uitert has risen while Colombo has lost some ground. In all likelihood, the championship will come down to a battle between these three drivers.

F.4 ROOKIE His three wins at Imola extended Leonardo Lorandi’s winning streak to 12, making it 13 victories in 15 races. Only mathematics is keeping him from a triumph unlikely to escape Bhaitech’s Italian driver.

Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth
With the 3 races held in Imola on September 9th and 10th, the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth reached the milestone of 80 competitive rounds. During the first 2 seasons, 3 races were held each weekend. But since 2016, there can now be either 3 or 4 races depending on the number of confirmed drivers. A total of 27 drivers have won at least one race from 2014 to the present, a rather high number favoured by the very nature of the championship, in which each new season sees a nearly complete driver turnover. Despite that, drivers capable of winning races in two different seasons have not been lacking. At present, the winningest driver is Ralf Aron, followed by Stroll, who has seen a good number of victories “stolen” by his teammate Maisano (first to the finish line even though, in the general standings, the Frenchman was competing for the Italian Trophy and not the Italian F.4 Championship). Worthy of note is the presence of Van Uitert, tied for third with 6 victories, who is currently battling for the title and is potentially on course to become, perhaps even this year, the winningest driver of all time.

CHAMPIONSHIP CIRCUIT The Mugello circuit is one of the most important in Italy, with a more than 40-year tradition since its inauguration in 1974. The 5,245-meter course is characterized by 15 curves and has never been modified, always guaranteeing a great show on both two and four wheels. The 2017 Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth already held its round 4 on this track back in mid-July.
On that occasion the star was Juri Vips, finishing with a victory and two second-place finishes. It was also a good weekend for the current leader of the standings, Armstrong, who with that race began to distance himself from the pack. Van Uitert’s memories are less pleasant, as he won Race 3 but was forced to retire from both Race 1 and Race 2.

All vehicles must compulsorily use engine Abarth 414TF 1400 cc. Fire Turbo supplied by ABARTH. Each conductor, for each event, will be combined with a single motor.
