It is time to get back to work and, above all, to the great world of motorsports. After the summer break, it is time to get back on the track and experience, once again, that atmosphere of competitiveness, safety and speed. About a month and a half has passed since the last race in Austria. Both the Formula Regional European Championship and the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth fought their battles in the striking Red Bull Ring racing circuit. The break has allowed the two single-seater championships, organized by ACI Sports and promoted by WSK Promotions, to recharge their batteries and catapult towards an electrifying season finale. In between, there was also time for an intense testing session in Imola, for the F.4. Now, at the racetrack dedicated to Enzo and Dino Ferrari stakes are much higher, and the next races can already be worth a very important commitment for future victories. The imperative is not to make mistakes as, faux pas made just a few races from the end of the championship are, undoubtedly, awful traveling companions.

Let us get back to Imola, at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit, 4909 meters long and one of the few in which laps are raced counterclockwise. Inaugurated in 1953, the Imola circuit has really made history in international motorsports. The ideal stage for a weekend of races that promises to be particularly fantastic as both the Italian Formula 4 Championship powered by Abarth and the Formula Regional European Championship will recuperate here the races cancelled due to bad weather in the previous Vallelunga round for the F. Regional and the Misano round for the F.4.

Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam) makes his first round of the Austrian weekend despite not having a great start from the pole position. At the start, Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam) starting from the first row, and Igor Fraga (DR Formula) in fourth position, are quicker at getting themselves into the lead. The Danish driver, however, does not get discouraged and, lap after lap, he makes up time getting closer to the leaders. During lap 5, Vesti is in the second position which shortens the distance from the leader thanks to the safety car due to Alexandre Bardinon (Van Amersfoort Racing) leaving the race after the rear right tyre coming off. At the restart Vesti takes the upper hand on Fittipaldi, getting into the lead and winning the race. The Brazilian, on the other hand, not only gives way to his teammate but also ends up in the gravel in an attempt to defend his position and unexpectedly does not get on the podium as he is overtaken by Fraga and David Schumacher (US Racing). The noteworthy performance of Sophia Flörsch, who started from the back of the grid, ends up in the 6th spot at the finish of the race.

Holding onto the pole position once more in his 5th consecutive victories (Vallelunga, the 3 Hungaroring races and 1 race at the Spielberg), Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam) starts a race with a somewhat predictable outcome which in the end results in a more challenging spot than expected. Igor Fraga (DR Formula), in fact, rearends the car of the Danish driver in the first part of the race, making him lose quite a few positions. At the restart Vesti performs an intense recovery with incredibly fast laps while overtaking Konsta Lappalainen (KIC Motorsport), Isac Blomqvist (KIC Motorsport) and Raul Guzman (DR Formula). Contacts, crashes and drivers leaving the race due to technical problems facilitate Vesti’s advancement, also the safety car entering the track and the drive through penalty against Fraga, which costs him the first position. At this point, Vesti immediately overtakes Schumacher (US Racing) and races towards victory while behind him the German driver holds his spot, gaining the second final position in front of an excellent performance by Lappalainen, who has started the race from the 11th spot.

Igor Fraga (DR Formula) wins the 3rd race thanks to a decisive start from the first row while, driving a fantastic defense style, which keeps his opponents from overtaking him. The toughest driver is Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam) who started in the pole position. The winner of the weekend’s first two races attempts the overtaking without any luck. On the contrary, Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam) blocks the team-mate in the closing stages of the race, settling in second place. The third spot leaves a bitter taste for Vesti, yet the weekend for him can only be considered highly successful. Getting back to the drivers’ standings of finishing the race, behind the first 3 we find Raul Guzman (DR Formula) and Sophia Flörsch (Van Amersfoort Racing) an excellent recovery from a weekend compromised of qualifying problems which forced her to always start from the back of the grid and continually make outstanding comebacks.
99 Sophia Flörsch
Van Amersfoort Racing
41 Raul Guzman DR Formula

STANDINGS, NEWS & REGULATIONS FR / CHAMPIONSHIP The second half of the F. Regional European Championship begins at Imola, and it starts with Vesti leading with 243 points, followed by Fittipaldi with 188 and Schumacher with a gap of 120 points in the drivers’ standings. Still, with 4 rounds still to be competed there is plenty room for sensational changes in the overall standings.
FR / ROOKIE The Rookie drivers’ rankings are very similar to the main drivers’ rankings. The scores change, but the positions are basically the same: Vesti, Fittipaldi, Schumacher. The first difference is the fourth spot for Caldwell, who climbs a place compared to the overall standings.
FR / TEAM Here the game is much more clear. Prema Powerteam leads with well over 243 points ahead of DR Formula. Although the game seems already decided as for the victory, with US Racing in third position with 19 points, it still is an open competition for second place.

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE JOURNEY Frederik Vesti has undoubtedly been the main character of the first 4 rounds of the F. Regional European Championship, able to achieve 8 victories out of 11 races. A crescendo that has seen his name in first place on all of the rankings during the Red Bull Ring weekend with victories, pole positions and fast lap times, with the exclusion of the 3rd race. However, the advantage in the rankings is only 55 points and, with 13 more races to go, there is still room for everything to change! This championship deserves a special consideration as a whole. In the middle of its first season is the most difficult time for a new realism in the consolidated panorama of motorsports, it is truly doing great. So far, 9 teams have participated in at least one race, with drivers of 13 different nationalities and the number of verified drivers is constantly growing, this is a sign of the appreciation of the championship settings and that of an increasingly high competitiveness of the event itself.

The first race of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth at the Red Bull Ring is full of twists and turns of events. At the start, the pole position driver Roman Stanek (US Racing) loses immediately every chance of winning as he ends up in the rear of the group. Shortly thereafter, a double accident involving Mikhael Belov (Bhaitech) who hits Giorgio Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport) and Laszlo Toth (R-ace GP) shuffles the cards again with the entry of the safety car. At the restart, Paul Aron (Prema Powerteam) is the fastest to take the lead followed, in order, by Niklas Krütten (Van Amersfoort Racing), Alessandro Famularo (Prema Powerteam), William Alatalo (BWT Mücke Motorsport) e Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing). Aron and Krütten take off, yet it is the Estonian driver who wins with great concentration and professionalism. Joshua Dürksen (BWT Mücke Motorsport) gets the third spot by regaining several positions and take a well-deserved podium spot. Disappointing day for Famularo, virtually on the podium until the entry of the safety car on the track, with a consequent slide back to the sixth spot.
31 Pietro Delli Guanti BVM Racing

Masterful come back for Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing) in the 2nd race where he started from the 5th position. At the start, the Norwegian driver immediately climbs two positions while Niklas Krütten (Van Amersfoort Racing) leads the group in front of Giorgio Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport). Shortly after, the safety car is called to the track due to an accident that involves Pesce (Jenzer Motorsport), Cipriani (Cram Motorsport), Rasmussen (Prema Powerteam), Toth (R-ace GP) and Freymuth (AS Motorsport). Right after the restart Hauger passes Carrara, while Jesse Salmenautio (DRZ Benelli) takes the opportunity to climb to the second spot. Three laps later, though, Hauger overtakes him and chases after Krütten taking the first position a few laps later. Krütten closes into second, Salmenautio third, while in the excited final lap Carrara slides back to the 8th spot and Gregoire Saucy (R-ace GP) completes an excellent comeback from 14th to the 4th position. Ninth spot for the championship leader Petecof (Prema Powerteam) after a long race weakened by the flu. 88 Amna Al Qubaisi Abu Dhabi Racing
25 William Alatalo

Giorgio Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport) wins his first race of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth by earning a first spot on the race at the very start. The Argentinian driver, in fact, greatly overtakes the poleman Roman Stanek (US Racing) and keeps the lead until the finish line. Stanek, instead, slides back to the 5th position of the final rankings. Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing) finishes second, thus gaining precious points which brings him at only four lengths from the overall leader, Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam). The Brazilian racer leaves the Austrian weekend trying to contain the damage and closes fourth in race 3 with a great comeback from the 8th position and the fastest lap. His physical condition is not excellent, therefore, to have collected some points with these premises, is a good result. The third place on the podium of race 3 goes to Aron (Prema Powerteam) first amongst the rookies. To note the great driving of Gregoire Saucy (R-ace GP) from 14th to the 9th spot and Axel Gnos (Jenzer Motorsport) from the 20th position to the 13th.
24 Laszlo Toth R-ace GP

STANDINGS, NEWS & REGULATIONS F.4 / CHAMPIONSHIP The overall placings of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth is definitely short. Petecof leads with only 4 points ahead of Hauger, who is basically breathing down Petecof’s neck. Despite being further back with 92 points, Aron is still in the game.

F.4 / ROOKIE In the rookie standing there are 5 drivers in just 62 points, those which separate the leader Dürksen from Vebster. Close attention should be paid, in particular, to Aron who won 4 out of the last 6 races. With Edgar and Stanek completing the picture, uncertainty definitely reigns supreme.

F.4 / TEAM Extremely heated competition amongst the manufacturers, with Prema Powerteam being only 3 points ahead of Van Amersfoort Racing. So far, both have achieved points with four drivers. IMOLA TESTS
DUEL IN THE STANDINGS
An official day of testing was held on Thursday July 18th at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy, for the drivers of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth. Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing) has confirmed his outstanding performance by registering the best lap time (1’44.254). The second-best time was achieved by the Bhaitech Racing test driver (1’44.575) followed by the current leader of the drivers’ standings, the Brazilian Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam) with his best lap recorded at 1’44.735.
The Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth 2019, arrived at the halfway point, it lives in an intense and exciting classification competition. The main characters are Petecof and Hauger who are only 4 points apart and winners of 4 racing tests each. Hauger has an extra overall podium spot, yet from now to the very end, the road is still very long. The game of eliminations will be decisive as well, since it should be remembered that the final rankings will have only the 16 best results obtained by each one. Therefore, some “boxes” with just a few points scored is not necessarily a negative spot.
