The Formula Regional European Championship continues to advance, with brisk steps, toward the decisive epilogue of what is its first year of life. A year which, although three races are still to be competed, has already generated more than positive outcomes and has met with joy and satisfaction with the enthusiasm of the drivers, teams and professionals who have been the protagonists of this exciting season. The rankings is still open and, despite the current leader appearing firmly in the lead, anything can happen in the coming races, starting from this race in Barcelona, Spain, on one of the most important tracks in the international motorsport scene. For the last two races we will return to Italy on equally legendary and significant racetracks: Mugello and Monza for the grand finale. Stay tuned! There is still time to enjoy the end of this exciting show.
La Formula Regional European Championship continua ad avanzare, con marcia spedita, verso il decisivo epilogo di quello che è il suo primo anno di vita. Un anno che, sebbene manchino ancora tre gare, ha già lanciato segnali più che positivi e ha raccolto con gioia e soddisfazione l’entusiasmo di piloti, team e addetti ai lavori protagonisti di questa avvincente stagione. La classifica è ancora aperta e, nonostante l’attuale leader appaia saldamente al comando, nei prossimi weekend può ancora succedere di tutto. A partire da questa gara di Barcellona, in Spagna, su un tracciato tra i più importanti del panorama del motorsport internazionale. Per le ultime due gare, invece, si tornerà in Italia, su piste altrettanto mitiche e significative: Mugello e Monza, per il gran finale. Rimanete sintonizzati, perché c’è ancora tempo per godersi la fine di questo appassionante spettacolo.

The Catalonia circuit was inaugurated in 1991 and it is home to the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix. In addition to the single seaters, it is also a leg of the MotoGP. The track is 4655 meters long and consists of 16 turns. Thanks to the mild climate of the Barcelona area, it is one of the most used by the teams for winter tests.

Il circuito di Catalogna venne inaugurato nel 1991 ed è la sede del Gran Premio di Spagna di Formula 1. Oltre alle monoposto è anche una tappa del motomondiale. Il tracciato è lungo 4655 m ed è composto da 16 curve. Grazie alla mitezza del clima della zona di Barcellona, è uno dei più utilizzati dalle scuderie per i test invernali.

REMEMBERING HUBERT A touching moment, at Imola, on Sunday September 1 when, before the races start, was observed a moment of silence in memory of Hubert, the French driver who passed away the previous day following the terrible Spa accident in Formula 2. In addition to the memory by Hubert, the whole Formula Regional and F.4 paddock wanted to send his encouragement to Juan Manuel Correa, the other driver involved in the Spa accident, which in 2016 took part to the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth.
Momento toccante, a Imola, domenica 1 settembre quando, prima del via alle gare, è stato osservato un minuto di silenzio in ricordo di Hubert, il pilota francese morto il giorno precedente in seguito al terribile incidente di Spa in Formula 2. Insieme al ricordo di Hubert, tutto il paddock della Formula Regional e della F.4 ha voluto mandare il suo incoraggiamento a Juan Manuel Correa, l’altro pilota coinvolto nell’incidente di Spa, che nel 2016 partecipò all’Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth.

The start of race 1 in Imola was exciting: Igor Fraga (DR Fomula RP Motorsport), from pole position, kept his lead but, behind him, his competitors were keeping an eye on his movements from close range. The first of the pursuers was Olli Caldwell (Prema Powerteam), who did well to overtake Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam) at the start, reaching second position. However, during the race, Fraga managed to keep up a more sustained pace and get away from the competition, at least until the safety car entered after a spin that caused Marcos Siebert (US Racing) to end up in the sand, forcing the Argentine driver to withdraw. At the restart, the only change was the overtaking of Vesti by Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam). However, the conquest for virtual third place did not last long, because the leader in the general rankings reacted immediately and reached third place, where he stayed until the finish line, with Fraga in front, in first place, and Caldwell in second place.

La partenza di gara 1 di Imola è concitata: Igor Fraga (DR Fomula RP Motorsport), dalla pole, conserva la testa, ma, dietro, gli avversari lo controllano a distanza ravvicinata. Il primo degli inseguitori è Olli Caldwell (Prema Powerteam), bravo a sorpassare Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam) in partenza, rubandogli la seconda posizione. Nel corso della gara, comunque, Fraga riesce a mantenere un ritmo più sostenuto e allontanare la concorrenza, almeno fino all’ingresso della safety car in seguito a un testacoda che fa finire la monoposto di Marcos Siebert (US Racing) nella sabbia costringendo il pilota argentino al ritiro. Alla ripartenza l’unico colpo di scena è il sorpasso di Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam) ai danni di Vesti. Ma la conquista del terzo gradino virtuale del podio dura poco, perché il leader della classifica generale si rifà subito sotto e riprende il terzo posto che manterrà fino al traguardo, tagliato alle spalle di Fraga, primo, e Caldwell, secondo.

Olli Caldwell (Prema Powerteam) was the protagonist at the start of Race 2, going into the lead after starting from third place. The same cannot be said of Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam), who fell from second to sixth position, while the poleman Vesti was in immediate pursuit of the leader. The duel between the two teammates was intense and exciting and, after several attempts, the Dane Vesti managed to overtake the Englishman Caldwell from the inside, achieving first place. Behind the leading pair, Igor Fraga (DR Formula RP Motorsport) stayed in third position from the first to the last lap, keeping his distance from Raul Guzman (DR Formula RP Motorsport) and David Schumacher (US Racing), who finished in that order. Behind him, there was a good duel between Matteo Nannini (Corbetta Racing) and Fittipaldi: after an unfortunate start, the Brazilian was also forced to give way to the Italian driver, who achieved an excellent sixth place.

Olli Caldwell (Prema Powerteam) è il protagonista della partenza di Gara 2, conquistando la testa della gara dopo lo start dal terzo posto. Non lo stesso si può dire di Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam), che da secondo scivola addirittura in sesta posizione, mentre il poleman Vesti si mette subito all’inseguimento del leader. Il duello tra i due compagni di team è intenso ed emozionante e, dopo diversi tentativi, il danese Vesti riesce a passare repentinamente all’interno l’inglese Caldwell facendo sua la prima posizione. Alle spalle della coppia di testa Igor Fraga (DR Formula RP Motorsport) mantiene la terza posizione dal primo all’ultimo giro, tenendo a distanza Raul Guzman (DR Formula RP Motorsport) e David Schumacher (US Racing), che chiudono nell’ordine. Dietro, va in scena un bel duello tra Matteo Nannini (Corbetta Racing) e Fittipaldi: il brasiliano, dopo la sfortunata partenza, è costretto a cedere il passo anche al pilota italiano, che conquista un ottimo sesto posto.

In the initial phase, Race 3 saw the significant dominance of the Prema Powerteam: in fact, there were three drivers from the Italian team who started in front of everyone, with Frederik Vesti roaring off from pole position and maintaining the lead, while behind him Olli Caldwell overtook Enzo Fittipaldi. However, in the middle of the race, the English driver misread a bend and ended up off the track. So the Brazilian was back in second place (as he was on the starting grid) and he crossed the finish line in this position behind his teammate Vesti and ahead of Igor Fraga (DR Formula RP Motorsport). However, the result was changed by the commissioners: in fact, during the race, after the entry of the safety car, Vesti was the protagonist of a strange restart with which he fooled most of the group. This is why he was penalized 5 seconds, slipping into third place and giving victory to Fittipaldi. Second place for Fraga and a special mention for Sophia Flörsch (Van Amersfoort Racing), who started in eighth place and finished fourth at the finish line.

Gara 3 vede, nella fase iniziale, un significativo predominio della Prema Powerteam: sono infatti tre piloti della scuderia italiana a partire davanti a tutti, con Frederik Vesti che scatta dalla pole e mantiene la posizione, mentre alle sue spalle Olli Caldwell sopravanza Enzo Fittipaldi. L’inglese, però, a metà gara interpreta male una curva e finisce fuori. Così il brasiliano torna al secondo posto (com’era in griglia di partenza) e in questa posizione taglia il traguardo dietro il compagno di squadra Vesti e davanti a Igor Fraga (DR Formula RP Motorsport). Il risultato, però, viene rivoluzionato dai commissari: nel corso della gara, infatti, dopo l’ingresso della safety car, Vesti è protagonista di una strana ripartenza con la quale inganna gran parte del gruppo. Per questo motivo viene penalizzato di 5 secondi, scivolando in terza posizione e consegnando la vittoria a Fittipaldi. Piazza d’onore per Fraga e menzione speciale per Sophia Flörsch (Van Amersfoort Racing), partita ottava e arrivata quarta al traguardo.

The last race of the weekend at Imola is the one that is the redo for Race 3 which was cancelled due to bad weather at Vallelunga. The starting grid sees Isaac Blomqvist (KIC Motorsport) in the pole position, who at the start maintains the lead. Behind him is Sophia Flörsch (Van Amersfoort Racing) who overtakes Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam) and takes up a second spot tailed by Olli Caldwell (Prema Powerteam). The situation, however, is short-lived. An accident involving Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam) and David Schumacher (US Racing) forces the Brazilian to leave the race, while Flörsch is rear-ended by Vesti and loses several positions. The entry of the safety car is also necessary, and at the restart, the situation sees Caldwell jump into the lead, Vesti in the second spot and Blomqvist third. The twists and turns never seem to end, Vesti achieves the first position after a spectacular overtaking in the Ravizza corner and, from there, he flies toward the victory lane leaving Caldwell and Blomqvist behind. Everything seems concluded but, due to the contact with Flörsch, Vesti is penalized by 25 seconds, slipping into the sixth spot. The winner, therefore, is Caldwell with Blomqvist moving to the second position while the third step of the podium goes to Igor Fraga (DR Formula RP Motorsport).

L’ultima gara del weekend di Imola è quella che recupera Gara 3 annullata a Vallelunga per maltempo. La griglia di partenza vede in pole Isaac Blomqvist (KIC Motorsport), che al via mantiene la leadership. Dietro, ottimo spunto per Sophia Flörsch (Van Amersfoot Racing), che supera Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam) e si insedia in seconda posizione tallonata da Olli Caldwell (Prema Powerteam). La situazione ha però vita breve: un incidente che coinvolge Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam) e David Schumacher (US Racing) costringe il brasiliano al ritiro, mentre la Flörsch viene tamponata da Vesti e perde diverse posizioni. È necessario anche l’ingresso della safety car, alla ripartenza, la situazione vede Caldwell in testa, Vesti al secondo posto e Blomqvist terzo. I colpi di scena però non finiscono: Vesti ottiene la prima posizione dopo uno spettacolare sorpasso all’interno alla curva Ravizza e, da qui, si invola verso la vittoria lasciandosi alle spalle Caldwell e Blomqvist. Sembra tutto concluso, ma, a causa del contatto con la Flörsch, Vesti viene penalizzato di 25 secondi e scivola così al sesto posto. A vincere, quindi, è Caldwell, con Blomqvist che avanza in seconda posizione, mentre il terzo gradino del podio va a Igor Fraga (DR Formula RP Motorsport).

Yet the race is still open, with Fraga and Caldwell who pass Schumacher and reduce the gap in the runners-up to second place. Among the Rookies, the first two names are the same ones as in the overall rankings, just as the lead is (76 points instead of 75), even if it is the result of different overall scores. The name of the third driver in the standings, instead, is different: Schumacher, at 198 points. Tra i Rookie, i primi due nomi sono gli stessi della generale, così come quasi lo stesso è il distacco (76 punti anziché 75), anche se figlio di punteggi complessivi differenti. Diverso, invece, il nome del terzo in classifica: Schumacher, a quota 198.
