We arrived in Monza where, after the last races, the curtain will be lowered on the long and electrifying season of the Formula Regional European Championship and the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth. Once again, the two series will run concurrently and, although from a purely sporting point of view the final results will be issued by the missing races, a first general assessment of this year can already be made. The F. Regional, at its debut in motorsports, was a gamble and could generate a bit of skepticism, but instead it received support, approval and a strong participation. The Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth was at its sixth edition and was confirmed as a successful series, increasingly chosen by young drivers as a first experience in single seaters after their years in karting. ACI Sport and WSK Promotion, at the beginning of the adventure, had set themselves the goal of generating enthusiasm and making available to teams and drivers a prestigious, well-organized and competitive stage. We can definitely confirm that, this year too, the goal has been successfully achieved.

The “Autodromo nazionale di Monza” (now known as the Monza Eni Circuit) is the third purposebuilt motor racing circuit in the world. The track is 5793 meters long. Inaugurated in 1922, after the construction was completed in a record time of only 110 days, it definitely was an avant-garde project, taking into account that at the time, in Italy, there were only about 35.500 personal cars (one per 1000 inhabitants) on the road. The circuit hosted “gran Premio d’Italia” for 80 times and until 1968 also the motorcycle Grand Prix of Nations.

Race 1 sees Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam) and David Schumacher (US Racing) spring into action from the front row, the two drivers who take the first and third spot in the overall general rankings. Vesti is great at taking full advantage of the pole position and maintains the lead. The German opponent, on the other hand, is overtaken by Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam) and loses a position at the start. The passing, however, does not last long as Schumacher appears faster and in the span of 5 laps he regains second place. After being passed Fittipaldi loses his aggressiveness, while behind him Jake Hughes (KIC Motorsport) takes advantage of the situation and tries to attack until he manages to pass Fittipaldi and settle into third place, the position in which he crosses the finish line. No changes in the leading spots with Vesti who controls the race and wins with about a two second gap ahead of Schumacher.

For Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam) race 2 seems even easier than the initial one. The Danish driver not only takes off from the pole position and is very effective at the start, but soon increases his advantage during the race leaving his opponents no possible chances to attack. While Vesti wins by dominating the race, behind him the situation is more hard-fought. David Schumacher (US Racing), second at the start, runs a good race which is, however, tarnished by a penalty due to an irregular start. The resulting drive through takes him to the back of the pack, before to have to leave the race 4 laps from the end. On the podium we find Lirim Zendeli (US Racing) and Jake Hughes (KIC Motorsport) on the lower step, author of the fastest lap and great at climbing from the sixth position. It is worth noting the overtaking in the final stage of the race with which Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam) takes the fourth spot. A result that takes away, by a single point, the mathematical certainty of the title to Vesti.

David Schumacher (US Racing) proves himself once again very fast and determined from the start. While in the previous 2 races something was missing and he was not able to get to the top step of the podium, in race 3 everything goes very well. The German driver starts well in first position and wins with a 6 second advantage. Behind him, his teammate Lirim Zendeli (US Racing) initially tries to overtake him, but finds no space to pass and, at the end, he settles for second position. Third place for Jake Hughes (KIC Motorsport) recovering, once again, from the sixth position he had at the start of the race. Yet, in this Race 3 of Mugello, there is also another racer who celebrates, Frederik Vesti (Prema Powerteam) to whom the fourth place, added to the sixth spot of his direct opponent and teammate Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Powerteam), secures him the Championship title of the 2019 Formula Regional European Championship certified by FIA one weekend in advance. Great job!

Bravo!

VESTI GOES FAST
Frederik Vesti has claimed the inaugural Formula Regional European Championship title. The Danish driver, born on January 13th, 2002, was a central character from the get-go on the new series certified by FIA and he continued his journey without missing a beat. Suffice it to say that the Prema Powerteam driver has achieved at least one victory in each round of the Championship, scoring even a hat-trick during the Hungaroring weekend. Overall, he accomplished 12 wins and 17 podium finishes. If we add the 10 pole positions, it becomes clear that winning the title with a race to spare did not come as a surprise! With the victory, Vesti also scored a valuable haul of 25 FIA Superlicense points, the maximum number of points awarded in this band of Championship.

FR / CHAMPIONSHIP Vesti is the first winner of the Formula Regional European Championship certified by FIA. The Danish driver celebrates the title one race ahead thanks to the two victories at Mugello. Still open the battle for the second place between Fittipaldi and Schumacher.
FR / ROOKIE Although he is the champion in the general ranking, Vesti still has to wait for the Rookie classification. The advantage on Fittipaldi is significant, yet it will be the race in Monza to have the last word. Schumacher is third, out of the fight for the title but not out for the second step of the podium.
FR / TEAM Prema Powerteam can certainly celebrate from the height of its 772 points. US Racing, with 377 points, can only try not losing its second place to DR Formula RP Motorsport which is just 5 lengths behind.

Paul Aron (Prema Powerteam) wins the first race at Mugello, great at taking advantage of the consequences of the heated duel between Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam) and Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing), who initially were leading the race. At the restart, after a first entry of the safety car, the Brazilian attacks the Norwegian aggressively and hits him, putting him into a spin (Hauger will finish eleventh) and suffering a penalty of 10 seconds which relegates him to the back of the line-up. Aron, as mentioned, is able to take advantage of the situation and concentrated on leading the race keeping at bay a wild Lorenzo Ferrari (Antonelli Motorsport), the protagonist of an amazing race characterized by a comeback of several positions. Third is Jonny Edgar (Jenzer Motorsport), also the driver with the fastest lap as well. Race 1 ends with the entry of the safety car which reassembles the group back together to the finish line, following an off-track that involves the Paraguayan driver Joshua Dürksen (BWT Mücke Motorsport).

In race 2 Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing) wins, starting from the pole, with an imposing pace that soon proves to be unbeatable for all of the other opponents. The only one who somehow tries to keep up with Hauger’s pace is Roman Stanek (US Racing) who wins a well-deserved second place with a gap of almost 4 seconds. While Hauger and Stanek reach the finish line maintaining the same starting positions, behind them the race is tough and very entertaining, thanks especially to Ido Cohen (Van Amersfoort Racing), third after an excellent performance topped with a couple of really remarkable overtaking of Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam) and Joshua Dürksen (BWT Mücke Motorsport). Furthermore, in the final laps, the race of the Israeli driver suffered a further shock when Roy Lucas Alecco Roy (Van Amersfoort Racing) goes off the track, and the safety car has to enter. At the restart, Cohen loses his position on Paul Aron (Prema Powerteam) and is forced to regain it with an additional fantastic overtaking two laps from the end.
31 Marzio Moretti BVM Racing

Race 3 is again a solo win by Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing), who starts from the pole position and achieves an unquestionable victory. The Norwegian driver reaches the finish line with almost 10 seconds ahead of his most direct pursuer Paul Aron (Prema Powerteam). The most engaging battle is that for third place, where Joshua Dürksen (BWT Mücke Motorsport) manages to win despite the passing attempts by Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam), who also had a great performance and finished fourth. With this race Hauger becomes the winner of the 2019 Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth, one weekend ahead. The important rookie titles, on the other hand, are still open. The drivers ranking sees Paul Aron in the lead, while the team ranking is led by Van Amersfoort Racing. The final round at Monza will be a decisive one for them.

2019 CHAMPION & STANDINGS
HAUGER, A CHAMPION WHO COMES FROM KARTING When it is said that the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth aims at leading kart drivers to the world of the single seaters, it certainly is not a lie. The 2019 champion, Dennis Hauger, in fact, started to show his value by winning at a young age the WSK Super Master Series in the MINI category in 2015. Four years have passed and the Norwegian driver, born in 2003, celebrates his first car title, reaching the end of a Championship that has seen him always in leading positions. The success is distinguished also by the consistency of the adversaries, starting from Gianluca Petecof, leader of the classification for the first 4 rounds. In the second part of the season, though, Hauger accelerated thus closing the results already at Mugello, with one race to spare.

F.4 / CHAMPIONSHIP Hauger and Petecof seemed destined to battle until the last round. Instead, the two victories of the Norwegian driver at Mugello and the difficulties of the opponent, gave Hauger the title with a race to spare. Third spot for Aron, who can still aim at climbing a position. Hauger e Petecof sembravano destinati a duellare fino all’ultimo round.
F.4 / ROOKIE The Rookie ranking is quite short. Aron leads with 299 points, followed by Edgar at 234 while Dürksen is third at 227 points. The title will be assigned in Monza and everything can still change! Secondo è Edgar a quota 234, terzo Dürksen a 227 punti.
