WSK Super Master Series 2019 | Round 3 - Muro Leccese

Page 1

EDITORIAL by Luca De Donno The great karting returns to La Conca International Circuit. The Muro Leccese (Lecce, Italy) circuit is a sort of “first-born” for the WSK world: here we started our adventure on February 5th 2006, when the first race of international relevance by WSK Promotion took place with the International Series. It seemed an impossible challenge. However, after quite a few years, we can say not only that it was won, but also that it was done with an exponential growth from an organizational and participation point of view. Coming back to these areas, therefore, is always a pleasure both because, deep down, one feels a bit more at home and because here, more than anywhere else, one comes to grips with the past remembering where we started and being thankful for the successes achieved. WSK Promotion is always looking towards the future, yet it knows very well that passion, at times, one must also be able to look to the past, because without the past, there is no future!

[ OK ] RANKING P.

In the OK class final, Dexter Patterson (KR/IAME) performs a great comeback: the British born driver starts the race from the fourth row and fires up by achieving one overtaking after the other, until he captures the first position during the 14th lap. In the first phase of the race, the leader is Lorenzo Travisanutto (KR/IAME), who loses his position only after three laps to Noah Milell (Tony Kart/Vortex). The driver, in turn, stays in the lead up to overtaking Patterson which gives him the victory and the second position in the general temporary ranking. Behind him, Travisanutto overtakes Milell and garners the second position, while the Swedish racer slips into the sixth position. The lowest podium step is obtained by another Swede driver, Dino Beganovic (Tony Kart/Vortex).

301 Andrea Kimi Antonelli KR / IAME

354 Marcel Kuc Parolin / TM Racing

[ OKJ ] RANKING P.

Unexpected twists are the protagonists of the OKJ final. The first is provided, despite himself, by Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR/IAME), in the lead for the first 7 laps and then forced to withdraw from the race. To benefit from this is the couple formed by the Russian Nikita Bedrin (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Artem Severiukhin (Tony Kart/Vortex), with the initial participation of the Dutch Thomas Ten Brinke (FA Kart/Vortex). Bedrin remains in the lead until the last lap, but the close combat with the compatriot ends up provoking an off-track mishap, which causes both to slide back. The road to victory is, therefore, unexpectedly open for the British Jamie Day (Exprit/Vortex), who crowns an awesome race in which he recuperates 8 positions compared to the start and, above all, never ceases to give up. Behind him, Ten Brinke (FA Kart/Vortex) and the Russian Andrey Zhivnov (Kosmic/Vortex) complete the podium. 323 Ugo Ugochukwu FA Kart / Vortex

525 Akshay Arjun Bohra Parolin / TM Racing

[ 60 MINI ] RANKING

In the category dedicated to younger drivers, with well over 108 verified so far, Rashid Al Dhaheri (Parolin/TM Racing) takes the victory convincingly. The United Arab Emirates driver dominates the race from start to finish, even if things do not go as smooth as one might suppose. Behind him, in fact, several opponents attempt to steal the first position. Amongst them, we find Akshay Bohra (Parolin/TM Racing) and Alex Powell (Energy/ TM Racing), who manage to constantly follow on the heels of Al Dhaheri but end up being counterattacked by those behind them. At the end of the race Powell ends up fourth and Bohra arrives in fifth. Stepping on the podium are, instead, Ean Eyckmans (Parolin/TM Racing), great in gaining the second place improving from his starting in the fifth position, and Andrea Filaferro (Tony Kart/TM Racing), author of constant races with few flaws.

OK Travisanutto is established in first place, increasing his lead in a far from decisive way. Dexter Patterson is behind him by only 23 points, thanks to a first place in Lonato. Third place for Dino Beganovic, who recuperated brilliantly thanks to the exceptional amount of points achieved in the last round.

OKJ The OKJ as a short ranking is revised: 94 points for Antonelli gave him the leading position, despite the 0 points in the Lonato’s finals. Behind him and very close in the rankings, we find Ten Brinke with 90 points while the former leader, Camara comes in third, attaining no points in the last round. Very close also is Day in 4th position with 81 points. Dietro, molto vicino a quota 90, c’è Ten Brinke, mentre terzo è l’ex leader Camara, rimasto a secco di punti nell’ultimo round. Molto vicino anche Day, 4° a 81 punti.

RECORD ATTENDANCE

LONATO

336

DRIVERS REGISTERED

MINI 108 OKJ 103 OK 66 KZ2 59

In the second round of the WSK Super Master Series, the number of registered drivers has reached a record quota of 336 participants! An incredible milestone that is able to be confirmed, once again, the WSK is a company of absolute mentioning for karting and an organizational machine able to manage to perfection events of an enormous magnitude. Suffice it to say that, during the weekend in Lonato, there were 10 qualifying series that were competed for, 46 elimination rounds, 8 pre-finals and 4 final events. It is the third consecutive year that the WSK increases the record attendance which previously was registered in 2012 (239 verified in the second round which raced in Sarno with 5 categories present). In 2017, in Castelletto di Branduzzo, the participating 253 drivers marked the new record. In 2018, the first round generated an increased presence, with 262 enrolled drivers, and that was outdone by the last round in Sarno with 269 racers. Now the bar is at 336, thanks to the Lonato race, where the categories which exceeded the 100 attendee’s quota were two: the MINI with 108 drivers and the OKJ, with 103. Slightly less crowded was the OK and KZ2, which still registered, respectively, 66 and 59 racers respectively.

If we consider the OKJ class, the drivers who have reached the finals and have covered a total of 56,4 km of racing (34,8 for the drivers of the MINI class), the results of 5 – 13 lap rounds of 13, the prefinal and the final race of 17 laps each. All excluding qualifying and free practices. Numbers that prove without a doubt how WSK races gives everyone the opportunity to drive at length, accumulating experience in a competitive and professional environment: undoubtedly the best formula to grow as drivers.

Interesting as well is to take a look at the nationalities of the participants, which confirms the international quality of WSK competitions. The most represented were, once again, the Italians with 69 drivers. Russia, second in this specific ranking, entered 36 participants, while Sweden was third with 28. It is also worth mentioning that all five continents were represented: Europe, Asia and America and as it often happens, Oceania and Africa were represented as well. With regards to Oceania, all participating racers were in the OKJ class: the New Zealander Kaden Probst along with Australian Christian Mansell and James Wharton. Three the drivers from Africa: in the KZ2, the South African Mihlali Mnombeli and the Mozambican Rodrigo Almeida and in the OKJ Leao Lagson, who is also from Mozambique.
