EDITORIAL by Luca De Donno The WSK Euro Series is winding down to the end of the series for 2019 and, after this weekend in Adria, it will have all four of its 2019 champions. The titleholders for the 60 MINI, OK and OKJ categories will be added to the KZ2 “number one” who was already celebrated in the race in the South Garda Karting in Lonato on June 23rd. They will be the worthy representatives of a group of drivers who have come from all over the world and provide excitement and an amazing performance along all four stages of the championship. Because, as it is true that the competition is called the “Euro” Series, it is equally true that, looking at the nationalities of the racers, each part of the globe has been worthily represented on the track. Now it is time to turn the page and see what lies ahead in the upcoming future. As usual, after a short summer break, the fall will offer us a great season finale, starting at the end of October with an Open Cup for the first time in two rounds, while in November the traditional WSK Final Cup will celebrate the final event of a season which has been very exciting and we are sure it will only get better and better!! La WSK Euro Series volge al termine e, dopo questo fine settimana di Adria, avrà tutti e quattro i suoi campioni 2019. Alla KZ2, che ha già celebrato il suo “numero uno” nella gara corsa sul circuito South Garda Karting di Lonato lo scorso 23 giugno, si aggiungeranno quelli di 60 MINI, OK e OKJ. Saranno i degni rappresentanti di una schiera di piloti arrivati da tutto il mondo per regalare emozioni e spettacolo lungo tutte e quattro le tappe di campionato. Perché se è vero che la competizione si chiama “Euro” Series, guardando le nazionalità dei concorrenti è altrettanto certo che ogni parte del globo è stata degnamente rappresentata in pista. Adesso, però, è tempo di voltare pagina e vedere cosa ci attende nel prossimo futuro. Come consuetudine, dopo una piccola pausa estiva, l’autunno ci regalerà un gran finale di stagione: si comincerà a fine ottobre, con una Open Cup per la prima volta su due prove, mentre, a novembre, la tradizionale WSK Final Cup celebrerà l’atto conclusivo di una stagione che fino ad adesso è stata entusiasmante, e siamo sicuri potrà solo migliorare.

When a Championship is played in only two rounds, just one unforeseen event is sufficient to compromise everything. The more experienced drivers know this very well and, for this reason, they always maintain a heightened state of concentration. Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex) after round 1 of the WSK Euro Series is 40 points away from the leader and before the round 2 finals, despite the victory in the prefinal, he was able to nibble away only 8 points. Someone, at that point, might consider this game over time. Not Ardigò, who accelerates his determination and, when after only one lap of the finals, an unfortunate contact stops his teammate Simo Puhakka, who until then had been the Championship leader and the qualifying and the heats best driver on the track, takes off toward an unexpected, yet well-deserved success. Now the Tony Kart driver, already third in 2010 in the Super KF, adds the WSK Euro Series to his outstanding collection of titles. Puhakka, as mentioned, is really unfortunate and having held the second position is of little consolation. Third place is celebrated by Marijn Kremers (Birel Art/TM Racing) after having climbed with decisiveness thanks to the excellent performance in Lonato, where he finished in second place.

Quando un campionato si gioca su due soli round, basta un imprevisto per compromettere tutto. I piloti più esperti lo sanno bene e, per questo, non abbassano mai la concentrazione. Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex) dopo il round 1 della WSK Euro Series è lontano 40 punti dal leader, e prima della finale del round 2, nonostante la vittoria in prefinale, di punti ne ha rosicchiati appena 8. Qualcuno, a quel punto, potrebbe considerare chiusa la partita. Non Ardigò, che sfodera la propria determinazione e, quando dopo un solo giro della finale la sfortuna ferma il compagno di squadra Simo Puhakka, fino a quel momento in testa alla classifica di campionato e miglior pilota in pista dopo qualifiche e manche, si invola verso un successo forse inatteso quanto meritato. Il portacolori Tony Kart, già terzo nel 2010 in Super KF, aggiunge così la WSK Euro Series al suo eccezionale palmares. Puhakka, come detto, è davvero sfortunato e poco lo consola aver mantenuto il secondo posto. Terzo festeggia, invece, Marijn Kremers (Birel Art/TM Racing), anche lui risalito con decisione grazie alla buona prova di Lonato chiusa al secondo posto.

Dexter Patterson (KR/IAME) non sbaglia nulla: autore del miglior tempo in qualifica, il pilota britannico esce dalle manche con due vittorie e un secondo posto, ponendo le basi per una prefinale condotta in testa dall’inizio alla fine. Stesso copione in finale, dove parte deciso e fa intendere sin da subito agli avversari la volontà di far suo anche l’ultimo traguardo. Così è! Patterson termina primo dimostrando una caparbietà notevole in grado di non avere mai flessioni nel corso del fine settimana di gara. Secondo è Lorenzo Travisanutto (KR/IAME), autore di un weekend più altalenante ma l’unico, in finale, a provare a tenere il passo del vincitore, pur senza riuscirci. L’italiano risale comunque tre posizioni e chiude secondo: un piazzamento ottimo specie per mantenere il comando della classifica generale. Terzo in finale è Harry Thompson (FA Kart/Vortex), che precede di poco il vincitore della prefinale B Dino Beganovic (Tony Kart/Vortex). [ OK ] RANKING

Dexter Patterson (KR/IAME) makes no mistakes. Author of the best qualifying time, the British driver comes out of the heats with two victories and a second position, laying the foundation for a prefinal raced in the lead from start to finish. Same script in the final where he takes off decisively and from the very beginning, he clearly displays to his opponents, his willingness to conquer the last finish line as well. And so it is! Patterson finishes first, showing remarkable focus and determination and never having even a slight drop during the race weekend. The second place goes to Lorenzo Travisanutto (KR/IAME), experiencing a more fluctuating weekend, yet being the only one in the finals to try to keep pace with the winner but not succeeding. The Italian gains three positions and closes in second, an excellent spot in particular to maintain the lead in the general overall rankings. Harry Thompson (FA Kart/ Vortex) is third in the finals, thus finishing just before the prefinal B winner, Dino Beganovic (Tony Kart/ Vortex).

I piloti OK-Junior regalano al pubblico di Lonato una finale adrenalinica e in continua evoluzione. Alla fine, a vincere è Arvid Lindblad (Exprit/TM Racing), capace di recuperare otto posizioni nell’arco di 5 giri e poi controllare con intelligenza la situzione incrementando il suo vantaggio. Alle sue spalle, in pista chiude Alfio Spina (KR/IAME), che però viene penalizzato dopo la gara scivolando al 7° posto. La piazza d’onore passa così a James Wharton (Fa Kart/Vortex), anche lui partito più indietro (undicesimo) a causa di un’opaca prefinale, dopo essere stato il migliore nelle manche, e risalito benissimo. Gradino più basso del podio per Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR/IAME): un buon piazzamento che, però, lascia un po’ di scontento vista la partenza dalla pole position. Finale ancora più amara per Ugo Ugochukwu (FA Kart/Vortex), autore del miglior tempo in qualifica e vincitore della sua prefinale, ma solo 9° al traguardo della finale. Da segnalare anche la rimonata di undici posizioni, fino al 5° posto, da parte di Artem Severiukhin (Tony Kart/Vortex).

The OK-Junior drivers provide the Lonato’s adrenaline-fueled audience with a constantly ever evolving final race. In the end, the winner is Arvid Lindblad (Exprit/TM Racing) able to recover eight positions over 5 laps and then wisely controlling the situation by increasing his gap between the other drivers. Alfio Spina (KR/ IAME) closes behind him but is penalized after the race and moves back to the 7th position. The second place then goes to James Wharton (Fa Kart/Vortex), who started further back from the eleventh position due to a mediocre prefinal, after being the best in the heats, a very well done effort. The lower step of the podium goes to Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR/IAME). A good position, but has the bitter taste of discontent, given that he started in the pole position. Even a more bitter finals for Ugo Ugochukwu (FA Kart/Vortex), author of the best qualifying time and winner of his prefinal, yet only 9th at the final’s finish line. Also noteworthy is the exceptional comeback of eleven-positions, up to 5th place by Artem Severiukhin (Tony Kart/Vortex).

Douwe Dedecker (Parolin/TM Racing) dominates in the MINI category. Great weekend for the Belgian driver who has a fantastic start, he achieves the second position in the qualification round behind Nikola Tsolov (Parolin/TM Racing) and ends even better after having won 4 qualifying heats, the prefinals and the final race. Place of honor for Manuel Scognamiglio (Tony Kart/TM Racing) with a great start which brings him from the 5th to the 2nd place within a lap, yet he is forced on chasing a very inspired leader for the rest of the race while maintaining a close gap the entire time. Third and further back from the first two drivers is Rashid Al Dhaheri (Parolin/TM Racing), who gains valuable points from a Championship perspective. Rough day for William Macintyre (Parolin/TM Racing), at least until the finals where he redeems himself by gaining 16 positions and finishing 5th behind Tsolov. Enough to keep himself in the lead in the general overall rankings.

Douwe Dedecker (Parolin/TM Racing) domina nella MINI: il weekend del pilota belga inizia con un passo decisamente positivo grazie al secondo posto nelle qualifiche dietro a Nikola Tsolov (Parolin/TM Racing), e termina ancora meglio dopo aver vinto 4 manche, prefinale e finale. Piazza d’onore per Manuel Scognamiglio (Tony Kart/TM Racing), bravo ad avere un ottimo spunto in partenza salendo da 5° a 2° nell’arco di un giro, ma costretto a inseguire per tutto il resto della gara un leader davvero ispirato, a cui rimane comunque sempre vicinissimo. Terzo, più staccato rispetto ai primi due, è Rashid Al Dhaheri (Parolin/TM Racing), che guadagna punti preziosi in ottica campionato. Meno brillante appare, invece, William Macintyre (Parolin/TM Racing), per lo meno fino alla finale dove, poi, si riscatta guadagnando 16 posizioni e chiudendo 5° dietro a Tsolov. ADRIA KARTING RACEWAY [ ITALY ]

The Adria Karting Raceway located in Adria is a relatively newer international karting circuit as it obtained the CIK-FIA homologation in 2014. Part of a large complex which includes a racetrack, it is equipped with a technologically advanced lighting system that allows the use of the track at night. Circuito di karting internazionale relativamente giovane, l’Adria Karting Raceway ha ricevuto l’omologazione CIK-FIA nel 2014. Inserito in un ampio complesso nel quale è presente anche un autodromo, è dotato di un sofisticato impianto di illuminazione che consente di utilizzare la pista anche di notte.

TENDER IS THE NIGHT

The last and decisive round of the WSK Euro Series takes place in a rather unusual setting. Not under the sun’s rays but under the spotlights that illuminate the darkness. A new experience that, while not altering the situation, provides the race an unusual characteristic and requires teams and drivers to take a different approach which could also affect the final outcome and victory. This is not a new type of event, neither for WSK Promotion nor for Adria. In fact, in 2015 and 2016, the WSK Night Edition was held here. A single race competition which, as the name implies, took place at night.

L’ultimo e decisivo round della WSK Euro Series si corre in una cornice piuttosto insolita: non sotto i raggi del sole, ma alla luce dei riflettori che rischiarano l’oscurità della notte. Una novità che, pur non stravolgendo la situazione, regala alla gara una caratteristica insolita e richiede a team e piloti un approccio diverso che potrebbe anche incidere sulla vittoria finale. Non si tratta, tuttavia, di una novità assoluta, né per WSK Promotion né per Adria: qui, infatti, nel 2015 e nel 2016, si è corsa la WSK Night Edition, competizione in gara unica che, come facilmente intuibile dal nome, si correva proprio in notturna.

Are the numbers in Italy (especially the economic ones) going down lately? Just turn to karting and the trend is immediately reversed! In the third round of the WSK Euro Series a race in Lonato on the 23rd of June, the drivers verified in the four categories, MINI, OKJ, OK and KZ2 reached its quota of 297! A record number, second only to the 336 registered drivers for round 2 of the 2019 Master Series (also in Lonato) which once again highlights how WSK Promotion races are thriving and truly have an incredible international appeal, especially considering that in Lonato all five Continents had at least one representative in the race.

In Italia i numeri (soprattutto quelli economici) ultimamente vanno verso il basso? Basta rivolgersi al karting e il trend si inverte immediatamente: nel terzo appuntamento della WSK Euro Series, corso a Lonato lo scorso 23 giungo, i piloti verificati nelle quattro categorie MINI, OKJ, OK e KZ2 hanno toccato quota 297! Un numero da record, secondo solo ai 336 registrati per il round 2 della master Series 2019 (sempre a Lonato), che sottolinea una volta di più come le gare WSK Promotion godano di ottima salute e siano un richiamo davvero internazionale, visto che a Lonato tutti e cinque i Continenti avevano in pista almeno un proprio rappresentante.

With the Adria race, the WSK Euro Series 2019 goes to the karting archive, yet the WSK Promotion does not stop and is already looking towards the upcoming events. The first one will be the WSK Open Cup which will be held in a double event on October 27th in Lonato and on November 10th in Castelletto di Branduzzo. Then, on November 17th, at the Adria Karting Raceway it will be the turn of the traditional WSK Final Cup, a symbolic curtain that closes an exceptional karting year.

Con la gara di Adria la WSK Euro Series 2019 va in archivio, ma WSK Promotion non si ferma e già guarda ai prossimi eventi in programma.
