Could it be that Steve McQueen was speaking about the WSK? Obviously not, but he nailed it. The sense of the Series that today is gathered in Castelletto di Branduzzo is precisely this: racing. Taking rivals on to feel the thrill of adrenalin, the speed of overtakes, the joy of flying past the checkered flag. For real drivers, anything that comes before stepping on track is a long wait. A wait made of training, sacrifice, projects, hard work… a whole lot of doing that finds its sense and completion the moment the red lights turn off and the only sound fi lling the air is the rumble of engines. And for those of us who organize the WSK it’s no different, after all: we make plans, we get things ready, we invest, we work with all the energy and enthusiasm we are capable of, to be in the best of shape when it’s time to hit the track. That’s where the waiting ends and racing begins!

Possibile che Steve McQueen stesse parlando della WSK? Ovviamente no, però ha colto nel segno: il senso della Serie che oggi approda a Castelletto di Branduzzo è proprio quello di gareggiare. Di sfidare l’avversario per vivere il gusto dell’adrenalina, la velocità del sorpasso, la gioia della bandiera a scacchi. Per un pilota vero, tutto quello che viene prima di scendere in pista è una lunga attesa. Attesa fatta di allenamenti, sacrifici, progetti, lavoro… tutte operazioni necessarie che trovano senso e compimento nel momento in cui si spengono i semafori rossi e l’unico rumore che rimane è quello del rombo di motori. E per noi, che la WSK la organizziamo, in fondo, vale lo stesso: si pianifica, si progetta, si investe, si lavora con tutta l’energia e l’entusiasmo che si può, per arrivare al meglio al momento di scendere in pista. Lì, l’attesa finisce, e comincia la gara!

REPORT - MINI

SURPRISE WINNER The winner of the final was totally (or almost) unexpected. In fact, it was Maciej Szysko (Tony Kart/LKE) who claimed the top spot in the 1st round at the Napoli International Circuit. The Polish driver spent most of the weekend more or less in the shadows, then, when heavy rain hit the track for the final, he decided it was time to shine. He pounced ahead in the early phases after the start and managed to skillfully grab the lead. And he never let go of it, keeping command of the field and holding the pack of chasers well at bay until the end. Second place went to David Valdes (FA Kart/LKE), author of an incredible weekend-long climb (after terrible qualifyings), while Skeed (Top Kart/Parilla) rounded off the final podium.

A vincere la finale è il pilota che non ti aspetti (o che aspetti meno). È, infatti, Maciej Szysko (Tony Kart/LKE) a posizionarsi al 1° posto nel I round che si è corso al Circuito Internazionale Napoli. Il polacco è protagonista di un week end quasi nella penombra e poi, quando in finale cade la pioggia, lui decide di essere più splendente che mai. Con una zampata messa a segno nelle prime fasi della partenza, si porta con merito in testa alla corsa. Riesce poi a confermare la posizione fino al traguardo, senza permettere che venga mai messa a repentaglio dagli inseguitori. Secondo David Valdes (FA Kart/LKE), autore di un crescendo incredibile per tutto il week end (pessime le sue qualifiche), e terzo Skeed (Top Kart/Parilla).

REPORT - KFJ

HARD-EARNED WIN Rain, a lot of it. Track conditions could have jeopardized the values that were on field for the weekend, but in the end it was Daniel Ticktum (Zanardi/Parilla) who took the win, confirming the great takings collected all along the Neapolitan weekend. It took a tough fight, though. In fact, Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart/TM) jumped into the top spot at the start and held the lead for several laps before Ticktum managed to take over. The Baby Race driver did a good job, after that, of holding on to his well-deserved second place all the way to the finish-line. The third spot went to Enaam Ahmed (FA Kart/Vortex) who bested the pack of drivers fighting to catch up to the lead duo.

Pioggia, ma veramente tanta. Le condizioni dell’asfalto potevano anche rimettere in gioco i valori del week end, ma alla fine è Daniel Ticktum (Zanardi/Parilla) a vincere. L’inglese conferma quanto di buono ha fatto lungo tutto il periodo della 3 giorni campana. Il successo però è stato sudato. Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart/TM) scatta, infatti, in testa alla partenza rimanendo in prima posizione per diversi giri, alla fine però quello che sarà il vincitore riesce a passarlo. L’italiano della Baby Race conserverà comunque il più che meritato secondo posto. Terzo troviamo Enaam Ahmed (FA Kart/Vortex) che nella bagarre alle spalle del duo di testa riesce alla fine a primeggiare.

The Napoli International Circuit welcomed a grand total of 210 drivers representing 32 countries from all 5 continents. The main feature of the first round of the WSK Super Master Series in Sarno was precisely the international nature of participation. Despite attendance from all over the globe, “only” seven nations (Poland, Spain, Italy, UK, Russia, Netherlands, and France) shared the 12 podium spots available across the four categories on track. In an imaginary “nations cup”, the UK would be the winner: drivers from the Kingdom, in fact, claimed the first and third steps of the KFJ podium and second place honors in KF. Another defining feature of the Sarno weekend was the drastic change in weather conditions, with downpours playing a key role in Sunday’s finals. The skies had been generous all along, then let loose for the decisive match, but rather than hindering the competition, the wet track added another unexpected element to the great show.

GALLERY SUPER MASTER SERIES ROUND 1

Al Circuito Internazionale Napoli sono stati ben 210 i piloti partecipanti, provenienti da 32 paesi in rappresentanza dei 5 continenti. Il primo round della WSK Super Master Series ha, infatti, avuto nell’internazionalità il suo elemento principale. Sul podio, nonostante la globalità degli intervenuti, sono state “solo” sette le nazioni rappresentate (Polonia, Spagna, Italia, Gran Bretagna, Russia, Olanda, Francia) su un totale di 12 piazzamenti. Ipotizzando un simbolico “medagliere”, è la Gran Bretagna la nazione più titolata. I piloti di sua Maestà hanno collezionato un primo e un terzo posto nella categoria KFJ e un secondo nella KF. Altra componente, in questo caso atmosferica, che ha segnato prepotentemente le finali della domenica è stata la pioggia. Per tutta la durata del week end il tempo è stato buono. Poi, proprio nella gara decisiva, ecco arrivare l’acqua. La pista bagnata, però, non è stata affatto un deterrente, bensì un nuovo elemento capace di alimentare lo spettacolo.

REPORT - KF

RAINMEN AND CONFIRMATIONS Karol Basz (Tony Kart/Vortex) took the win, giving a sign that in this first half of the season he is probably the one to beat in KF. Behind him, the battle was wild and in the end, pass after pass, it was Callum Ilott (Zanardi/Parilla) who had his way to the runner-up spot. The last step of the podium went to a surprising Nikita Mazepin (Tony Kart/ Vortex): an unexpected result, but that he more than earned. Especially if we consider that several competitors fell victim to the rain, including 2013 world champions Tom Joyner (Zanardi/ Parilla) and Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart/TM). After conquering pole position, Indian driver Jeahan Daruvala (FA Kart/Vortex) also fell behind due to a race contact.

Karol Basz (Tony Kart/Vortex) vince la KF dimostrando, probabilmente, di essere il pilota da inseguire in questa prima parte di stagione. Dietro di lui la lotta è molto concitata. Alla fine, in seconda posizione è Callum Ilott (Zanardi/ Parilla), sorpasso dopo sorpasso, ad avere la meglio. L’ultimo gradino del podio va, invece, a Nikita Mazepin (Tony Kart/Vortex): risultato inatteso, ma sicuramente meritato. Anche in questa categoria la pioggia miete vittime, come, ad esempio, i campioni del mondo 2013 Tom Joyner (Zanardi/Parilla) e Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart/TM). Anche l’indiano Jeahan Daruvala (FA Kart/Vortex), in pole position nelle qualifiche, rimane piuttosto dietro a causa di un contatto.

REPORT - KZ2

A LONG WAY TO THE TOP It took a while for the KZ2 winner (and his team) to find the right set-up, but in the end he stepped into the role of conqueror and skillfully triumphed in the feature race. Bas Lammers (FK/Parilla), this is the name of the Sarno king of the shifter class. The Dutchman worked hard for this victory and more than earned it, working his way up all weekend long until he reached the top step of the podium. Joining him in second place at the end was Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex): the Italian met bad luck early on, falling prey to aggressive “colleagues”, but then did a great job of (almost) catching up to the winner. The top 3 was rounded off by Arnaud Kozlinski (Intrepid/ TM), whose great speed resulted in the best lap of the race.

Il vincitore della KZ2 ha impiegato un po’ a trovare (insieme al suo racing team) l’assetto giusto, alla fine però ha indossato i panni del dominatore, trionfando con grande capacità nella gara decisiva. Bas Lammers (FK/Parilla), è questo il nome del numero uno della categoria a marce. L’olandese è cresciuto durante il week end, conquistando con merito il gradino più alto del podio. Secondo posto per Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex): l’italiano è sfortunato all’inizio, quando subisce la troppa irruenza di alcuni “colleghi”, poi però è bravissimo a rimontare e arrivare proprio alle spalle del vincitore. Terzo, invece, Arnaud Kozlinski (Intrepid/ TM), capace anche di fare il best lap della finale.
