Many will think: “What, Muro Leccese again?”. Yes! We are here again, at the La Conca Circuit. We are in the place where everything started many (not too many) years ago to give this 2014 WSK Super Master Series a grand finale. And we will be back here soon, for the start of the much awaited event of the season, the CIK-FIA Europeans. So, yes, the curves are and will be the same “old” ones of this familiar track by the gorgeous shores of south Italy; but, as the philosophers of Ancient Greece already knew, there is no risk to relive the same feats and moments. The first corner will always be the same; but it will also be different each time, because fruit of the experience of each driver: of the moves, defeats, and victories that make each race unique. As Heraclitus would say if he was one of us: “ever-newer races flow for those who step onto the same track.” Here, at La Conca, in Muro Leccese.

Eraclito Molti penseranno: “Ma come, di nuovo a Muro Leccese?”. Sì! Siamo di nuovo qui, al Circuito La Conca. Siamo nel luogo da cui tutto è partito tanti (ma non troppi) anni fa, per chiudere alla grande questa WSK Super Master Series 2014. E sempre qui si tornerà tra poco per il via dell’Europeo CIK-FIA, attesissimo appuntamento della stagione. Le curve, quindi, sono e saranno sempre quelle, oramai ben note, del kartodromo a due passi dal mare del sud Italia; ma, come era noto già ai fi losofi greci, non c’è pericolo di ripetere gesti e momenti. La prima curva sarà sempre la stessa; ma sarà anche, ogni volta, diversa, perché figlia del vissuto di ciascun pilota: delle esperienze, sconfitte e vittorie che rendono ogni prova unica. Come direbbe Eraclito se fosse dei “nostri”: “gare sempre nuove scorrono per coloro che s’immergono nella stessa pista”. Qui, a La Conca, Muro Leccese.

F4: HABEMUS TATUUS! ...SHAKE DOWN IN VAIRANO The Italian Formula 4 Championship is shaping up towards the inaugural round in Adria on June 8th: the first collective tests are scheduled for May 16th in Adria and July 22nd in Vallelunga in the meantime the vehicle has already hit the track. The single-seater that will star in the brand new category series is produced by Tatuus and “debuted” on April 14th at the Vairano circuit, rolling on track for the first time. The “shake down” was performed by Raffaele Giammaria, Director of the ACI-CSAI Federal School, who provided Tatuus technicians with a frame of reference to start from on the way to defining the right set-up for Pirelli tires. In terms of manufacturing features, as illustrated by Tatuus managers Gianfranco De Bellis and Artico Sandonà and the engineers of Autotecnica Motori & Magneti Marelli, the new Tatuus F4 is beatufully crafted single-seater, designed and developed specifically to “train” future generations of drivers. The carbon fiber chassis is equipped with an Abarth 414-F4 engine, a 1400 cc motor, superpowered by 160 HP at 5500 rpm, which will be fueled by Panta. The engine unit couples with a Sadev sequential gearbox with “push/ pull” electric starter by Magneti Marelli and hand-controlled by steering-wheel levers. In short, a high-tech vehicle for young talents on top. Formula 4: the start is getting close and anticipation keeps growing!

L’Italian Formula 4 Championship prende sempre più forma in vista della gara d’esordio ad Adria, a calendario per l’8 giugno: i primi test collettivi si terranno, infatti, ad Adria il 16 maggio e il 22 luglio a Vallelunga, intanto la vettura è gia scesa in pista. La monoposto protagonista della nuovissima categoria è marchiata Tatuus e ha “debuttato” il 14 aprile scorso presso il circuito di Vairano. Lo “shake down” è stato effettuato da Raffaele Giammaria, Direttore della Scuola Federale ACI-CSAI, che ha fornito ai tecnici Tatuus i primi riferimenti di collaudo per trovare l’assetto ideale in funzione degli pneumatici Pirelli. In termini di caratteristiche costruttive, come evidenziato dai dirigenti Tatuus Gianfranco De Bellis e Artico Sandonà e dagli ingegneri di Autotecnica Motori & Magneti Marelli, la nuova Tatuus F4 è una monoposto dall’ottima fattura realizzativa, studiata appositamente per “addestrare” le future generazioni di piloti. Sul telaio in fibra di carbonio è installato il motore Abarth 414-F4, un 1400 cc super-potenziato da 160 CV a 5500 giri, che sarà alimentato da carburante Panta. L’unità motrice si accoppia al cambio sequenziale Sadev, dotato di attuatore elettrico Magneti Marelli di tipo “push/pull” e comandato da leve al volante. Insomma, una vettura high-tech per giovani talenti al top. Formula 4: lo start si avvicina e l’attesa cresce!

MISTAKES COST There’s an Italian proverb that goes like this: when two fight, the third one laughs. If you apply it to the final of the II round of the WSK Super Master Series you get the outcome of the race. The winner, infact, is Muizzudin Abdul Gafar (Hero/LKE), who took advantage of a contact between Nicola Abrusci (Tony Kart/LKE) and Antonio Serravalle (Tony Kart/LKE). The duo ran 1-2 until the penultimate lap, when their karts got “hooked”together, as Serravalle tried to overtake the race leader. As the two dropped to fourth and fifth, “Muizz” flew off to win the race, dragging along Makar Mizevych (Tony Kart/ LKE) and Christian Cobellini (Top Kart/Parilla), who rounded off the podium placing respectively second and third.

Conoscete il proverbio “tra i due litiganti il terzo gode?” Ecco, applicatelo alla finale del II round della WSK Super Master Series e otterrete il risultato. A vincere, infatti, è Muizzudin Abdul Gafar (Hero/LKE) che ha approfittato di un contatto tra Nicola Abrusci (Tony Kart/LKE) e Antonio Serravalle (Tony Kart/LKE). I due piloti erano, infatti, in prima e seconda posizione, fino al penultimo giro, quando si sono letteralmente “agganciati”, mentre l’uno cercava di superare l’altro, scivolando in quarta e quinta posizione. A beneficiarne, come detto, “Muizz” ma anche Makar Mizevych (Tony Kart/LKE) e Christian Cobellini (Top Kart/Parilla) che hanno completato il podio conquistando, rispettivamente, il secondo e il terzo gradino.

SPEEDY BAIZ! Mauricio Baiz (Exprit/Vortex) did a lot of preseason training on the Castelletto track, which explains why he is ultra-fast as early as the qualifyings, claiming the pole position. By the time he gets to the final, all the Venezuelan can do is reconfirm the performance displayed all weekend, with a triumphant race that is never threatened by his rivals’ attacks. In second position there is Mick Junior (Tony Kart/Vortex), author of a great crescendo all round long and, most importantly, on the first podium of his international career. The third step, instead, goes to Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart/TM), who manages to overtake and get ahead of the day’s “surprise” Davide Lombardo (Exprit/Vortex).

Mauricio Baiz (Exprit/Vortex), nella pista di Castelletto di Branduzzo, si è allenato parecchio. Per questo motivo sin dalle qualifiche va velocissimo ottenendo la pole position. Il venezuelano quando arriva la finale può solo ribadire quello che di buono ha fatto vedere per tutto il week end. Una trionfo che non è mai stato messo a repentaglio dagli attacchi avversari. In seconda posizione Mick Junior (Tony Kart/Vortex) autore di una gara in crescendo e, soprattutto, al primo podio in carriera a livello internazionale. Terzo posto conquistato invece da Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart/TM) che con un sorpasso ha la meglio sulla “sorpresa” di giornata Davide Lombardo (Exprit/Vortex).

The great thing about this second round of the WSK Super Master Series was the very balanced nature of the “battle field”. True, some drivers kept incredible speed all weekend long and so won by merit, as expected and as deserved. The amazing thing, though, was the surprise factor that characterized the whole event: rookies performing like veterans, incredible rebounds that nobody would have bet on, and overtakes that would be hard to believe in, if we hadn’t seen them with our very eyes. All this is a sign that karting is growing, in both organizational and competitive terms. And this seems to be benefitting everyone all around: from spectators who keep filling the sands in greater numbers race after race, to industry operators who can’t do much else but improve their production offer, all the way to simple fans like us, who can only celebrate and enjoy the spectacle of every great race weekend, like this last one at the / Laghi Kart Track in Castelletto di Branduzzo. Long live karting!

Il bello di questo II round della WSK Super Master Series è che la “lotta” in pista è stata veramente equilibrata. Ci sono stati, è vero, piloti veloci per tutta la durata del week end e che, quindi, hanno vinto con merito. Quello che però colpisce sono le continue sorprese. Esordienti che si comportano come veterani, rimonte incredibili su cui nessuno avrebbe scommesso e, perfino, sorpassi che se non visti con questi occhi non avremmo mai creduto possibili. Il karting sta crescendo, sia dal punto di vista organizzativo sia da quello dell’agonismo. A beneficiarne un po’ tutti: dagli spettatori che sono, gara dopo gara, sempre più numerosi sugli spalti; agli operatori di settore che non possono fare altro se non migliorare le proprie produzioni; fino ad arrivare a noi, semplici appassionati, che in ogni appuntamento - proprio come questo appena disputato a Castelletto di Branduzzo - possiamo solo compiacerci e goderci l’avvincentissimo spettacolo. Lunga vita al karting!

REPORT - KF

QUALITY ON TRACK All Jeahn Daruvala (Fa Kart/Vortex) needed were two race weekends in KF to understand that being a class rookie is not a problem. The Indian driver wins the Round 2 final driving like a veteran. That the kid has talent is a known fact and, compared to the past, when he was perhaps a bit too impulsive, he is now proving to be wonderfully mature. Gabriel Aubry (Tony Kart/Vortex) is the one who crossing the finish-line behind him: the French driver was incredibly unlucky in the heats, where, despite good speed, he was constantly victim of unexpected glitches; only a miracle could have helped him rise back up and, well, he made it happen. Karol Basz (Tony Kart/Vortex) rounds off the podium and with this result secures his leadership in the championship standings.

A Jeahn Daruvala (Fa Kart/Vortex), sono bastate appena due gare in KF per far capire che il suo essere un esordiente non è affatto un problema. Il pilota indiano vince una finale dove guida come se fosse un veterano. Il ragazzo, d’altronde, ha talento da vendere e, rispetto al passato, dove era forse un po’ troppo impulsivo, ora dimostra di aver raggiunto una bellissima maturità. Dietro di lui arriva Gabriel Aubry (Tony Kart/Vortex), questo pilota francese è sfortunatissimo durante le manche dove, nonostante sia veloce, è sempre vittima di imprevisiti. Serviva un miracolo per rimontare. Che dire? È avvenuto. Chiude il podio Karol Basz (Tony Kart/Vortex) che con questo altro piazziamento è il leader di classifica generale.

ARDIGÒ...NER! Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Bas Lammers (FK/Parilla) started their duel in the heats, proving they were the couple to beat. When Sunday came, they tune was still the same. In the final the start played a key role: here the Tony Kart driver managed to protect the leadership conquered in the pre-final phase. Not only, his pounce ahead allowed him to secure the lead all the way to the checkerd flag, with Lammers chasing after him. His expert victory, however, does not settle the score, since the Ardigò-Lammers duo is still ranking 1-2 in the championship chart, just ten points apart. Paolo De Conto(Birel/TM) rounded off the Castelletto podium, after offering spectators and rivals a great show with a couple of insane overtakes.

Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex) e Bas Lammers (FK/Parilla) hanno lottato sin dalle manche, dimostrando di essere la coppia di piloti da battere. Quando è arrivata la domenica, quindi, l’andamento non è certo mutato. In finale fondamentale è stata la partenza, dove il pilota della Tony Kart è riuscito a proteggere la leadership ottenuta in pre finale e confermarla fino allo sventolio della bandiera a scacchi. Una vittoria d’esperienza che però non chiude i giochi in classifica generale dove, sempre Ardigò e Lammers, sono in prima e seconda posizione con soli dieci punti di differenza.
