Welcome to our new DanceXchange season, bringing the best dance from around the world to The Patrick Centre, Birmingham Hippodrome. Following on from the huge success of the first International Dance Festival Birmingham earlier this year, this season sees some familiar faces return, alongside some companies visiting us for the first time. The Season begins with a new double-bill by DanceXchange Associate Artist, Rosie Kay Dance Company. Rosie will be presenting a new work, Supernova (which features a fantastic cast of five female dancers) alongside her recent International Dance Festival Birmingham commission, Double Points: K. October sees us welcoming Jasmin Vardimon Company with its new show, Yesterday, featuring some of the most celebrated moments from the company’s work. Next up are some more old friends, 2FaCeD Dance Company. Most recently seen in Birmingham as part of the amazing Watch this Space event in Victoria Square, 2FaCeD is coming to

Birmingham after a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival with State of Matter. In what’s becoming something of a tradition for DanceXchange, November brings Flamenco to the Patrick Centre. This year we’re really excited to welcome Jesús Fernández, a highly acclaimed artist with Pura Emoción. As usual, we’ll also be offering our range of Flamenco workshops to accompany the performance. Finally for the Autumn we have the wonderful Vincent S.K Mantsoe from South Africa. Vincent brings his unique style to The Patrick Centre in the shape of his compelling and stirring new solo, Ebhofolo. Don’t forget you can book all the shows online at www.dancexchange.org.uk/shows

We look forward to seeing you this season! Paul Burns Acting Programme Manager, DanceXchange

Jesús Fernández (SPAIN)

PURA EMOCIÓN Saturday 15 November // 8pm In this passionate flamenco performance, Jesús expresses the human struggle to overcome the control that emotion has over us. This journey begins with an exploration of the nature of emotion itself: how it feels to be subjected to its high and lows, the often absurd situations we find ourselves in once the emotional impulse disappears, and the emotional traps we lay along the way. El sinvivir se va a acabar - without emotion, life cannot be lived... Jesús has won several dance awards in his home country for both his performance and choreography. This new show promises to be a fantastic evening of fiery Spanish music and dance. WORKSHOPS We’re holding sessions in flamenco dance and singing for all levels during this weekend, taught by Jesús and Ana Garcia. For more information contact Ana on 0121 240 7828 or email promoagm@blueyonder.co.uk.

EBHOFOLO

INCLUDES

POST SHOW TALK

Thursday 4 December // 8pm Vincent’s choreography draws from and challenges the ideas that surround us daily, making us who we are. In this brand new solo work, he takes inspiration from the structure of traditional African homesteads; built to create space and a sense of nature, but also to reflect interpersonal relations between the inhabitants and their ancestors. Ebhofolo (“this madness”) looks at the ways in which the nature of people is related to their lifestyle and the spaces of their homes, inherited since childbirth. In creating this piece, Vincent finds expressions in dance for the relationship between yesterday, today and tomorrow.
