USTRC Lasso del Sol
D
espite the freezing temperatures and Interstate closures that plagued Arizona New Year’s Weekend, team ropers from 24 different states and Canada managed to make their way to the Westworld Equestrian Center in Scottsdale for this years Lasso Del Sol event. At stake was more than $150,000 in cash and prizes as the USTRC staff gave a warm welcome to those willing to endure the frigid air and winter conditions. One young team roper who enjoyed some success was 15-year-old Cole
Sherwood from Gilbert, Arizona. The youngster began by winning the overall fast time of the #12 Division with professional trick roper Rider Kiesner. They were 5.96 seconds to accomplish the feat. Sherwood then placed first in the Incentive Average and fifth in the main Average with his cousin Megan. They finished the roping with a time of 38.71 seconds on four steers. The Sherwood duo won $1,908, trophy Gist buckles and $4,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. In the #11 Division Sherwood teamed up
with his sister, Cheyenne and cousin, Megan to finish second and seventh in the Average. Cheyenne and Cole were 34.84 seconds and won $3,353, trophy Gist buckles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Megan and Cole finished seventh. Forty-six-year-old Salvador Flores from Buckeye, Arizona won the most money at the Lasso Del Sol. He and his partners took home $10,390 in cash, four trophy Martin saddles and $12,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. He only competed with his kids and his neighbor. continued on page 2
