T

he Southwest Regional Finals made the move this year from Albuquerque, New Mexico across the state to Clovis, New Mexico. It was a positive move and ropers enjoyed a refreshing new venue as the Curry County Special Events Center rolled out the red carpet for the USTRC and its members. The event began with the Open Division and it welcomed a field of world class team ropers to do battle in the arena. Josh Morris from Lazbuddie, Texas and Brandon Gonzales from Bosque, New Mexico came from the third call back position and roped their final steer in 6.70 seconds bringing their total on five steers to 36.63 seconds. That was good enough to land them first place. They received $5,000, trophy leather rope bags and 20 points for the US Open tour. “We really drew some good steers today and

had things go our way,” said Morris. “It was a really good roping.” “Yes it was,” echoed Gonzales “There were some really tough ropers entered and today things went our way.” Second place went to Quincy Kueckelhan and Kaleb Driggers. They came from seventh call back and finished the roping with a time of 37.19 seconds on five. Third place went to Speed Williams and Patrick Smith. Clay Lewis from Clovis, New Mexico and Jed Middleton from Wolfforth, Texas won the Incentive Average. The #15 was next and the young guns team of Lane Ivy and Logan Medlin took the top honors. They were 32.38 seconds on four steers and took home trophy leather rope bags, $2,778, and $8,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second was the father/son team of Rand and Ethan Cory from Hico, Texas. Beverly Robbins from Alabama teamed up with Lane Siggins from New Mexico to finish third place. It was time for the big money of the #15 Shoot-Out. Bode Baize teamed up with Calvin Taylor. They qualified to the short round in the sixth call back position. They finished the roping with a time of 39.21 seconds on five steers. The team earned $5,082, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. “We really didn’t do anything fancy, we just caught them all,” said Taylor. “It was a good roping and I am super excited about the win.” Second place was Shane Sena and Roy Montoya both from New Mexico. They received $3,048 and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Third place was Reno Eddy and Kaleb Driggers. The second day of the Southwest Regional Finals began in fine form. The first roping of the day was the #13 Preliminary. The team of Aaron Macy from Post, Texas and Randy Sanchez from Jarales, New Mexico finished first place from the tenth call back position. Second place went to the father/son team of Ryder and Colton Lee with a time of 35.41 seconds on four steers. Tanner Batenhorst and Brent Ivy finished in third place. The real excitement came in the #13 ShootOut where the team of Javier Chavez Minguer and Brandon Baca teamed up to win first place in the Average. They took home $10,000 trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Katey Anthony and Lane Siggins and third place was Monroe Timberlake and Monty Wood. The #12 Gold Plus came right down to the

wire. Tyler Riggan from Snyder, Texas teamed up with Taylor Pettigrew from Tatum, New Mexico. They were the high team back and finished the roping with a clean run and a four steer total of 29.24 seconds. That landed them first place in the Average. They received trophy leather rope bags, Resistol hats, Tony Lama boots, Cinch jeans, $9,752, plus $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place went to Tina Godfrey and Cody Wilson and third place was Lance Crist and Joe Hughes. The team of Stacy Kropik and Cavin Jacobs won the Incentive Average and Walt Arnold and Kress Jones were the Century Bonus Champions. Katey Anthony and Ryan Sanders won the Incentive Average of the #12 Preliminary and qualified to the short round in the number one call back position. The third high team back of Kenny Martinez from Portales, New Mexico and Justin Price from Laveta, Colorado roped their final steer in 7.10 seconds and went into the lead of the roping with a time of 33.29 seconds on four steers. When it was all said and done they were the champions of the roping. Martinez and Price took home $4,776, trophy Martin saddles and $8,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second was Walt and Reno Eddy from Gallup New Mexico. Third place went to Larry Hendricks and Billy Ivy. Kurt Kiehne from Hereford, Texas teamed up with Brad Good from Clovis, New Mexico and the two calf ropers qualified to the short round of the #12 Shoot-Out in the number one position. They were 8.03 on their final steer and secured first place in the Average with a time of 32.09 seconds on four steers. The win gave the team trophy Martin saddles, $10,000, and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place went to Trevor Hedeman from Morgan Mill, Texas and Brent Ivy from Amarillo, Texas. The third place finishers were Walt Eddy and Wesley Thorp. The hometown team of Michael Bell and Ryan Figg teamed up to win the Average of the #11 Preliminary. They finished the roping with a time of 32.27 seconds on four steers. The win paid them $4,660, trophy Martin saddles and $8,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place went to Nicky Delgado and Chance Gomez and third place was Bill Rasberry and Blake Williamson. The team of Vincente Guerrero and Cavin Jacobs won the Incentive Average.
