Viper™ - First Five-Strand Calf Rope

Rattler Ropes bring you the Viper, the first five-strand calf rope with a core. What happens when five strands of low stretch poly fibers are woven around a solid braided core? You get a rope with 6 • MARCH 2010

speed and snap as quick as a viper’s strike, but with more consistency and less stretch than any calf rope on the market today. With the feel of your favorite poly-grass and the strength and stability that only core-tech can give, you won’t break this rope. And, like a viper, it’s the same every time…Deadly accurate. To feel it for yourself, go to www.classicropes.com or find a dealer in your area.

Master Saddles Fast Forward Tree Technology Master Saddles is proud to introduce their new Fast Forward™ tree technology. The Fast Forward system combines proven physics and science with all the comfort and fit you’ve come to expect in a Master Saddle. The Fast Forward system, through its proprietary ground seat design, cantle height and precisely angled swells, allows the rider to quickly and naturally get into a comfortable forward position–out over the horse’s front shoulders only moments after leaving the box. This fluid, natural, forward position allows the roper to make his throw quicker and more accurately than those having to force themselves forward in traditional saddles. The swell angle is engineered to guide the rope into the optimal dally position with very little effort. Each break in motion and direction during a run takes time, especially if the motion being made isn’t

the desired one and has to be compensated for. This system is specifically designed to eliminate all unneeded motion, remove strain from the rider and horse, and provide the most fluid, natural and stable position to deliver your rope. Get forward fast by ordering your Fast Forward tree in the saddle of your choice today. The Fast Forward system is now included standard in most Master Saddles roping saddles and can even be ordered into trophy saddles for your next event. For more information contact Master Saddles directly at: 940/626-8408; mastersaddles.com

Fast Back Ropes introduces four-strand calf rope The Edge

After a year in development Fast Back Ropes is excited to make their new four-strand calf rope available February 1, 2010. This new rope, aptly named the Edge, is a white poly four-strand calf rope made from 100% American made texturized poly fiber. “The Edge is the four-strand companion to our popular three-strand calf rope, the Iron Silk, but with the fourstrand characteristics that appeal to the four-strand ropers,” says Al Benson, Fast Back General Manager. This rope stays true in all weather conditions, is extremely durable and after they are broken in there is very little stretch. The Edge is a low maintenance rope that is smooth and quick with a lot of action. “I have roped over 100 calves with my new Edge,” says Jerome Schneeberger, “and the rope is still holding up and ready to use. I throw it on the ground in the barn, winter or summer, and when I’m ready to rope the next day I just put it on my saddle and go rope.” Tested and tweaked in all weather conditions by ropers of all levels during development, this new rope has been put to the test and passed with flying colors.

Power Service Products The new official sponsor of seven time all-around rodeo champion Trevor Brazile

Power Service Products, the nation’s leading manufacturer of diesel fuel additives, is proud to announce that it will begin the first of a three-year professional sponsorship of rodeo champion Trevor Brazile in 2010. “The Trevor Brazile sponsorship is a natural fit for Power Service. Our products are widely used in the agriculture, farm

and ranch industries,” says Mandy Kramer Storm, Vice President of Marketing for Power Service Products. “Trevor was a logical choice to help promote our brand to these important markets. As the number one selling diesel fuel additive, we want to be associated with the number one star in one of America’s premier sports.” For the sponsorship effort, Power Service Products will be launching several promotional campaigns with Brazile, including special appearances on behalf of the company, as well as in-store events where Power Service products are sold. Some of the company’s products include: Diesel Fuel Supplement® +Cetane Boost® is the product to use for winter operability. This superior antigel prevents fuel from gelling to -40ºF to keep your diesel engine running trouble-free all winter long. Additionally, Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost keeps fuel injectors clean and boosts cetane up to 4 numbers for faster cold starts and a smoother running engine. Diesel Kleen® +Cetane Boost® is a concentrated formula of cetane, detergents and lubricity additives for optimal engine performance in the nonwinter months. It boosts your power, reducing the need for downshifting during high-load conditions. It helps your engine run smoother with less power lag and faster cold starts and it can increase your MPG up to 8 percent. Because diesel fuel deteriorates when stored for more than 90 days, Power Service developed Clear-Diesel® Fuel & Tank Cleaner +PetroFresh® to disperse fuel contaminants and stabilize fuel for longterm storage. Fuel tanks stay cleaner and fuel-filters last longer with Clear-Diesel, which removes water and protects against fuel tank corrosion. Clear-Diesel® Fuel & Tank Cleaner is an advanced fuel tank cleaning technology that has been proven effective in agricultural applications. ClearDiesel can be used as a vital part of any preventive maintenance program or for immediate clean-up of equipment or fuel storage tanks. For additional information about Power Service products and the company’s sponsorship of Trevor Brazile, please visit their Web site: www.powerservice.com.

Cactus Saddlery Trevor Brazile’s Relentless Team Roping Saddle Cactus Saddlery is proud to announce the release of the Trevor Brazile “Relentless” Team Roping Saddle. Since Trevor Brazile’s line of straps and pads debuted in 2008, everyone has been anticipating the release of his saddle line. “Trevor has always worked with custom saddle makers. Our goal with the Relentless Team Roping Saddle was to make a truly custom saddle that you wouldn’t have to wait years to get. We worked together for a year with multiple custom trees, taking the best elements from five to create the final Relentless tree,” said Scott Thomas, General Manager of Cactus Saddlery. He went on to say, “The bars have the perfect amount of flare, which will allow this saddle to fit the majority of horses without rubbing or pinching them.” “After working with custom saddle makers, I know exactly what it takes to make the perfect saddle. My saddle has a narrow ground seat and slopes slightly in the front, which allows you to get in the pocket to rope quickly and maintain control during your swing,” explained Trevor Brazile. The Trevor Brazile Team Roping Saddle will feature the custom Relentless tree, custom Trevor Brazile conchos, an antique finish, custom tooling options (including the Brazile flower), and custom seat options. The Relentless All-Around Roper will be the second saddle released in the Relentless line and will hit stores mid-2010. The Ground Hog-Versatile Ground Tool - Not Just For the Health Of The Horse Any More In 1996, Raymond Lucas took a look at the arena tool that was being used and thought to himself, “I can build one of those, and I can build it better!” Within a few weeks, Lucas had engineered and manufactured the original Ground Hog arena tool! As Raymond groomed the ground of his daughter’s arena, he pondered more and more ways to perfect the tool. Everyone that witnessed the perfect arena soil realized that their horses were safer and running smoother on the consistent, flawlessly conditioned ground. Brazile headlines a cast of stars as the Wrangler Timed Event Championship returns to the Lazy E Arena The Ironman event of ProRodeo will return to the Fabulous Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma on March 5-7, 2010. For over two and a half decades, this one-of-a-kind event has showcased world champions including 6-time WTEC and 11-time PRCA World Champion Trevor Brazile leading a cast of ProRodeo’s most elite cowboys

competing in the most unique event in rodeo – the Wrangler Timed Event Championship (WTEC). The WTEC always features twenty of the world’s best cowboys in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) competing in pro rodeo’s most unique event that is often referred to as “The Ironman” — it is a true test of versatility and stamina. Each contestant is required to compete in all five timed events: tie-down roping, steer roping, heading, heeling and steer wrestling – over five rounds in three days. Each round of competition

Justin Stuckey - $1,000 ‘Strad Energy’ Winner

The Strad Energy $1,000 Bonus Calf roping held last month in Pueblo, Colorado was a hit. Ropers enjoyed having a shot at an extra $1,000 and producer Jr. Peek was happy to see the excitement among all of the ropers. Each Average winner had a shot at the bonus by trying to best the fast time on the same calf posted in their division. In the end, it was Justin Stuckey who was the #2 Average winner from the Sunday event. Congratulations to Justin and the best of luck to the ropers throughout the season who have a chance to win big in Pueblo!

The champion isn’t determined until the last rope is thrown, the flag is dropped and the clock has stopped. amgis Quarter Horses and RanchForeman, Ltd. hosted 44 tiedown ropers and raised over $27,000 at the Namgis Premier Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Fundraiser Tiedown Roping. The first-annual event took place January 30, 2010 at the Namgis Quarter Horses Facility in Hondo, Texas. Proceeds benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Center of South Texas (MSCST) and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and will be used for MS research and patient care. “It’s important to always have high expectations when you get involved in new endeavors. I set the bar high when we began planning the Namgis Premier and am still excited by the outcome,” said Stan Sigman, former CEO of AT&T Mobility and owner of Namgis Quarter Horses. While the event raised money for the charity, it also paid out over $31,000 in cash to the tiedown ropers, as well as awarding a custom-tooled trophy saddle by Cactus Saddlery and a buckle by Hy O Silver. “It’s rare to see this caliber of ropers in South Texas; 26 World Titles and 60 National Finals Rodeo Qualifications were represented by the cowboys who competed at this event,” Sigman said. The roping was made up of two rounds, with the top ten ropers advancing to a short round.

Justin Nulisch won the first round with an 8.64. Cade Swor took the second round with a 7.67. Houston Hutto won the finals with the fastest time of the day of 7.59 seconds. Blake Huckabee was the Average winner with a time of 27.71 seconds on three runs. “Awesome facility, great cattle and added money. I’m not sure what to say other than thanks. There just aren’t many ropings to go to like this anymore,” said Houston Hutto, PRCA cowboy and Namgis Premier Finals Champion. Sigman wanted to give back to his community in a way that spoke to his roots. He teamed up with the owners of RanchForeman, Ltd., a horse business innovation company, and, based on their expertise and personal experience, decided on a calf roping benefiting multiple sclerosis research. “My good friends, James and Tonni O’Brien, have personal experience with Multiple Sclerosis. When they approached me regarding a charitable event to benefit the MS Center of South Texas, I thought it would be a great opportunity to raise awareness for the MS Center as

well as support the great sport of tiedown,” Sigman said. The competition extended to the sponsors as well as the calf ropers. A sponsor was drawn for each roper that qualified for the finals round. Each roper represented a sponsor, and the sponsor got to share in the winnings. Landscape was represented by Average winner Blake Huckabee and won a fully-tooled briefcase that matched the Average winner’s trophy saddle. “We want to thank these generous businesses for getting involved with a first year event. The Namgis Premier surpassed all of our expectations and there is just no way we could have done it without their support,” said James O’Brien of RanchForeman, Ltd. Sponsors include Namgis Quarter Horses, RanchForeman, McCoys, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, Ranch at the Rim, Wood Group, Bisset Ranch Partnership, American Sales & Service, The Koehler Company, Morgan O’Brien Ranch, Burns Nursery and Landscape, Rangel Foundations, Alamo Area Veterinary Clinic, Hondo National Bank, D & D Services, and Texas Ag Finance. MS is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. In the United States today, there are approximately 400,000 people with multiple sclerosis (MS)—with 200 more people diagnosed every week. Worldwide, MS is thought to affect more than 2.5 million people. While the disease is not contagious or directly inherited, epidemiologists—the scientists who study patterns of disease— have identified factors in the distribution of MS around the world that may eventually help determine what causes the disease. These factors include gender, genetics, age, geography, climate, and ethnic background. For post-event information, please visit www.NamgisQuarterHorses.com/ Premier. For more information on how you can contribute to the fight against multiple sclerosis, call Janet Kaufman, Executive Director of MSCST, at 210-691-1245, or visit www.NationalMSSociety.org.

n 1954 Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile. Prior to that scientists had stated that it was physically impossible to run a mile any faster. Once broken, in less than a years time a number of people ran it faster than four minutes. For years the team roping record was 3.5-seconds. It had been tied several times but remained unbroken until the 2009 NFR. Then in the 9th round JoJo Lemond and Randon Adams broke the record with a scalding 3.4second run. They were able to hang on to the world record title for just about two runs until Chad Masters and Jake Corkill came out and were 3.3. When we knock down our own barriers or stretch our limitations, we enable others to break barriers of their own. I have learned that when I don’t reach my potential, there are more people affected than just me. It affects not only my friends and family, but can also affect people I may never meet. In the last couple of months we’ve talked about the importance of setting goals. There are some more steps

in the process. First and foremost you must have a plan. There’s an old saying, if you shoot at nothing, you’ll hit it every time. The second step is that your plan starts with one small step followed by another, then another and another. Third, use what you have right where you are. It’s easy to find excuses for why you are unable to reach your goals. For many people it’s easier to find excuses than it is to take the small steps. Personally I am doing all I can to reach my full potential in hopes that someone else can use my success to expand their horizons. I believe we all have an obligation in this life to do what we're called to do and do it the best we can. I want to be the best I can be in all facets of my life. One of my most important jobs is being a good dad. I know most of what my sons pick up from me is caught, rather than taught. It’s not about doing, its about being. I can teach my sons what I know, but they will catch who I am. Until next time, God Bless and I'll see you down the line.

A special thanks to my sponsors for supporting not only me, but also the sport that lets me do what I love. TM

He Sure Has Great Potential ave you ever read the classifieds when someone is trying to sell a horse that’s never had any actual training? That’s called potential. You may have an idea what he’s good for because of his breeding, but you honestly don’t know what he can “really do.” How many potentially great horses, perhaps world champions, wind up standing in the pasture all P/U Wnever CH VSAgivenINthe HOUSE PROOF their life because they were right chance or opportunity? Some may have been ruined because they wound up in the hands of some wannabe horse trainer and all he knew was how to “whip into submission.” How many people in life have had great potential

H

but for one reason or another, never tapped into the one great area of talent where they could excel? You may from time to time feel insignificant, maybe you got in an abusive situation, or had a Dad that always told you you’d never amount to anything and you believed him. I have good news, Jesus said, “I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly.” The scripture also says, “the devil came to steal, kill, and destroy!” Which boat do you want to get on? Jesus is the answer to any problem you may encounter. Do you just have potential? Or do you have a plan? God bless, and keep looking up, that’s where the answers are.

I

t’s March – That means the weather is turning warmer and I am getting more chances to get outside. I did not think Spring was ever going to get here and cabin-fever was creeping in rather fast. Least to say, I am sure my family is happy to see my backside heading out the door more as I was getting a little grouchy. Really it has not been too rough. We have had a chance to keep busy this winter and I have to say I am a very proud dad. My oldest son Reed who is 6 years old won his first All-Around saddle at a winter Jr. rodeo series. It all came down to the final weekend and he needed all he could get. He finished great and took the win by one point. Man – there is no better feeling than seeing your kid accomplish something. I have to thank John English, a good friend who helped mount us throughout the series. (Oh – by the way, I’m looking for a quality starter rope horse. If you have one for sale, give me a call.) What’s in the news of the calf roping world? Well Trevor Brazile is at it again. He claimed the All-Around titles at both the Denver and Fort Worth PRCA rodeos. He won the Average at Denver and finished second in Fort Worth. No doubt it will be another great year of watching Brazile and the other top ropers compete. I also want to comment on a great event you’ve probably already read about in previous pages. The Namgis Premier Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Fundraiser Tiedown Roping hosted by the Namgis Quarter Horses and RanchForeman, Ltd. was an awesome event and one I hope continues for years to come. A total of 44 ropers competed in Hondo, Texas and helped raise over $27,000 for the MS Center of South Texas. It’s events like these that really make me proud to be part of the sport. Lastly, The USCRA is pumping up the volume so to speak. Events are getting busy all across the country and with warming weather, it’s time to hit the road for ropers everywhere. I wish everyone the best of luck this season and hope you all stay safe throughout your travels this year. Ryan Davis

THE FIRST 5 STRAND CALF ROPE WITH A CORE What happens when 5 strands of low stretch poly fibers are woven around a solid braided core? You get a rope with speed and snap as quick as a viper’s strike, but with more consistency and less stretch than any calf rope on the market today. With the feel of your favorite poly-grass and the strength and stability that only core-tech can give it, you won’t break this rope. And like a viper, its the same every time....Deadly accurate.
