SPECS • • • •
Filter size: 67mm Weight: 665g Elements: 13 elements in 11 groups Optics: Fluorite Coating, special low dispersion, multi-coated. • Close focus: 30cm • Angle of view: 63.4° diagonal on full frame. • Min/Max aperture: 1.4/16
FIRST IMPRESSIONS • Very plastic lens. • Pea sized when compared to Canon’s 35mm. • Overall not very exciting. • But upon first few shots – impressive optical quality.
CONSTRUCT • More plastic than metal. • Still feels rather solid despite being a rather light lens. • Very little moving parts on the outside – Will probably last long. • Weather resistant, not weather sealed. • Made in Japan… if it matters.
AUTO FOCUS • Very good on a Nikon. • Does not seem to have any problems, even in low light. • Even the manual focus ring is smooth. • There are reports of this lens not working on older Nikon F cameras though.
IMAGE QUALITY • Good bokeh at f/1.4. • Seems to hit sweet spot at around f/2.8 to f/4. • A good lens even for street and landscape – Works amazingly good even at f/10 to f/14.
THE GOOD • Solid construct, can probably survive a hard knock or two. • Buttery smooth auto-focus (I have not experienced any issues on my Nikon DSLR till date) • Excellent optics. • Half the price of Nikon and Canon 35mm counterpart. Amazing value for money. THE BAD • Weather resistant, but not weather sealed. Keep this lens away from heavy rain and splashes. • Suffers from a tad bit of distortion. Not a major pain, and probably unnoticeable.
