International trade in goods has increased phenomenally since the establishment of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1947, largely due to efforts by the world’s leading traders to reduce and eliminate tariffs multilaterally. This publication reviews how the procedures and practices relating to tariff negotiations and renegotiations have evolved over the past seven decades, highlighting some of the major developments since the first edition of this book was published in 1999.
