is month, beginning July 1, WTTW Passport members can watch season 9 of the British comedy series Doc Martin before its WTTW broadcast premiere in September. is season, Martin Clunes returns as Doctor Martin Ellingham, a respected surgeon from London and the only doctor in the small village of Portwenn in Cornwall. His career is hanging in the balance and his future is under scrutiny from the General Medical Council following complaints about his irascible approach to patients. e second season of e Great American Recipe continues this month, blending camaraderie with competition as home cooks from around the country present family favorites passed down through generations along with internationally in uenced recipes that are becoming mainstays of American cuisine. And this season, one of the competitors is from our own back yard! Edison Park native and Western Springs resident Ted Pappas spoke with e Guide about his Greek culinary roots, favorite dishes to prepare, and how his experience on the show expanded his culinary horizons (see page 4).

It’s o cially summer on WFMT. roughout the month, WFMT will bring you live concerts from the Grant Park Music Festival including the annual Independence Day celebration of American music conducted by Christopher Bell and a presentation of Elgar’s Cello Concerto featuring the young award-winning cellist Zlatomir Fung in his Grant Park debut. And don’t miss the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and special guests live from Ravinia Festival – Marin Alsop conducts a program titled “Turn Up the Joy,” described as an expanded version of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, with African drumming and a jazz trio.
