Chicago Symphony Orchestra Live from Ravinia
“Turn Up the Joy: Beethoven 9 Expanded” is the opening night concert of CSO’s summer residency at Ravinia. Marin Alsop brings together the Chicago Symphony Chorus, Adrian Dunn Singers, and Senn High School Choir in Reena Esmail’s See Me to serve as a direct prelude to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Expanding on the idea of a “Global Ode to Joy,” each movement of the symphony will be connected by African drumming (Ayodele Drum & Dance) and a jazz trio (Jim Gailloreto Trio).

Gold Medal Winners of this year’s Fischo National Chamber Music Competition, the Incendio Saxophone Trio (Alexander Procajlo, soprano saxophone; Zachary Solomon, alto saxophone; Emma Phillips, baritone saxophone) was coached by Bryan Polacek. In May, they performed in a live Bach to School event at Wendell Phillips Academy High School in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood hosted by Robbie Ellis. Their program features music arranged and composed specifically for this unique ensemble.

The inspiration for this title comes from a time when Bill was digging deep into the back of his hall closet, and he came upon a mysterious box. Inside was a treasure trove of wonderful recordings: András Schi playing Beethoven Op. 111 and the Diabelli Variations, Martha Argerich playing Mozart Concerti with Claudio Abbado, and many more.
