A PROGRAM championship

Year in and year out, the West Virginia University swimming and diving teams compete at a high level in hopes of obtaining the ultimate program goals of sending student-athletes to the NCAA Championships, as well as finishing at the top of the conference championship.

West Virginia broke five school records during the 2021 campaign, including a pair of records during the Big 12 Championships. The Mountaineers earned 11 total medals, including four silver and seven bronze at Conference Championships.

WVU qualified eight divers at the 2021 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. Jacob Cardinal Tremblay made his second consecutive NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship appearance, while Owen Johns, Jake Low and PJ Lenz made their first appearance. The four divers qualified for NCAA Championships marked the first time in program history that multiple divers competed at a single championship.

Senior, David Dixon, earned his bid to Nationals for the fourth consecutive season, becoming the first Mountaineer from the men’s team to do so. Dixon earned a 12th-place finish in the 200 butterfly to earn Honorable Mention All-American honors, becoming the 36th All-American and the 27th different Mountaineer from the men’s team to earn All-American status.

David Dixon represented WVU at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Team Swimming Trials, competing in the 200-meter butterfly and the 200-meter individual medley.

With past success to celebrate and large goals for the future, WVU will continue to make the push toward training promising student-athletes into national contenders.
