ABOUT EU HOLIDAYS EU Holidays was founded by a group of experienced directors passionate about their work in the travel industry. They wanted to do something new that could better serve the travel needs of consumers, which is the main driving force behind the establishment of our travel agency. VISION AND MISSION

PROGRESS AND MILESTONES

EU Holidays devotes our whole energy towards focusing on long haul package tours, which is our main differentiating factor from other travel agencies. We narrowed our attention to areas such as Europe, USA, Middle East and some of the more exotic locations as these are the leading travel destinations for locals in recent years. At EU Holidays, we want to establish our position as the leading professional agency that specializes in Europe and USA leisure travel package tours for the local market. In EU Holidays, we want to take the hassle out of travelling, so as to let our customers fully experience their vacation without worrying over any details. We want our customers to have faith that each time they book with EU Holidays, they will be embarking on the greatest adventure of their lives. At EU Holidays, we take pride in providing our customers with excellent service by undergoing professional training and motivation courses and workshops. EU customers can easily meet our friendly and reliable staff face-to-face at the various travel fairs, outdoor roadshows and events that we participate in. Our staffs are all committed to go the extra mile to please our customers and give them their dream vacation.

Within five years of business operations, we have expanded EU Holidays and opened up three other subsidiary offices to focus on the various needs of our customers. The EU MICE office was set up in 2013 to cater for corporate travel with a focus on corporate meetings, conventions and events. In that same year, EU Asia was launched to cater for customers who are interested in travelling within Asia. In the following year, we opened up EU Vacations to serve the Malaysian market. In doing so, EU Holidays strives to constantly improve our products and services so that we can better serve our customers. Despite being a young company, EU Holidays has gained significant recognition from both customers and industry professionals. Founded in late 2010, EU Holidays was voted Top MasterCard Supporter in NATAS Travel, from as early as 2012 for four consecutive years. After just two years in business, EU Holidays was presented with two valuable awards – the Asia Excellence Award 2013 and the Singapore Excellence Award 2013. During the later half of the year, we also received the Singapore Quality Brands 2014 award. Since 2012, EU Holidays was named the ‘Best Travel Agency for Europe and USA Tours’ as voted by readers of ESCAPE! travel magazine. For two years running since 2014, we have also been awarded with the Weekender Travellers’ Choice Award as No. 1 for Europe and USA tours, voted by their readers.

TURKEY AN ANCIENT TRAIL A fusion of the East and West, Turkey is a Muslim nation with a unique location that touches a part of Europe and Asia. Influenced heavily by the Muslim-centric Ottoman Empire, which was found in the country, it boasts a rich culture and intriguing history. But what wows visitors are the ancient cities and the ruins within that Turkey is replete with. Follow our trail into yesteryears as we highlight the must-visit crowd favourites.

Ancient city of Ephesus Situated in the small town of Selcuk in Kusadasi, the ancient city of Ephesus lays in ruins. Though without concrete evidence of the exact date of origin, it is believed that this city has been around since 3,000BC. Located by a valley, it was used as an ancient trading centre, as well as a hub for Christians. Don’t miss the Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), Library of Celsus (built in 125AD), Odeon (a theatre constructed in 150AD) and Temple of Hadrian, all of which are spectacular ancient architecture found in the city.

Goreme Open-air Museum Heading to Cappadocia, make a pit stop at the Goreme Openair Museum. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it boasts a complex of monasteries from the 10th to 12th century. One of its most distinctive features includes its raw, rock façade, which is an incredible sight of odd and almost organic architecture. Beyond the unpolished exterior are detailed frescoes, depicting biblical and angelic characters, whose colour has hardly faded over the years.

Safranbolu Ancient city of Troy

PHOTO: 123RF/SORIN COLAC

It was supposedly where the mythical Trojan War took place. Dating back to about 4,000 years ago, Troy is an ancient city found in the province of Canakkale, Turkey. The iconic site, which inspired Iliad, an epic poem by Homer, was of both historical and cultural significance. It was first inhabited in the early Bronze Age, when a wall was built to protect the citadel. Eventually, the city expanded, including a residential complex, as well as a palace of sorts.

Ancient city of Pergamon Another ancient city to visit is Pergamon, located in northern and western Bergama. The city rose to prominence in the Hellenistic period, from 281BC to 133BC, as the capital of the Attalid dynasty. Revel in what is left of the city’s Sanctuary of Trajan, Atheneum Library and the grandest of all sights, also known as the hallmark of Pergamon architecture, with steep steps and a capacity of about 10,000 people, the Hellenistic Theatre.

Travel back to the ancient times of the Ottoman Empire in the town of Safranbolu, located north of Ankara. Due to its famous traditional Ottoman houses and its key role in the history of the caravan trade, the city has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Old Town of Safranbolu is also home to a plethora of ancient treasures such as well-preserved old buildings and 1008 registered historical artifacts. Here, you may also find the famous Cinci Han, a brooding 17th-century caravanserai that has been converted into a hotel brimming with shops, as well as the Cinci Hamam, a prominent Turkish bath that is still in operation today since the 17th century. Do stroll along the cobbled streets of Safranbolu and admire the graceful, half-timbered houses littered along the sides, many of which have huge water pools to cool the air on warm summer days.

THE MUST-DO LIST

DUBAI

One of the most popular tourist destinations, Dubai holds a multiplicity of attractions that can be hard to choose between, especially when on a tight schedule. Sifting out the best of the best, we present you with the ultimate Dubai to-do list, featuring one-of-a-kind activities that you can find nowhere else in the world.

1

Ski in the Mall of the Emirates

4

Visit the world’s only 7-Star hotel

2

Go for an exhilarating desert safari

5

Witness a sunrise on a hot air balloon

3

Visit the world’s tallest building

Dominating all others, the most enthralling spot in all of South America is Machu Picchu. Dating back to the 15th century, the ancient site is allegedly the last Incan city in Peru. Its primeval presence will transport you into the mysterious world of yesteryear. To reach the ruins, you would have to journey 2,430m above the sea level to the top of the mountain. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the abandoned grounds blend into the steep, rocky terrain and green plains. To get the best views, head to the highest point for a panorama of the almost systematically placed rows of stonewalls.

PHOTO: 123RF/ANNA OMELCHENKO

Escape the city, where concrete land and towering skyscrapers abounds. Why not, for a change, head to the desert in Dubai? Hop on a four-wheel buggy and venture off-track as you speed headon towards sand dunes, an experience that the adrenaline-seeker would find attractive. A package tour includes a mellow camel ride, a belly dancing performance and a sumptuous buffet dinner.

When you want to feel like royalty, there’s nothing like stepping foot into the world’s most luxurious hotel, known as the Burj Al Arab. Standing alone on an artificial island surrounded by the sea, its mere structure that resembles the shape of a ship’s sail is a sight to behold. Designed by Tom Wright of WKK Architects, the hotel has 28 double-story floors with 202 suites, the largest of which spans an astounding 780 square metres. You would have to be a millionaire to afford a stay at one of its Royal Suites, which is priced at about US$18,000 per night.

Forget automobiles, planes, trains and boats. Take to the air on a much more thrilling ride – a hot air balloon. It is the best way to experience and view the sandy horizon of the Dubai desert. Lasting an hour (if the weather permits), the ride will be largely dictated by the direction of the wind, flying to wherever it takes us. Besides the endless expanse of beautiful barren land, you may also catch sight of a few inhabitants of the Arabian desert, including gazelles, oryx and camels. But what makes this voyage extra special is its early take-off time, which allows you to catch the first glow of the sunrise, welcoming the start of a new day.

Defeating the Shanghai Tower, One World Trade Centre, John Hancock Centre and the Petronas Towers in height, the world’s tallest man-made structure is Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, standing at 829m. Stand at the base of the building and you’ll feel like the smallest creature on Earth, but ascend to the top observation deck of the skyscraper and you’ll be gifted with a magnificent view of the city landscape. Designed by Adrian Smith, it began construction in Sept 21, 2004 before completion about six years later in 2010.

African Lion

PHOTO: 123RF/BRADLEY VAN DER WESTHUIZEN, IVAN MATEEV, NICO SMIT, LIENKIE, DONOVAN VAN STADEN

With an electrifying gaze that could both entrance and intimidate, this big cat remains to this day one of the most majestic creatures to roam the safari. These natural predators that form the royalty of the animal world hunt in packs and encapsulate what team work means. Vicious whilst in a fight, the lifespan of an average African lion could be reduced to below 14 years due to fatal injuries. But their biggest threat is the hunters who have endangered them as a species.

SOUTH AFRICA’S BIG FIVE

Symbolic of the wilderness of South Africa, the Big Five are some of the most dangerous and elusive species of the animal kingdom. Coined by game hunters, the term, Big Five, represents the utter difficulty in capturing or even spotting these creatures. Hence, they have become hunting favourites, the coveted target and prize of modern hunters. These are the South African Big Five.

African Leopard It has golden fur embellished with black spots, also known as rosettes that are sometimes circular and other times squareshaped. Fast and furious, this natural beauty is the ultimate athlete with the unrivalled ability to sprint at a speed of 60km/h and leap horizontally over a 6m distance, which is double the distance of their best vertical leap. Thanks to their hide and insane climbing skills, the agile African leopard easily blends into their surroundings and stays out of a reach at the top of a tree.

Cape Buffalo Marked by their recognisable horns that are likened to two hooks or one big moustache, Cape Buffalos are not to be messed with. Thanks to its sharp curved weapon, this burly animal has earned a nasty reputation for having fatally wounded more game hunters than any other beast in Africa. When a Cape Buffalo has been spotted, you’ll be hard-pressed not to find an ox-pecker bird resting atop the mammal, pecking on its hide to remove parasites.

African Elephant Taking the cake as the world’s largest mammal, these giants average at a weight of about 6,350kg, according to the National Geographic. Known for their gentle nature, African elephants can be a fun bunch to watch especially during bath times when they make use of their trunks to spray water on themselves. While this behaviour may not scare off too many creatures, you wouldn’t want to be near one when it’s agitated. With a mammoth and muscular frame, they could crush you to bits in a second. As they were being widely poached for their ivories, a ban on it has helped protect the species from extinction.

20 Exotic| EU Holidays

African Rhinoceros The last mammal of the Big Five is the African Rhino that is split into two species, the Black rhino and the White rhino. The Black rhino normally survive as lone rangers, whereas the White rhino goes in groups, which may justify how Black rhinos are dwindling faster in numbers, being easier to corner and capture. Despite the distinction between the two species, rhinos are neither black nor white – they are grey.
