HIMALAYAS ON WHEELS The Himalayas as a vacation spot inevitably conjures up images of snow-capped mountains in the winter and fields of stunning flora surrounding the deep-cut valleys in spring. There is, however, a common misconception that the only way to experience the magnificence of the Himalayas is through strenuous trekking or climbing. The good news is, the improved infrastructure and networks of roads available, allows for easy access, so that one can visit all parts of the Himalayas on wheels. Only the high Himalayas are blocked by heavy snow between November to April, but even this region can be easily crossed on wheels in the summer. Himalayas literally means “abode of snow”. Covering a land area over 2500 km long and 300-400 km wide, it is home to a stretch of multiple valleys and many mountain ranges. From the East to the West, it can be divided into the following: Eastern Himalayas, Central Himalayas and the Western Himalayas. The Himalayas spills into six different countries, and is shared by India, Nepal,

Bhutan, China, Pakistan and Afghanistan. From the South to the North, it can be grouped into four parallel longitudinal mountain belts divided as the Outer or Shivalik Himalayas, the Lower Himalayas, the High Himalayas and the Trans Himalayas. The Shivalik Himalayas includes foothills below the altitude of 2100m, as well as many interesting places such as Jammu, Dharamsala, and Shimla. The Lower Himalayan range includes the wellknown and scenic valleys of Kashmir, Kullu-Manali Valley, and Kathmandu.

The High Himalayas (most commonly known as the Tibetan Plateau) include all the high mountain ranges running parallel to each other with peaks and passes over 3200m high. The regions of Ladakh and Tibet, as well as Spiti Valley, are few of the natural beauties located in the high Himalayan mountains. Himalayan valleys are inhabited by different ethnic groups living in villages and pastures. There is an abundance of interesting towns, temples, monasteries, and palaces associated with mystifying folklore.

DAY 1 SINGAPORE → DELHI → CHANDIGARH

Arrive to Delhi before noon, and meet with your Odyssey Manager. After lunch and some shopping, transfer to the train station and board the Shatabdi Express to Chandigarh, leaving at 1705 hours and arriving at 2020 hours. Transfer to the hotel once you have arrived.

DAY 2 CHANDIGARH → SHIMLA

130 km, 3 - hour drive After breakfast at your hotel drive to Shimla. On arrival explore the town of Shimla, erstwhile Indian capital. Visit the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies. This institute is housed in the former Viceregal Lodge, which was built in 1884-1888 during the British rule. It has spacious gardens and is crowned by beautiful pine trees. The calm and serene atmosphere is perfect for students. Explore the famous ‘Mall Road & Ridge’ and get acquainted with the olden days of Shimla. Transfer to the hotel for an overnight stay.

DAY 3 SHIMLA → MANALI → VALLEY OF GODS

250 km, 5½ - hour drive + lunch and stops The British connected the mountain town to the plains of India by railway in 1903. The estimated 40-minute train ride provides a view of the untamed wilderness of Shimla. A narrow gauge train track of approximately 100 km connects Shimla to the broad gauged line at Kalka by passing through more than 100 tunnels. After your journey through Shimla, your next destination will be Manali. Experience a dramatic change in scenery as you travel from the Shivalik Himalayas to the Lower Himalayas. You will be driving from a hilltop to different valleys and along different rivers. We will stop at Bajaura to visit Basheshwar Mahadev Temple, and admire the intricate stone carvings and sculptures believed to have been built in the mid-8th century. You will then drive to Manali and transfer to the hotel.

Day 4 VISIT AND ENJOY SPECTACULAR MANALI

After breakfast visit the Hidimba Devi Temple, a wooden structure constructed in 1553 AD. It is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, sister of Hidimba, who was a character in the Indian epic, Mahabharata. The temple is surrounded by a cedar forest. Drive to the Old Manali village, named after a great Hindu sage Manu. According to mythology, humans and nature pass through a cycle of development and are finally destroyed by deluge. Only a few

surviving inhabitants are spared from this cycle. During the last deluge, Manu was the leader of the inhabitants on Earth who survived on a celestial boat and landed at Manali. You will be spending the rest of the day exploring a few more villages. There will be time to shop and partake in other leisure activities in the Mall Road, Manali.

DAY 5 MANALI → SOLANG → SNOW POINT/ROHTANG PASS → MANALI

In the morning, you will be driven to Rohtang Pass, there will be photo stops along the way. This route offers spectacular views of peaks rising up to 5000m to 6600m and glaciers of Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal Range and Chandrabhaga range of the High Himalayas. In addition, you will also see the lush green valley of Kullu-Manali with the Beas River flowing through it. The excursion will end at Snow Point, the road towards Rohtang Pass. Roads may be affected by snow and ice. Rohtang Pass is the first and lowest pass to Ladakh. Between June to November, there is a higher chance to reach the top of Rohtang Pass. During this time, you might be able to enjoy the expansive view of the snow-capped mountains of C.B. Range, as there may be little or no snow in the surrounding area. We will take a diversion to visit Solang Valley. On our way back we visit Vashisht, known for its hot water sulfur springs, ancient Vashistha and Rama Temples.

DAY 6 MANALI → DHARAMSHALA

240 km – 5 hour drive + lunch and stops We will drive along the left bank of River Beas until you reach Bhuntar and travel to Dharamshala. We will stop at the Town of Shiva-Baijnath Temple, and visit the Shiva temple built in the 13th century. According to mythology, the Demon King of Lanka, Ravana-who had ten heads, offered his ninth head to Lord Shiva to gain immortality. However, Lord Shiva was not impressed, so the Demon King presented his tenth head. Lord Shiva was pleased with his offering, so much so that he blessed him with a Shiva Lingam. The same Shiva Lingam is said to be in

the Shiva Temple to this day. Spend the night at Dharamshala. We will be visiting Norbulingka Institute before travelling to Dharamsala. In the evening, walk around Mcleod Ganj, known as Little Lhasa (capital of Tibet). You will see Tibetan monasteries, colourful Tibetan handicraft shops and small restaurants here. This place was once used by the British as a garrison, now it is a well-known tourist destination.

DAY 7 DHARAMSHALA → AMRITSAR

210 km, 4½ hour drive + lunch and stops After breakfast start your day exploring McLeod Ganj, upper Dharamsala located on the slopes of Dhauladhar Range of the High Himalayas overlooking Kangra Valley. Here we experience the Tibetan philosophy and life of Tibetans in India. We visit the Dalai Lama Monastery and Tibet Museum. The museum was established with the aim of presenting Tibet’s history and its future plans through texts, photographs, videos and installations. The main exhibition features, “A Long Look Homeward”. On your drive to Amritsar, continue watching the fascinating march known as the Beating Retreat Ceremony. Wagah border is the border between India and Pakistan, which allows the movement of passengers and goods to and fro. In the evening, you will visit the Golden Temple.

DAY 8 AMRITSAR → DELHI → FLY HOME

In the morning, you will transfer to the railway station to board the Shatabdi Express to Delhi. The train will leave at 0510 hours and reach Delhi at 1115 hours. Once you arrive at Delhi, have lunch at one of the restaurants and spend the rest of the day shopping, before transferring to the airport for your scheduled flight. DAY 1 SINGAPORE → AMRITSAR

Arrive at Amritsar airport. On arrival, meet with your Odyssey Manager and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 2 AMRITSAR SIGHTSEEING

In the morning, visit the Golden Temple. Amritsar - the holy town of Sikhs, which has grown from a sacred village to become a spiritual temporal center of Sikh culture. The city gets its name from the pool - Amritsar (Pool of Nectar), which was constructed by the fourth religious preceptor of the Sikh faith. Golden Temple or Darbar Sahib is a sacred temple for Sikhs. It is a symbol of the magnificence and strength of Sikh people all over the world. Its architecture includes symbols associated with other places of worship. This is an example of the spiritual tolerance and acceptance that the Sikh philosophy propounds. There will be further visits to Jallianwala Bagh and Durgiana Temple in the vicinity. The late afternoon drive takes about 30 km to get out of the town to see the fascinating march known as the Beating Retreat Ceremony. Wagah border is the only border between India and Pakistan which still allows the movement of passengers and goods to and fro. Head back to the hotel for a comfortable stay in Amritsar.

Drive past the fertile land of Srinagar and enter another Himalayan valley to reach Pahalgam. Pahalgam is surrounded by mountains and pine forests, and is located at the banks of Lidder River at the altitude of 7200 ft. The main activities that tourists partake in at Pahalgam are hiking, fishing and horseriding. Pahalgam is well-known for its trout fish in Lidder River. It is supposedly a serene place to rest and relax in the vicinity of nature. On arrival, check in to the hotel for overnight stay and spend your evening at leisure.

DAY 5 PAHALGAM → SRINAGAR

220 km, 4-5 hour drive Set off on a 4-hour journey, after a gourmet breakfast, to the next destination in Jammu. The picturesque drive provides a variety of sceneries along the way. The state of Punjab, rich in agriculture and farming, joins its boundaries with the mountainous and beautiful state of Jammu and Kashmir. Reach the town of Jammu in the afternoon and transfer to the hotel to freshen up. Proceed to visit Bahu Fort and Bagh-e-Bahu to take in sights of the city and its landscaped gardens. The Bahu Fort was built on an idea a king got during his hunting trip, when he saw a goat and a tiger drinking water from the same lake. Continue on your journey to Ranbireshwar Temple and drop by the local bazaar of Raghunathpur. Spend the night at a hotel in Jammu.

90 km, 2½ hour drive Enjoy a refreshing morning walk around the neighbourhood and breathe in the fresh air of the mountains. Indulge in a hearty breakfast at your hotel before embarking on a nature trail. People mostly come to Pahalgam to enjoy the lush green meadows, fragrant pine forests and meandering rivers. After lunch, drive towards Srinagar and reach the town in around three hours and transfer to a deluxe houseboat by the lake. The two famous lakes of Srinagar “Dal Lake” and “Nagin Lake” are wellknown for the rows of houseboats they harbour. The houseboats are furnished with hand-carved furniture and rich Kashmiri carpets. An attendant or a butler will be available at all times. You will be served three meals, and have a choice of Western, Kashmiri and Indian cuisine. The houseboats offer bedrooms with attached toilets, pantry, dining room, living room, and even a balcony facing the lake.

DAY 4 JAMMU → PATNITOP

(135 km, 3½ hour drive) - PAHALGAM (155 km, 4½ hour drive) After an early breakfast, start with your journey to the next destination in Pahalgam. The drive will take you to the best spots in the Himalayas. Stop for lunch at Patnitop, a tourist destination

After breakfast, proceed with the tour of the world famous Nishat Bagh, known as the Gardens of Pleasure, it is the second largest Mughal garden in the Kashmir Valley. Queen Nur Jahan’s brother, Asif Khan, built the garden in 1633 A.D. It is situated on the banks of

the Dal Lake, with the Zabarwan hills serving as a backdrop. Shalimar Bagh (abode of love) was built by Emperor Jahangir for his beloved wife, Nur Jahan. The gardens have four terraces, and the total area is 539 by 182 meters. It gets water from Harwan through a canal lined with fountains. The fourth terrace was once reserved for royal ladies, the Chashma Shahi or the Royal Spring, was constructed by Shah Jahan in 1632 A.D. The spring is 9 km from the city centre and is famous for its refreshing spring water. Drive back to the houseboat after your excursion.

DAY 7 GULMARG EXCURSION

Take your breakfast in the houseboat and depart to Gulmarg - one of the most beautiful summer resorts in the Kashmir Valley. It is well-known for its golf course during the summer season and ski resort during the winter season. Enjoy the splendour of nature and the snowy mountains. Enjoy a cable car ride from Gulmarg to Kongdoor. Return back to Srinagar in the afternoon, and take a stroll around the alleys and small streets of Srinagar. Head back to the houseboat for some leisure time. Dinner will be served at your houseboat.

DAY 8 SRINAGAR → DELHI → FLY HOME

Enjoy a relaxing time at the houseboat and transfer to the airport to board your scheduled flight to Delhi. Srinagar airport is equipped with strict security measures and all passengers getting in and out of Srinagar need to go through stringent checks, so it is crucial to reach the airport 2 hours in advance. Arrive to Delhi and transfer to the International airport to board the flight back home.

DAY 1 SINGAPORE → DELHI → SRINAGAR

Domestic & International Flight Fly to Delhi. On arrival, be greeted by your Odyssey Manager and head to the airport to board your flight to Srinagar. Then, transfer to the quaint and luxurious deluxe houseboat. The two famous lakes of Srinagar, ‘Dal Lake’ and ‘Nagin Lake’, are well-known harbours for houseboats. The houseboats come with hand-carved furniture and rich Kashmiri carpets. An attendant or a butler will be available at all times. Three meals will be prepared daily on board and served to you. Take your pick from Western, Kashmiri, or Indian cuisine to satisfy your tastebuds. The wooden boathouse offers bedrooms with attached toilets, pantry, dining room as well as a living room. It also boasts a front balcony facing the lake, offering you the best views during your stay.

DAY 2 GULMARG EXCURSION

125 km, 3½ hour drive + Excursion After breakfast, depart to Gulmarg - one of the most beautiful summer resorts in Kashmir valley. It is well-known for its golf courses during the summer season and ski resorts during winter. Enjoy a cable car ride from Gulmarg to Kongdoor. In the afternoon, return back to Srinagar and take a stroll through the alleys and small streets of this whimsical town. On the way back, visit Jamia Masjid to encounter the tranquility of this place of worship. Head back in the evening and tuck into a delicious dinner at your houseboat.

DAY 3 SRINAGAR → SONAMARG → KARGIL

210 km, 5 - 7 hour drive Start your adventure by driving to Sonamarg, an idyllic town in Jammu and Kashmir by car. It will take approximately 2 hours to cover around 80 km through the rural towns and meandering roads along the Sindh River. Sonamarg lies at the head of the Sindh Valley and is surrounded by mountains and pine forests. You will also get to view spectacular facets of the countryside. After Sonamarg, start your drive up to the first pass of our route - the Zoji-La (3529 m). Zoji-La prominently marks the boundary between Kashmir and Ladakh. Dense green forest-clad slopes give way to majestic mountains. Drive through Drass Town - also known as the gateway to Ladakh - the second coldest place in the world. You will notice the landscape’s aesthetics dramatically shift from lush greenery to barren Himalayan mountain ranges. Check in to your hotel in Kargil for the night.

DAY 4 KARGIL → LAMAYURU → ALCHI → LEH

230 km, 6 hour drive + lunch & stops After powering up with breakfast, you will be driven to Leh. There will be a pit-stop at Mulbeck, to visit the 1400 year-old image of Maitreya -the future Buddha- atop a huge rock. The image commemorates the victory of Buddhism over Bonism, and in turn, the end of human and animal sacrifice. From here, you will be driven over to Fotu-La (4108 m) and Namika-La (3718 m), the highest points in Leh - Srinagar road. On the way you will visit Lamayuru Monastery, Atitse Monastery and Naropa Cave. Lamayuru is one of the most significant fortifications that is set against the majestic scenery of Leh. The 900year old monastery in Ladakh, houses the image of Chanaric – The God of Compassion and Mercy. Our last stop is Alchi Monastery which was founded in 11th century by the great monk and translator, Rinchen Zangpo. At the end of the day, move on to Leh and head back to your hotel for a good night’s rest.

DAY 5 LEH WALK AROUND Today you will have the whole day to explore the town of Leh. Take a walk down to Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace. You can shop for intricate and charming jewellery made in Tibet and Burma. Visit Leh’s Main Market and spend time purchasing souvenirs and other uncommon gems. Two other noteworthy places to visit are Ladakh Art Palace and Lhasa Embroidery. The Tibetan Refugee Market on Old Leh Road is yet another ideal place for shopping. You can also head to the Government Arts Emporium for art pieces of TibetanLadakhi origins. DAY 6 LEH → SHEY → THIKSHEY → PANGONG LAKE 158 km, 4-5 hour drive

Enjoy an early morning drive to Pangong Tso where you will be treated to ethereal views of the lake. This journey will take you to the picturesque villages of Shey and Thikse, and turns off at the Indus Valley by the side-valley of Chemrey and Sakti. Ladakh range is crossed by the Chang-La (5360 m), which despite its great elevation, is one of the easier passes to cross. It remains open for most of the year, even in winter-except during periods of snowfall. Tangse, situated just beyond the foot of the pass, houses an ancient temple. But the main attraction of this circuit is the Pangong Lake, situated at 14,000 feet (4,267 m). Be mesmerised by the mirrorlike surface of the lake, as it reflects its stunning surroundings.

DAY 7 PANGONG LAKE → HEMIS → LEH

173 km, 4-5 hour drive + lunch & stops Enjoy the sunrise at Pangong Lake. You will then be driven back to Leh via the same route over the ChangLa. Visit the Hemis Monastery on your way back. Hemis Monastery is one of the largest and most important monasteries with an excellent library, well-preserved wall paintings, and grand statues of Buddha. DAY 1 SINGAPORE → DELHI → CHANDIGARH

Arrive in Delhi before noon. Upon arrival, you will meet with your Odyssey Manager and head for lunch. After lunch, spend some time shopping, then transfer to the train station to board the Shatabdi Express to Chandigarh, which will leave at 1705 hrs and arrive at your destination at 2020hrs. From here, you will check in to your hotel for the night.

DAY 2 CHANDIGARH → MANALI

320 km 7-9 hour drive After breakfast, you will be driven to Manali. This journey offers a dramatic change in scenery from Shivalik Himalayas to the lower Himalayas. You will be driving from a hilltop passing valleys and sometimes driving along different rivers. There will be a scheduled stop at Himachal Darshan Photo Gallery in Mandi and at Bajaura to visit Basheshwar Mahadev Temple - home to exquisite stone carvings and sculptures believed to have been built in the mid-8th century. Continue on your drive until you reach the town of Manali.

DAY 3 MANALI → JISPA

145 km, 6 hour drive Drive to Jispa over the Rohtang Pass (3978 m). There will be a stop to enjoy the snow-capped peaks of Chandrabhaga. There are many waterfalls along the way and you will bear witness to the extravagant beauty of the Kullu Valley and charms of the semibarren landscape of Lahaul. Once you arrive, you will check in to your hotel. You will have the afternoon to yourself, take a leisurely stroll around the village while basking in the atmosphere.

DAY 4 JISPA → EASYTREK™ SARCHU

120 km, 3-4 hour drive Begin your day by trekking uphill or drive to reach the next village perched on a slope called Khangsar. The old palace made of mud and clay is still adapting to the harsh climate. After visiting the village, continue on your drive to the next destination; Sarchu Camp is a 3-4 hour drive over the second pass called Baralacha-La (4890m). You will pass two small mountain lakes Deepak Tal and Suraj Tal - on the way. The landscape changes from the semi barren to barren landscape with different colours of stratum, recording the history of the Himalayas, when it was deep under the sea and rivers added multi-colour soil from different parts of the Earth. O/N Camp.

DAY 5 SARCHU → LEH

240 km, 7-8 hour drive Drive over the three high passes on these routes: Nakee-La (4739 m), Lachulung-La (5065m), and TanglangLa (5360 m). You might encounter the Changpas (nomadic shepherds), who also engage in trade and use to work for the caravans in Ladakh, Lahaul and Spiti districts. The area is rich in wildlife - you might just be able to spot a kiang (wild ass), red fox, or the rare and highly endangered snow leopard. The mountains change colours because of the different mineral deposits; this sight will be prominent once you start descending the Tanglang-La Pass. There will be a short stop at Upshi, to make payment for the interstate taxes imposed on visiting vehicles, then continue straight down the Indus River to reach Leh.

DAY 6 LEH WALK AROUND

After a nice breakfast at your hotel, start your drive to Nubra Valley via Khardung-La (5360 m). From Khardung-La, you will have a stunning view of Indus Valley and the Karakoram Range if the weather is clear. Descend the Nubra Valley, which was once called Ldumra (the valley of flowers). The Shyok River meets the Nubra or Siachen River to form a large valley that separates the Ladakh and Karakoram Range. Take an afternoon stroll and explore the sand dunes of Hunder, you can also enjoy a camel ride that is only available in the Nubra Valley. The domesticated Bactrian camel has been utilised as a form of transportation in Asia since ancient times. They can only be found in the remote regions of the Gobi and Taklamakan Deserts of Mongolia and China. Retire for the night at the hotel at Diskit, situated in Nubra.

DAY 8: DISKIT → KHARDUNGLA → LEH

Entire day will be dedicated to exploring the town of Leh. First walk to Shanti Stupa then continue on to Leh Palace - a colossal ruin built in the 17th century. Head to the Main Market in Leh - a wonderful place to shop for quirky or exotic finds. Two other noteworthy places to visit are Ladakh Art Palace and Lhasa Embroidery. The Tibetan Refugee Market situated on Old Leh Road is another ideal spot for shopping in Leh. You can also head to the Government Arts Emporium for art pieces of Tibetan-Ladakhi origins. DAY 2 CHANDIGARH → SHIMLA

130 km, 3 hour drive After enjoying your breakfast at the hotel, drive to Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Visit the grand Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (closed on Mondays), which has spacious gardens and is crowned by beautiful pine trees. This place is usually frequented by students. After lunch, take your time to explore the famous ‘Mall Road & Ridge’ to get a peek into Shimla’s past.

DAY 3 SHIMLA → SARAHAN

175 km, 5 hour drive + lunch & stops Check out from your hotel after having breakfast. You will be driven 175 km to the pretty village of Sarahan, with a scheduled stop at the town of Narkanda. In this town, you can enjoy a short walk up to the Hatu Peak, the highest point on the route for a spectacular view of the Lower Himalayan ranges. Continue with your drive down to the Sutlej River and carry along till Jeori, drive uphill until you reach Sarahan. You will stay here for the night before embarking on yet another visual adventure in the morning.

DAY 4 SARAHAN → KALPA

88 km, 3½ hour drive + stops You will start your day earlier than usual by visiting the Bhima Kali Temple at Sarahan to witness the morning puja or prayer ritual performed by Hindu devotees. The temple is a multistory structure with Indian and Tibetan incorporated in its architecture. NonHindus and Buddhist are not allowed to enter. Bhima Kali Temple is one of the places of worship, where devotees used to offer up human sacrifices before the 18th century. Head back to the hotel for breakfast, before embarking on your drive to Kalpa, you will drive past the Wangtu bridge along the Sutlej River and towards Recong Peo. You will visit the magistrate office to procure the Inner Line Permits. After lunch, you will visit the monastery in Reckong Peo Monastery which is home to a 60 ft. tall statue of Buddha. Then you will be driven to Kalpa, where you will visit the monastery and orphanage. During your time here you will enjoy a great view of the 6050m tall Kinner Kailash. Check in to your hotel and settle in. After freshening up, you can choose to stroll around the vicinity and enjoy the rest of the night.

DAY 5 KALPA → NAKO → TABO → KAZA

197 km, 4½ hour + lunch & stops Enjoy your breakfast and get ready to hit the road once more. You will be heading towards the picturesque town of Kaza. As you pass through Reckong Peo and Powari Village, the landscape changes. Traverse the desert terrains through Puh to reach Nako. Visit the lake as well as the monastery of Nako. Continue your journey to Sumdo on the ancient Indo-Tibetan Road. After clearing the formalities at the checkpoint, you will reach Gue, also known as the village of the Lama Mummy. You will then be driven to Tabo and visit the Tabo Monastery. Your final stop will be at Kaza, where you will stay for the night.

DAY 6 KAZA → KI → KIBBER → LANGZA → HIKKIM → KAZA

Day Excursion You will have the day to explore the town of Kaza. Drive up to Langza Village to explore the paddy fields and the monastery. Then, you will visit the Hikkim Monastery for a magnificent view of the Himalayan ranges. This area is famous among the researchers for the ancient fossils found in the region. Continue further to the highest village of Kibber and visit the Ki Monastery on your way back to Kaza.

DAY 7 KAZA → MANALI

210 km, 6½ hour drive + lunch & stops After breakfast, you will be driven to Losar village; during your drive you will notice small Spitian villages scattered all around. Stop at the checkpoint to

get yourself registered and continue towards Kunzum-La (4551m). Take in the 360-degree view of the famous Temple of Goddess Kunzum before driving down to Batal. From here you will head to the valley of Lahaul. The serene drive takes you along the mighty Chandra River till Chhatru. Have your lunch in Chhatru and continue on with your journey towards the Rohtang Pass (3978 m). Enjoy your descent all the way to Manali where you will stay for the night.

DAY 8 MANALI → CHANDIGARH

320 km, 6½ hour drive + lunch & stops In the morning, get ready for a beautiful and refreshing walk or drive amongst the thick pine forests to reach the famous Hidimba Devi Temple. Head back to the hotel for breakfast before checking out. Proceed to the next destination - the city of Chandigarh. Stop at Bajaura to visit Lord Shiva Temple, also known as Basheshwar Mahadev Temple. This 8th century old temple encompasses four different forms of Lord Shiva, in a beautifully carved rock temple. After having dinner, retire for the night at Chandigarh.

DAY 1 ARRIVE AT DEHRADUN

DAY 2 DEHRADUN → UTTARKASHI

152 km, around 5 hours drive After enjoying breakfast, start driving to Uttarkashi through the hilly road visiting Mussoorie on the way. We visit Company gardens and Tibetan monastery. Both are located in Happy valley area of Mussoorie. The municipal or the Company gardens was previously (before independence) also known as Botanical gardens of Mussoorie. These gardens were laid by well known geologist Dr. H. Fackner in the last century. The Tibetan temple is evidence to rich Tibetan cultural heritage. On completion enjoy your lunch. After lunch drive Uttrakashi.

DAY 3 GANGOTRI EXCURSION

198km, whole day trip After taking breakfast, drive around 100 km (3 hours) to reach the small town of Gangotri, which is named after the founding of river Ganges. This little town of Gangotri is flocked by thousands of pilgrims during summer months every year. Present temple of Gangotri was built in 18th century, by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa. It is believed this temple is built near the spot where the goddess Ganga is said to have first descended on earth from heaven, as an answer to the prayers of King Bhagriath. During winter, Gangotri temple remains closed due to heavy snowfall. After exploring Gangotri, drive back to Uttarakashi for overnight stay.

reach the next destination Joshimath. We will stop at Srinagar for lunch. After lunch, we drive to Joshimath, stopping at two prominent places - Rudraprayag and Karanprayag, on the way. Deva Prayaga is where the tranquil Alaknanda embraces the tempestuous Bhagirathi and it is here that the Ganga is truly born. Devout Hindus consider this prayaga second only to the Triveni in Allahabad. Continue driving till the Karanprayag where the confluence of the Pindari River, which originated from the icy Pindari glacier and the Alaknanda, occurs. After visiting we drive to Joshimath and transfer to Hotel for overnight stay.

DAY 6 AULI EXCURSION

108km, around 3 hours drive Start off your day by visiting the temples for morning prayers, followed by a breakfast and then drive to Chamba. Today will be more relaxing as compared to the others. Take your time to observe the New Tihri Town and Dam, which recently engulfed the whole of Old Tihri town. Continue driving further to the small town of Chamba for overnight stay.

After breakfast transfer to Cable Car station to board on cable car to visit Auli, also known as Auli Bugyal which means “meadow” in Garhwali. It is located at an elevation of 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) to 3,050 metres (10,010 ft) above sea level and surrounded by coniferous and oak forests, with a panoramic view of the peaks of the Himalayas. For example, Nanda Devi dominates the panoramic scene. Auli is also know of its skiing slopes in the winters. The slopes are intended for both professional skiers and novices. A small Hindu temple connected with the Hindu epic the Ramayana is also present. Get back to Joshimath for a comfortable overnight stay.

Rishikesh is located at a height of about 1360 feet above sea level. It is believed that several yogis and sages lived and practised penance here. Rishikesh represents the site where Vishnu vanquished Madhu, the demon. Tapovan houses a temple to Lakshmana on the other bank of the Ganges. It is believed that Lakshmana carried out penances and his brother, Bharata, meditated here. There is even a temple dedicated to Bharata there. We will also visit Ganga Aarti, which takes place on the ghat in the evening, after sunset. A group of Brahmans hold huge fire bowls in their hands and offer their holy mantras to river Ganges, Shiva - the Hindu God of destruction, Surya - the Sun God and the entire Universe. Take your last night in India at a local hotel. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 8 RISHIKESH → DEHRADUN → FLY HOME

DAY 1 SINGAPORE → DELHI → CORBETT

DAY 2 CORBETT NATIONAL PARK

Enjoy a day exploring the flora and fauna in and around Corbett with 4X4 jeep rides into the different zones of the park in the morning. Corbett National Park is the oldest national park in India and was named for the hunter and conservationist Jim Corbett who played a key role in its establishment. The park was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park. The increase in tourist activities, among other problems, continues to present a serious challenge to the park’s ecological balance, which has been a haunt for tourists and wildlife lovers. Tourism activity is only allowed in selected areas of Corbett Tiger so that people get an opportunity to see its splendid landscape.

DAY 3 CORBETT → KAUSANI

165km, around 5-6 hours drive After breakfast, leave for Kausani, described as ‘Mini-Switzerland of India’ by Mahatama Gandhi. Kausani is a small town situated at the height of 1890 meters, nestling amongst thick, dense pine forests, atop a narrow ridge and separated from the towering mountains of Nanda Devi range. The place is well known for its ethereal sunrise and a 320 km wide view of Himalayan range. Eulogised by poets and philosophers, this scenic and beautiful spot offers so much all year round-sightseeing, history, sport, pilgrimage and complete relaxation. Visit Anashkati Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi stayed and practised the Anasakti Yoga for two weeks. The historical site is a wonderful location, not just to take a glimpse into Gandhi’s life through the rare photograph collections, but also to view the Himalayas as one can see Trishul and Nandadevi peak from here. The scenery is especially beautiful at dawn and dusk. We will also visit Chay-Baghaat – the tea-garden in this district. Enjoy a sunset over the 350 km of Himalayan ranges. Night stay at Kausani with panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges.

DAY 4 KAUSANI → BAIJNATH → ALMORA

90km, around 3.5 hours drive In the morning, drive to the Baijnath Temple in Kausani, built around the 12th

century, likely by the Kumaon Katyuri king of that time. The temple is the highly significant as it is believed that Lord Shiva an Parati married at the confluence of River Gomati and Garur Ganga nearby and there are many other religious stories surrounding it. The temple also has beautiful architecture and an artificial lake which allows for fish feeding. Immerse in the rich traditions and heritage of the beautiful temple. Then, continue your journey towards Almora – widely considered to be the cultural heart of the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.

DAY 5 ALMORA → NAINITAL

63km, around 2 hours drive In the morning, visit Jageshwar Dham, a Hindu pilgrimage town in Almora district, to view the not-to-be-missed cluster of historical temples dating back from 9th to 13th century AD. It is a photographer’s delight and a place rich with culture. After lunch, you will be driven to Nainital. Enjoy the view of the mountainous backdrop on the way there. Once at Nainital, enjoy some shopping at the Tibetan Market along the beautiful Naini Lake, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the natural freshwater body, Naini Lake.

DAY 6 NAINITAL EXPLORATION

Surrounded by hill ranges and covered by dense forests, Nainital was a favourite grazing spot of the herders from surrounding villages, who brought their flocks to forage in the green pastures of the Valley. At an elevation of 1938 meters, with an extraordinary variety of scenery set off by imposing mountains, reflected in its limpid waters, the lake is 1372 meters long and 457 meters broad. Within a maximum depth of 29 meters, Naini Lake which seems to change its hue simultaneously with a

change in the sky, has a circumference of 3620 meters creating a beautiful promenade that skirts the lake. You will get to explore Nainital, which name derives from the Goddess Naina Devi. DAY 1 ARRIVE KOLKATA/DELHI

Arrive Kolkata/ Delhi airport. On arrival, meet with your Odyssey Manager and transfer to the hotel.

DAY 2 BAGDOGRA → DARJEELING

Domestic Flight & 94 km, 3-4 hour drive Transfer to the airport to board your scheduled domestic flight to Bagdogra. On arrival at Bagdogra Airport meet your Odyssey Manager and drive through picturesque tea gardens to the world renowned hill station Darjeeling, located at an altitude of 2134 m. Darjeeling is set amidst a majestic backdrop of the great Himalayan peak of Kangchenjunga (3rd highest peak in the world at 8586 m) and is regarded as the Queen of East India. After dinner, enjoy spending time at the local bazaar.

DAY 3 DARJEELING SIGHTSEEING

Set off early in the morning before sunrise between 4-6 am, drive up to Tiger Hill (2685 m) to experience the panoramic view of the spectacular snow-clad mountain peaks of the High Himalayan Range where sun rises from this highest point in town. On the way back visit the Ghoom Monastery, built in 1850 by Lama Sherab, which enshrines a 15 ft. statue of Maitreya Buddha. After visiting the monastery, you will be driven back to the hotel for breakfast. Spend some time relaxing before walking through a market and then to the train station to board the Toy Train Joyride to Ghoom. Visit the Ghoom Museum on arrival. After lunch, you will continue on to Darjeeling, continue the visiting tour to the Tibetan Refugee Centre and the Tea Gardens, before returning to town around 1700 hours. On arrival, spend your free time exploring or shopping around the market till 1900 hours before returning to the hotel.

DAY 4 DARJEELING → GANGTOK

100 km, 3½ hour drive + lunch & stops After breakfast, drive to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The journey is an exhilarating experience along the Teesta River and through green forest and picturesque landscape. Tucked away in the clouds, Gangtok is spread out on a ridge 1520 m above sea level, and looks something out of a fairy tale with houses precariously balanced on the slopes of steep hills, deep valleys, and snowcapped mountain ranges that separate Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal. On arrival, check in to the hotel and relax for the rest of the evening.

DAY 5 GANGTOK → TSOMGO LAKE (3 HRS) → GANGTOK

After breakfast, dress warmly and drive to Tsomgo Lake (3,780 m). The lake is filled with water of melted snow from the surrounding mountains and is one of the famous sacred lakes in Sikkim, situated near the borders of Tibet. Observe the scenery on the drive back. Take your time to explore the lake before driving back to Gangtok. Spend the rest of your afternoon relaxing or shopping in the market.

DAY 6 GANGTOK → RUMTEK → RAVANGLA → NAMCHI

140 km, 3-4 hour drive + lunch & stops After breakfast drive to visit Rumtek Monastery. Rumtek served as the main seat of the Karma Kagyu lineage in Sikkim for a while, but when Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, 16th Karmapa, arrived in Sikkim in 1959 after fleeing Tibet, the monastery was in ruins. Despite being offered other sites, the Karmapa decided to rebuild Rumtek. After visiting Rumtek monastery, drive to Singtam for lunch. You will then visit Tathagata Tsal also known as Buddha Park. It was constructed between 2006 and 2013 and features a 130 ft high statue of the Buddha as its centerpiece. The site was chosen within the larger religious complex of the Rabong Gompa (Monastery). After visiting Tathagata, drive to Namchi and transfer to the hotel. Namchi features panoramic views of the snowcapped mountains and vast stretches of valley. It is also the headquarters of the South Sikkim district.

DAY 7 NAMCHI → KALIMPONG

50 km 2½ hour drive After breakfast, drive to Samdruptse -

the world’s largest statue (118 ft) of the Buddhist Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, the patron saint of Sikkim, is situated on the Samdruptse hill (The Wish Fulfilling well) opposite Namchi. It was completed in February 2004. It is said that the Samdruptse hill is actually a dormant volcano. Legend has it that the buddhist monks have been going to the top of the hill and offering prayers to the volcano to keep it calm. After exploring Samdruptse hill, drive to Siddhesvara Dhaam where you can view a 87 ft statue of Lord Shiva and replicas of four Dhams of the country at one place at Solophok hilltop in Namchi. The four most revered Dhams of the Hindus Jagannath, Dwarika, Rameswaram, Badrinath. You will then be driven to visit Sai Temple. Return to the hotel for lunch. Then, drive through the picturesque tea gardens to the world-renowned hill station Kalimpong. After dinner, explore the local bazaar.

DAY 8 KALIMPONG → BAGDOGRA → KOLKATA/DELHI → FLY HOME

75 km, 2½ hour drive After breakfast, we drive to Bagdogra. Enjoy our lunch at the airport before boarding your scheduled flight to Kolkata/Delhi. TOUR BOOKING TERMS AND CONDITIONS You and your traveling companions are deemed to have read, understood and accepted the following terms and conditions. Incredible Odyssey Pte Ltd shall be referred to as “the Company” in the following. 1. RESERVATION, DEPOSIT & FULL PAYMENT 1.1 A deposit is required upon reservation. If your minimum deposit is less than the required amount, please top up the difference within the next two days. 1.2 Payment of deposit does not constitute confirmation of the tour. All group tours are subjected to a minimum group size (as determined by the Company) in order for the confirmation to be effected and for the departure to be finalized. 1.3 Full payment is required no later than fourteen days prior to departure. In case of tours in peak season, full payment must be made one month before departure. If full payment is not received by the stipulated deadline, the Company reserves the right to forfeit the deposit and cancel the reservation. In such an event, the cancellation fee as stated below is payable by the Customer. 2. CANCELLATION BY THE CUSTOMER 2.1 Cancellation of booking must be made in writing or in person to avoid any misunderstanding. 2.2 The following cancellation charges applied once any group tour package booking is made: No. of days between departure and receipt of cancellation notice 30 workings days or more 15-29 working days 14 working days and less

2.3 For tour products or individual components supplied by third parties, e.g. air ticket, hotel bookings, Cruises etc, cancellation fees under the terms and conditions of the respective third parties shall apply plus a minimum handling charge of S$50 per service per person. 3. CANCELLATION BY THE COMPANY 3.1 The Company acts as an agent for service suppliers. After deposit or full payment has been made, all arrangements are still subject to final confirmation by service suppliers. If due to some unforeseen circumstances the arrangement cannot be finalized and the reservation has to be cancelled, the Company will endeavour to notify the Customer at least one week before departure. At times due to low subscription for a group tour, the Company may choose to cancel the entire tour fourteen days prior to departure. 3.2 The Company may recommend alternative tours either to the same destination or other tours, based on the tour fare of that cancellation period. Should the customer decide not to accept the alternatives, a full refund on the amount paid by the customer will be made accordingly by the Company without further obligation. 3.3 The Customer shall receive the refund within four to six weeks upon the Company notifying the Customer of the cancellation. 3.4 The Company shall also not be held liable for any contingent costs incurred by the Customer arising from the cancellation. 4. REFUND POLICY 4.1 No refund will be made with respect to accommodation, meals, sightseeing tours or any other services included in the tour fare but not utilized by the Customer, either in part or full, or when the Customer amends, cancels or otherwise changes any arrangements after commencement of the tour. 4.2 All refund will be made within four to six weeks in a form of cheque. For credit card payment, refund will be made through the credit card company. 4.3 Air tickets with refund value will only be refunded to customers four to six weeks after the respective airlines have refunded to the Company. The standard processing period for air tickets refund varies from three to six months (subject to individual airlines). 4.4 During peak period, the refund process may be longer due to increase in transactions. 5. AMENDMENT TO BOOKINGS (REQUESTED BY PASSENGERS) 5.1 For any changes in departure date or tour type, cancellation charges apply as listed under section on “Cancellation by the Customer”. 5.2 For every request made regardless of whether any previous amendments was confirmed by airlines, hotel or otherwise, there will be a minimum fee of S$100 per person per amendment. This does not include any other charges imposed by the airlines, ground operator or hotel. 5.3 Any change made by the Customer to the existing booking must be in writing or in person at least fourteen days before the tour, after which strictly NO amendments allowed, or cancellation charge applies. 6. AMENDMENT TO TOUR ITINERARY BY COMPANY The Company makes reasonable effort to avoid changes in the itinerary. However, the Company reserves the right to make minor changes at any time due to unforeseen circumstances, especially during peak periods or in the event of other circumstances beyond our control. 7. EXTENSION OF STAY / DEVIATION 7.1 Extension of stay may be permitted at the end of tour, subject to the restriction of the air ticket, seat availability and hotel confirmation prior to the commencement of the tour. All requests must be made before issuance of air tickets. If the extension of stay / deviation is unable to be confirmed three weeks prior to the group’s departure date, the passenger is deemed to stick to the original tour schedule. In the event that the original schedule has been changed by the Company, any extra cost will be borne by the Customer. 7.2 Extension of stay / deviation will be at passenger’s own expenses and transfer to the airport will not be provided. 7.3 It is the Customer’s responsibility to hold firm confirmation of their return flight and to re-confirm their flight 72 hours prior to their return date. 7.4 The air ticket issued is a special ticket, restricted to specific airline only. It is non-negotiable, nonendorsable, non-reissuable, non- refundable & non-reroutable. Any alteration in routing or dates by the Customer is solely at his/her own risk. The Company and its associated agents will not be held responsible for any inconvenience caused and extra expenses incurred. No refunds will be made for any unused air ticket, accommodation, meals, or sightseeing in part or full. 8. TRAVEL DOCUMENTS, TRAVEL INSURANCE & TRAVEL VOUCHERS 8.1 Passport and other Travel Documents It is Customer’s sole responsibility to ensure that he / she has a valid passport with minimum 6 months validity from the date of scheduled return to Singapore, as well as the necessary visas, vaccinations, health certificates and all necessary travel documents as required by various government authorities of the destinations of travel. 8.2 Visa 8.2.1 The Customer may seek advice from the Company on visa application; however it is Customer’s own responsibility to obtain a valid visa. 8.2.2 If for any reason, application for visa or exit permit is rejected, full refund less S$100 administrative fee (excluding visa application fees paid to the respective embassies) will be made if the result of the rejection is submitted to the Company at least 35 days prior to departure. If less than 35 days’ notice is given, relevant cancellation fee as stated under section “Cancellation by the Customer” will be applied. 8.2.3 In consideration for the interests of other passengers in the same group, the Company strongly discourage ALL passengers from applying Visa upon Arrival at destiny country. The Company takes no responsibility being

unable to wait for the passengers who apply Visa upon Arrival at the Custom. 8.2.4 The Company will not be responsible for any expenses, reimbursement or refund of the tour fare if the Customer is deported or refused entry by immigration authorities on the tour for whatever reasons, including improper travel documents, quarantine, custom regulations, possession of unlawful items or irregularities that may cause harm or damage to person or property. 8.3 Travel Insurance 8.3.1 Arrangement of travel insurance coverage is strongly recommended with respect to unforeseen circumstances such as trip cancellation, loss of deposit, baggage, personal accident, injury, illness, etc. Under no circumstances shall the Company be constructed as a carrier under a contract for safe carriage of the Customer or his / her baggage and other personal belongings. 8.3.2 The Company shall not be responsible for any loss or damage in relation to trip cancellation, loss of personal baggage, accidents, injuries and illness. 8.3.3 Should there be any amendment to the date and duration of travel, it is Customer’s responsibility to inform the travel insurance company to amend the date and duration of the insurance coverage. 8.3.4 The Company will be pleased to assist in the enquiries of any travel insurance and related matters. 8.4 Travel Vouchers The company issues travel vouchers from time to time as part of its promotional activities. The terms and conditions for the redemption of travel vouchers are clearly spelt out in the appropriate documents and shall be binding on the Customer. 9. GENERAL MATTERS RELATING TO TOURS 9.1 Accommodation Accommodation is as specified in the tour brochure / itinerary / tour booking form. In the event the specified accommodation is not available, every effort will be made to scout for an alternative in another accommodation of similar standard. Accommodation for adults is based on twin- share, double or triple-share bedrooms. Please note that the third bed usually will be a “roll-away” bed. Single room occupancy is at additional cost. 9.2 Baggage The Customer is allowed check-in baggage not exceeding 20 kilograms. Only one piece of hand luggage not exceeding 7 kilograms is allowed on board the aircraft. Excess baggage must be paid directly by the Customer. 9.3 Meals Meals, including meals on board flights, are as indicated in the tour brochure / itinerary / tour booking form. If meals on board are not served due to whatever reasons, there shall be no refund or replacement. 9.4 Seat Rotation For the convenience of all members of the group, passengers may be requested to rotate their seating arrangements on the coach during the period of the tour. Please cooperate when requested upon to do so by the tour manager / tour leader / guide. 9.5 Special Request If there are any requests regarding special meals, dietary requirements, adjoining rooms, flight seating arrangement and so on, please inform the Company upon booking. However, such requests are strictly subject to confirmation and availability by the airlines/hotels. 10. PRICING POLICIES 10.1 Tour Fare Includes Return economy class group tour air ticket, local transport, accommodation, admission fees, meals and sightseeing programme as stipulated in the tour brochure / itinerary / tour booking form. 10.2 Tour Fare Excludes Airport taxes, airport security taxes, airline insurance surcharges, fuel taxes, visa fees, travel insurance, customs user fees as specified by the airline and airport authorities; local transfer not stated in the itinerary (e.g. free & easy, deviation), laundry, excess baggage charges, beverages, room services, gratuities to drivers and tour managers / local guides and tips to hotel porters (if any); and personal expenses. Please refer to the Company for visa fees, gratuities to drivers and tour managers / local guides, and tips to hotel porters. 10.3 Child Fare Child fare is applicable to children below 12 years old on the scheduled date of departure from Singapore. The child fare is based on a twin-sharing accommodation with two adults and no additional bed will be provided. A surcharge will be imposed where an extra bed is required for the child or where the child occupies a room with only one adult. 10.4 Mode of Payment Payment may be made in cash, by NETS, cheques or credit cards. Cheques will only be accepted if presented to the Company at least seven working days before scheduled tour departure. Credit card payment may incur additional surcharge for special promotion packages, you may refer to our staff for confirmation. 11. RESPONSIBILITY 11.1 The Company acts as agent for the carriers, transportation companies, hotels and other principals of the tour packages. The Company accepts no responsibility for any injuries, losses, damages, accidents, delays, theft, quarantine, customs regulations, strikes, weather hazards, political unrest, changes in itineraries, deportation or refusal of entry by Immigration Authorities resulting from improper travel documents, possession of unlawful items or irregularities that may be caused to person or property. Any losses and/or expenses incurred are the responsibility of the passenger. All proper travel documentation is the sole responsibility of the Customer. 11.2 The failure of the Customer to follow reasonable instructions including but not limited to check-in and check-out places or times or other cause and the losses and/or expenses resulting therefore shall be borne by the Customer. 11.3 The Company reserves the right to: 11.3.1 Alter tour itineraries, travel arrangements, accommodation due to unforeseen changes. 11.3.2 Cancel any reservations prior to departure for reasons including but not limited to the insufficient number of participants. The Company will recommend alternative tours, preferably to the same destination or to other destination. Should the Customer decided not to accept the alternatives, the deposit or tour fare to be refunded without further obligation on the part of the Company, upon Customer’s surrender to the Company of all documents issued by the Company for the purpose of the tour package. 11.3.3 Require any individual to withdraw from the tour if it is deemed that his/her behaviour is detrimental to or incompatible with the health, safety, interests, harmony and welfare of the other tour participants and the tour group as a whole. Under such circumstances, the Company shall be under no liability thereafter to any such person. 11.3.4 To specify the language in which the tour guide will conduct commentary in. 11.4 No tour guides, tour managers, tour leaders or other employees or agents of the Company are authorized to commit the Company to any liability and the Company shall not be bound by any statement or representation unless it is in writing and signed by a Management Executive of the Company. 11.5 The Company reserve the right to take photographs and films of the passenger while on tour with the Company, to be used for brochures advertising or publicity material without obtaining any further consent from the passenger. 11.6 All tour fares for the respective tour packages are correct at the time of reservation. The Company reserves the right to revise the tour fares and to determine the date of commencement of such revised tour fares. 12. COMPLAINT & CLAIM Any complaint / claim have to be made in writing within 7 days from the date of return. No responsibility is accepted in respect of any complaints / claims, which are made after 7 days of return. 13. MISCELLANEOUS The Company reserves the right to change, amend, insert or delete any Tour Booking Terms and Conditions containing in this document, as the case may be, without prior notice. The Tour Booking Terms and Conditions complement those terms and conditions contained in the relevant documents provided by third party service providers such as airline or cruise tickets, hotel check-ins etc.
