Hoppang derives its name from Korean onomatopoeia or vocabulary “ho ho” for blowing on hot food and the sounds of laughter. Similar to steamed chinese buns, it is cooked in a steamer and has an assortment of fillings from sweet red bean paste to juicy meat fillings. This satisfying snack is usually found in any convenience store or street vendors. Price: average 700 - 1,000 won

Eomuk (fish cake) are usually prepared on skewers and boiled in a flavoured broth. You will be able to find it on food trucks. They best complement snacks such as the spicy Tteokbokki. Moreover, any order you get from the truck will come with unlimited refills of eomuk broth that will definitely make this your tastiest trip to Korea. Price: average 500 - 1,000 won

Tteokbokki is undoubtedly the number one Korean street food that tantalises tastebuds with a distinctive spicy and sweet flavour. Rice cakes are cooked to attain a perfect chewy texture, with fish cake and various vegetables mixed in with red pepper paste. If you’re ever up for some Tteokbokki, do try other flavours such as curry, cheese and jiajing (black soybean sauce). Price: average 2,500 - 3,500 won

Korea’s winter lasts from December to February. It is usually cold and dry with temperatures ranging -6 to 3 degree celsius on average, but travellers will still need to be prepare for a sudden drop of temperature, sometimes down to -10 degree celsius. Due to heavy snowfall at mountainous regions such as Taebaek Mountains and Sobaek Mountains, winter is especially exhilarating in Korea as there are a diverse number winter activities available, most accompanied with magnificent views. Although indoor areas and public transportation are well-equipped with heating systems, it is still important to get a good scarf and a woollen sweater to keep yourself warm. You could also add or remove layers as necessary. However, if you are gearing up for outdoor winter activities, anti-slip and waterproof shoes/boots, gloves, hats and a thick coat are essential. If layering is not enough, utilise hot packs to warm your body instead of just your hands. These hot packs last for hours and will help you survive the cold Korean winters.

These Korean pancakes are the perfect comfort food on a cold day. They are served in an incredible mix of sweetness, crisp-and-chewy texture. Hotteok is a lightly fried pancake that comes with a gooey, melted sweet filling made of brown sugar, peanuts and cinnamon. Though recent variations include fillings of vegetables or seeds, many still favour the traditional flavour. Price: average 700 - 1,000 won

JOGJA: WHERE CULTURE AND TRADITION PRECEDES MODERNITY

Known for its cultural heritage sites that transcend time, Jogja thrives as a modern city entrenched in historical significance. WORDS BY : Angelia TK

L

anding at the Adisucipto International Airport, I found myself in less familiar grounds as I moved past crowds whilst scanning the numerous held up signs. Soon I was greeted by my guide - a man in his mid-forties - his disarmingly friendly personality would soon mark the first of many easy-going encounters I would have with countless others living in this wonderful city. As we drove through the narrow streets packed with scooters of all shapes and sizes, my gregarious guide introduced various places as our driver skillfully navigated us through the busy traffic. We reached the Grand Zuri in less than an hour and were warmly welcomed by the staff. Situated in the heart of Jogja, the three-star establishment remains close to the bustling Malioboro Road and the city’s iconic Tugu Monument. As a compact city known for its cultural and historical sights, Yogyakarta or better known as Jogja, possesses a multitude of attractions, which have both transcended time and stood as a testament to the rich culture and heritage of the region. Although the city’s finest attractions lie on the outskirts of the bustling city centre, travellers can easily find many other places of interest in and around the main center of town. One such prominent landmark is the Tugu Jogja or the Jogja Monument. Situated in the heart of the city, the structure stands at the crossroad between the Mangkubumi, Soedirman, A.M. Sangaji and Diponegoro. Built a year after the construction of the Yogyakarta Kingdom, this white tower has been erect for almost three centuries. Representing the spirit of togetherness or golong gilig in Javanese, the monument was a symbol of the union of the people and the authorities standing against the colonials. Another theory suggests that this structure is the physical representation of the relationship man and the Creator shared.

Central Java and Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the volcano is well-known for its persistent and frequent volcanic activity. If you’re interested in exploring and learning more about this breathtaking site, consider joining the Jeep Lava Tour Merapi + Merapi Volcano Museum tour, which will not only take you up to the volcano, but also give you a deeper understanding of the scale of destruction Mount Merapi caused in 2010. The close to two-hour bumpy ride across the rough, uphill and downhill terrain took us through several winding tracks. As we passed the lush, green plains surrounding the region, our tour guide explained that before the eruption in 2010, the whole region was barren, without a

The next day I found myself on the passenger seat of a Toyota jeep heading towards the most active volcano in Indonesia: Mount Merapi. Located on the border between

single tree in sight. We continued our way up the mountain, making a short pit-stop at the Merapi Volcano Museum. At first glance, the ruins of the former village might not hold any semblance of a house. With most of its roof and exterior walls missing, it looks more like a makeshift exhibit. However, as I moved closer to inspect the contents of the museum, I began to understand how truly devastating the 2010 eruption was. Various pictures took during the time of the eruption hung on the walls of the museum, amongst them was a haunting picture of a mass funeral. Damaged household items, burnt furniture and even a skeleton of a cow that perished during the volcanic eruption was propped up on display.

15 | Travel Journal | Issue 14 | December 2016 Bouncing and lurching forward, our jeep continued traversing up the rugged mountain terrain. After a relatively short and bumpy ride, we reached our destination. Although the thick fog covered the stratovolcano from view, the place was no less amazing. The cool climate coupled with the scenic view of the expansive rocky landscape was enough to take one’s breath away. Besides the stunning scenery, the area is also known for its dark past - namely for the unfortunate death of two men, who in attempt to escape the eruption hid in the underground bunker. Ironically, the bunker, which was supposed to keep people safe during an eruption, became a death trap.

Ramayana Ballet

My tour of Mount Merapi concluded with the driver parking the jeep somewhat precariously on the edge of a cliff and getting out to take more photos of his passengers. After the exhilarating adventure, I headed to watch the Ramayana Ballet in Prambanan. Utilising the imposing Prambanan Temple as a backdrop, the performance took place on an open air stage with over 200 professional dancers and musicians bringing the epic Hindu poem alive. The ballet, presented without any dialogues and narrations, relied on the dancers’ expressions and movements to convey emotions and to ultimately tell the story. To understand the full plot, audiences may obtain flyers, or simply watch the projections that will help them keep track of the performance at real time. The performance reached its climax when the props on and at the back of the stage were set on fire, which took place when Hanuman was sentence to be burned alive. Even though I was seated further back, I could feel the heat emanating from the fires. Since the ballet only takes place on scheduled dates, it’s advisable to call in to reserve seats. After getting on stage and spending some time with the actors, I headed back to the hotel for some much needed rest from the day’s activities.

Borobudur

On my final day in Jogja, I explored the renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site, Borobudur. As a place known for its stunning sunrise, I woke up at 3 am to climb the ancient steps and experienced the full splendor of the site. Reaching the third section, or rather the highest platform, I waited - along with numerous other eager souls - for the main highlight. As the sun peeked out of the clouds and the mist dissipated, the entire compound was illuminated by the radiant rays. Beyond the Borobudur temple, the vast fertile volcanic Kedu Plain, or better known as the Progo River Valley came into view. The early morning

Statue of Buddha at Borobudur Temple

mist still hung low over the plain; the outline of the surrounding mountains served as a picturesque backdrop against the hemispherical form of the stupas sitting on the circular platforms. An interesting fact is that each of the 72 openwork stupas contain a statue of the Buddha. Additionally, visitors will also get to see the ancient basreliefs depicting the life of Gautama Buddha and other significant historical events that etched into the ancient walls of the temple. Built to embody the Buddhist cosmology, the temple is divided into three major zones, namely Kamadhatu, Rupadhatu and Arupadhatu. These rising layers, especially Kamadhatu and Rupadhatu represent the sphere of desires that most are bound to, whereas Arupadhatu describes nirvana and sunyata worlds. From a bird’s-eye view, the temple resembles a traditional Buddhist mandala - a sacred symbol in Buddhism and Hinduism. After exploring Borobudur, it wasn’t surprising to hear my stomach growling as I descended the steep - sweaty palms inducing - blocks of temple steps. Luckily for me, lunch was only a few minutes away. I tucked in at the Manohara Hotel Borobudur, which was easily accessible via a footpath that led me straight to the hotel from the temple grounds. Preceding an early and sumptuous dinner at the 101 hotel, which is located mere minutes away from the Grand Zuri, I spent my final night in this mystical and intriguing city watching the Jogja Night Carnival. Celebrating the city’s 260th anniversary, the event took place at the

crossroads of Mangkubumi, Soedirman, A.M. Sangaji and Diponegoro, where the Tugu Monument stood. As the city’s biggest event, the parade was accompanied with a multitude of dancers adorning elaborate costumes, largerthan-life floats and many other vibrant transit displays. With my final night in Jogja ending on a high-note, I tucked myself into bed reminiscing the rich offerings of this beautiful city.

Special thanks to Tourism and Culture Office of Yogyakarta City and Yetti Martanti, S.Sos, MM Chief Promotion and Cooperation Division for organising the Jogja Familiarisation Trip. For more information, please log on to http://www. indonesia.travel/en

Taj Mahal from afar

Hawa Mahal, Jaipur

TAJ MAHAL, AN EVERLASTING TESTAMENT OF LOVE

M

ost are familiar with the Seven Wonders of the World, although they present themselves in different categories - New 7 Wonders of the World, Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, etc - there are some that have simply surpassed human expectations, in terms of structure and beauty. These man-made monuments are not only renowned for their imposing architecture, but also for the rich histories they encapsulate. India has always been a place that charms travellers with its rich offerings of cultural and historical sights. India’s Golden Triangle, which consists of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, are three of the most visited cities in India. With each city located approximately 200-250 km from each other, it is relatively easy to get from one place to another since all three places are connected by road and rail links. The popular route between Delhi to Jaipur was called the “Golden” Triangle for its abundant man-made splendours, which encapsulate the culture and history of the country. The famed tourist circuit features some of the world’s most iconic sights. As the capital of India, Delhi is a sprawling metropolis, where age-old ruins and high-rise buildings share the capital’s skyline. Whereas Jaipur, the capital of India’s Rajasthan state is known for its notable monuments, including the Hawa Mahal - a palace in Jaipur. Finally, the ancient city of Agra mesmerises travellers with one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, the renowned Taj Mahal. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, the Taj Mahal is an iconic structure that has become a tangible expression of Muslim art and a universally admired masterpiece. Situated in the ancient city of Agra, the Taj Mahal is an architectural feat that became a testament of Shah Jahan’s undying love for his wife. In addition to being a memorial for his one true love, the mausoleum is the finest example of Mughal architecture. The mausoleum which took 22 years to complete, combines Persian, Indian and Islamic architectural styles. Arabic inscriptions in black adorn the white, marble surface of both the south gateway and main mausoleum of the structure. The walls, embellished with text from the Qur’an, encapsulate the Islamic belief of the afterlife. The entire Taj Mahal complex comprises of a main gateway, a garden, a mosque, a guest house and finally the main mausoleum. The main gateway, which precedes

the domed tomb is 93 feet high and is constructed in red sandstone. Similar to the walls of the main mausoleum, the exteriors of the gateway greets visitors with Arabic calligraphy along with intricate designs of flowers, leaves and vines. Most visitors will be captivated by the amazing artwork of the main gate, however it’s the optical illusion that really draws one’s attention. As one approaches the white mausoleum from the main gate, the Taj Mahal would appear to be moving further away. As travellers pass through the main gateway, they behold the wondrous sight of the Taj Mahal gardens, also known as the Charbagh Garden. Beyond that lies the mosque, mausoleum and the guest house. The mosque made of red sandstone sits on the left of the Taj and is believed to sanctify the area. It is still used to this day for prayers. The Taj itself stands on a raised platform with four minarets positioned on each corner of the structure, which were built to deliberately slant outwards. This was done to prevent the pillars from falling onto the tomb in an event of an earthquake. The central dome is flanked by four chhatris and beneath the ivory-white dome, lies the cenotaphs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. In addition to having regular pronouncements about the individual, the epitaphs have

Taj Mahal, Agra

verses from the Holy Quran. The best times to visit the Taj Mahal is during the winter season, from October to December, or from February to March. The climate tends to be a lot more cooler compared to the extremely dry and hot season from April to June, where temperatures can reach up to 50°C. If you would like to avoid crowds, it’s best to visit this renowned world wonder before sunrise. Do note that tripods, batteries, portable chargers, lighters, smoking, food are prohibited inside the Taj Mahal. It is also advisable that travellers use the South entry gate to avoid crowds, as tour groups mainly enter from the East and West gates. elcome to the land of the pharaohs, which was once ruled by what most believed to be the descendents of the gods and goddesses of Egypt. Where the likes of Cleopatra, Tutankhamun, Khufu, and many other Egyptian royalties were worshipped, revered and respected. Renowned for its abundance of statues, temples and monuments, Egypt’s treasures mystify travellers even to this day. In ancient civilisation, Egyptians nestled along the mighty Nile River, which served as their only source for food, water and shelter. As the longest river in the world, the Nile originates inside Burundi, flowing northward to Africa and eventually flowing through Egypt and draining into the Mediterranean Sea. It played an extremely important role in the civilisation, life and history of the Egyptian nation. It was also the best way for Egyptians to travel and trade along the River Nile to sustain its wealth and power. Cairo, Egypt’s bustling capital, sits on the banks of the iconic Nile River. The city is marked by the traditions and influences of the East and the West and reflects its rich history through its remnants of antiquity. The Nile

Giza, alongside the Sphinx, are some of the oldest and arguably most impressive in the world. Situated on the outskirts of Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza have been a major tourist attraction for years. The overall complex includes several cemeteries, a workers village, an industrial complex and three pyramid complexes - two of which were built for the kings Khafre ( in the middle) and Menkaure (smallest of the three), and one for Khufu himself (the largest of the three). There are also three smaller structures known as “queen’s” pyramids located adjacent to Khufu’s pyramid. Although the Pyramids of Giza are a testament to ancient Egyptian planning and ingenuity, it is the Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Khufu) that has been renowned for its size, structure, and near perfect proportions. Built for the Fourth Dynasty Pharaoh Khufu (or Cheops), it is the oldest monument on the list of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Initially standing at 481 ft., the pyramid was the tallest structure in the world for close to 4,000 years. However, due to erosion, it now stands at 449.5ft. Weighing 6.5 million tons, the Great Pyramid was built with 2.3 million blocks, with each block averaging 2.5 tons each. Individual blocks of stone had to be cut, transported and assembled with precision to build Khufu’s Great Pyramid. Some believe that the structure was completed with the use of ramps, which were used to hoist the massive blocks up to the top of the pyramid. However, some theorise that the Egyptians utilised rope rolls to haul the stone blocks up the flank of the pyramid.

Interestingly enough, the Pyramids of Giza were once encased in polished limestone that reflected the rays of the sun brilliantly across the land. However, over the centuries most of the limestone covering the structures were removed and were used to build mosques, bridges and palaces. The vast complex also houses the massive structure of the Great Sphinx - a guardian statue carved in limestone with the head of a man and the body of a lion. Measuring 240 feet long and 66 feet in height, the limestone statue is one of the world’s largest and oldest statue in the world. San Francisco

Whether it’s the sparkling blue bay, quaint Victorian homes, or the distinguishable crimson bridge that stands out against San Francisco skyline, this Californian city enchants travellers with its many offerings. Connecting San Francisco to California’s northern countries, the bridge spans 2.7-kilometers across with towers rising 227 meters. Famed for its noteworthy architectural

Pier 39

feat, the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the city’s most prized jewels. The landmark was opened to the public in 1937 after a long four-year construction that battled against the natural elements. The bridge, recognised as one of the seven world wonders of the modern world, was painted in International Orange to provide visibility in the fog for passing ships. The prominent structure has been featured in many films and series, including X-Men: The Last Stand - a 2006 summer blockbuster. Known as “the crookedest street in the world”, Lombard Street possesses some of the steepest and scenic streets in the country. The winding roads were ntentionally constructed with sharp curves to prevent accidents. Besides boasting sights of pastel-coloured Victorian mansions, the street also has famous homes that were featured on television, including the Real World House, which accommodated the cast from the TV-show of the same name. Pier 39 is another notable attraction in San Francisco. The 45-acre waterfront complex accommodates 14 full-service

Lone Cypress, Pebble Beach

restaurants, over 90 stores and other popular attractions. In addition to providing countless dining, shopping and entertainment options, Pier 39 is close to well-known sights such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge and Alcatraz. From the Aquarium of the Bay to the San Francisco Whale Tours, visitors can also consider dropping by the various attractions located within and around Pier 39. EXCLUSIVE DEALS AT TRAVEL MALAYSIA 2016 Travel Malaysia 2016 came back bigger than ever to offer travellers with the best deals for the year-end holidays.

Mr Joe Lim President of EEBA, giving the welcome speech

T

ravel Malaysia 2016 successfully ran its 19th edition from the 14th to the 16th of October 2016 at Hall 6B of the Singapore EXPO Convention & Exhibition Centre. Organised by IBT Investment Pte Ltd and supported by Express & Excursion Bus Association (EEBA), the fair drew a total of 46,000 people. In co-operation with Tourism Malaysia, exhibitors included travel agents, state tourism boards, hotels and resorts as well as a slew of new attractions. Major players in the travel industry offered a unique range of attractions and holiday packages for the year-end holidays. A grand total of 35 exhibitors were present at Hall 6B and the fair saw a steady stream of visitors over the course of the three days. Tourism Perak had one of the most prominent booths at the fair. The state was clearly revving up for the upcoming

Angry Bird’s Performance on stage year, with its ‘Visit Perak Year 2017’ campaign. With many Singaporeans familiar with states such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang and even Malacca, the state of Perak hoped to change mindsets and provide a fresh perspective on how best to experience Perak. A few booths away from Tourism Perak was The Haven Hotel and Resorts, promoting exquisite luxury resort stays and excellent promotional deals. The hotel is located a mere 15-minute drive from the city centre. Situated in the heart of Ipoh, The Haven is nestled in the midst of a forest; surrounded by lush

Besides finding out more about travelling to different parts of Malaysia and booking quick getaways, visitors could also enjoy stage performances and freebies such as goodie bags given away by Travel Journal. Many patrons of the fair also walked away with some fantastic lucky draw prizes; from a three-night cruise on board Star Cruises to hotel stays and complimentary treatment vouchers, there were more than just travel packages up for grabs. The next Travel Malaysia 2017 will be held from the 21st to 23rd April of 2017 at Singapore Expo. See you there! For more information, please log on to http://www. ebaa.sg/

PAHANG: THE PEARL OF THE ORIENT Often known as “The Pearl of the Orient”, this Malaysian state captivates travellers with its diverse historical sights, local delights and sun-kissed beaches.

Kuantan

Situated near the mouth of the Kuantan River, Kuantan, the capital of Pahang is the largest city on the East Coast. The state is known for being a bustling tourist hub that boasts beaches with sweeping coastlines and includes many other natural highlights. Travellers visiting this state can drop by the beautiful seaside village at Beserah, where they can observe the interesting day to day life of villagers. With its close proximity to the sea, the city is also well-known for its fresh seafood. Located 5km east from the town centre in Kuantan, Teluk Cempedak captivates travellers with its white sandy beaches, beautiful casuarinas and pine trees lining the coast. Home to several top-notch hotels, this place provides all the facilities for a comfortable stay while offering various activities, including watersports and trekking. A short trek through the Teluk Cempedak Forest Reserve will take one to the

Cameron Highlands

idyllic Pelindung Beach. More trekking activities are available en route from the beach to the mini zoo nearby at Taman Teruntum, which provides an exciting and exhilarating time. Another notable mention would be Cherating, a beach town in Pahang that’s located 47 km north of Kuantan. Relatively peaceful, this town is ideal for travellers looking to spend some quality time with their loved ones in a quiet setting. The region is also a popular surfing destination that attracts surfers from all over to compete in the surf festival that takes place at the height of the monsoon season.

Tioman Island

Tioman Island is the largest island on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Additionally, it is also a sought-after beach destination that boasts pristine waters, wonderful diving and snorkelling opportunities; and the occasional visit by the sea turtles. Travellers can utilise the footpaths connecting to the various villages (Kampungs) to get around, as much of the island is roadless. This also means naturelovers will get an upclose and personal encounter with the myriad of wildlife inhabiting the island. Juara Beach - nestled within a secluded bay along the east coast of Pulau Tioman and located directly across the island from Tekek - is a notable spot for those looking for a quiet retreat amongst the coconut trees and the tranquil atmosphere. Unlike most resorts, the hotels in Juara Beach offer budget accommodations. Since ferries don’t stop here, the best way to get to the beach would be to take a 4WD taxi, which will provide transport from Tekek to Juara via a road that cuts through the island’s central mountain range.

Taman Negara

Cherating

Tioman Island

Explore the 130 million-year-old rainforest in Pahang. As Malaysia’s premier national park, Taman Negara covers 434,350 hectares comprising of ancient trees, limestone caves, cascading waterfalls and jungle-clad mountains. Travellers can start their adventure at Malaysia’s largest green

Taman Negara

sanctuary with a cruise along the Tahan River, followed by a hike up the 334m Teresek Hill for a panoramic view of Mount Tahan, Peninsular Malaysia’s highest point. Another must-see is the famed Taman Negara Canopy Walk, the world’s longest suspension bridge, which is 40-meter above ground and 530-meter long. In addition, the guided night jungle walks will allow visitors to discover another the side of the jungle that comes alive at night. While here, one may also wish to visit the age-old limestone caves situated within Taman Negara, which is home to a diverse species of bats, racer snakes and many fascinating insects. Bera Lake, situated within Taman Negara, is also the site of the largest freshwater swamp in Peninsular. Covering an area of over 24,000 hectares, the lake is surrounded by a thick forest, which has an ecosystem that sustains a multitude of flora and fauna, but also supports the livelihood of the Semelai Aborigines who live in the wetlands. Visitors can spend hours cruising or kayaking on the lake. Merapoh Cave is another newly discovered tourist

s the largest state in Peninsular Malaysia, Pahang has a multitude of attractions that reflect the distinctive blend of East and West elements. From the scenic splendours of Tioman Island to the sprawling tea plantations of Cameron Highlands, Pahang houses sights that keeps even the most seasoned traveller coming back for more.

30 | Travel Journal | Issue 14 | December 2016 attraction in Kuala Lipis, Pahang. There are some 500 limestone outcrops here at this caving paradise and many of them are unexplored. The best time to visit this area is during the dry season between February – September, when the temperature ranges from between 25 – 37 degree celsius. Additionally, it is also the best time for bird watchers, who can encounter over 380 resident bird species during the mating season. But it’s not all just sand, sea and surf that can be found along the coast. An interesting highlight of the region is the Bebar Peat Swamp Forest or simply the Black Water Jewel. It derives its name from the Bebar River that flows through the area of an aboriginal settlement called Runchang, to the coastal fishing village of Nenasi in Pekan. The flora and fauna in this area has adapted to cope with high water levels and has in turn become a habitat that sustains unique plant and animal life like the endangered Painter Terrapin- a species of freshwater turtle.

Highlands

Other exciting and interesting places to visit are the highlands in Pahang. Cameron Highlands offers wonderful exploration of farms and tea plantations positioned more than 1500m above sea level. The region features moderate temperature, abundant rainfall, long-hours of sunshine and well-drained soil just perfect for all manner of agriculture. A trip to the Cameron Highlands will not be complete without a visit to the lush, green tea plantation that Malaysia’s largest hill resort is known for. Nature lovers can take advantage of the hill station’s many hiking pathways of varying difficulties to explore the region. Another popular hill resort destination is Fraser’s Hill, which is situated 1,524m above sea level on the Titiwangsa mountain range. Known for being a bird-watching destination, this region houses over 270 species of local and migratory birds. Fraser’s Hill provides a conducive environment for travellers looking for some rest and respite from the bustling city life. Here, visitors can enjoy various sights of colonial style bungalows, thriving flower gardens and scenic views of the surrounding mountain range. In line with Visit Pahang Year 2017, Tourism Pahang has come up with a spectacular lineup of annual festivities, ranging from world-class sporting events to days celebrating the wonders of nature. veryone loves a good travel deal - and that was exactly what Travel Treats wanted to offer. On the weekend of the 15th and 16th of October, a group of 14 travel agents gathered at Hall A of the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in an attempt to attract travellers who had yet to book their year-end holidays. Approximately two weeks after the conclusion of Travel Revolution Fair (TRF), the official Facebook page hinted at an ‘encore’ fair, presumably thanks to the overwhelming support and demand received during the three day event. Travel Treats

turned out to be a ‘scaled-down, targeted event’ - as the organisers put it - and put together for travelers who were on the hunt for a good travel deal.

Those who had missed out on booking a holiday at the travel fairs that took place in the month of August had the opportunity to revisit some of their favourite travel agents at Travel Treats. Booths such as Asia Global Vacation, Chan’s World Holidays, and EU Holidays. Travellers looking to get insured got deals up to 30% off at AIG Travel Insurance. Besides browsing through holiday packages, fair-goers also had the opportunity to take fun pictures at Travel Journal’s photo booth. With a backdrop proudly sponsored by Tourism Authority of Thailand, one could pose in front of a ‘Floating Market’ - an iconic fixture found in many different parts in the land of smiles. Participants at the photo booth also walked away with goodie bags and a chance to win a luxurious hotel stay. For more information, please visit http://www. facebook.com/traveltreats
