Sticking by your New Year’s resolution is undoubtedly the single hardest thing most people face - or at least I can attest to this. So anything to make it easier and exciting is welcomed! FitnessFest will inject some of that sorely needed enthusiasm into your moderately active if not sluggish lifestyle. Taking place at the Bayfront Event Space, FitnessFest will be spearheaded by celebrity instructors, as well instructors from local gyms and studios like UFIT and WeBarre. Besides the workouts, there will also be a number of workshops and talks conducted to keep you on the right track - dietary wise. This heart-pumping event will kick start the journey to a new you in more ways than one.
Since its establishment in 1993 the Le French May Arts has grown to become one of the largest cultural events in Asia. This year, the event has organised a specially curated list of exhibitions, performances, films, special events and educational outreach programs. Some of these cultural highlights include exhibitions showcasing mural drawing and large-scale “cut-out” sculptures - Nicolas Buffe: The Dream of Polifilo, lively ballet performances, numerous musical acts by renowned artists, and a multitude of workshops and masterclasses. The festival’s line-up will take place in various locations, including unconventional locations such as, cultural centres, shopping malls, public spaces etc.
See the capital of New South Wales in a whole new light! Vivid Sydney invites the best and the brightest designers and artists to transform the bustling metropolis of Sydney into a vibrant city embellished with neon lights, interactive installations and large-scale projections. The festival first started lighting up the night skies of Sydney in 2009 with the intention of promoting tourism in Sydney during winter. Vivid Sydney has come a long way since then, with millions of attendees turning up every year. The organisers of the event streamlined the yearly happening into three categories: Light, Music and Ideas. The eclectic mix of programs and performances makes use of spaces in ingenious ways to express art in every shape and size possible.

hina has numerous attractions that captivate travellers from all over the world. From its man-made attractions to its countless natural attractions, China takes visitors on an unforgettable journey that is full of adventure and excitement. However, it’s the lesser known regions of the country that draws visitors from all over the world.
Mohe Arctic Village
The last place anyone would think to travel to see the elusive Northern Lights is China, that being said, the Mohe Arctic Village is the best place for observing the Northern Lights in China. The perfect time to visit the tranquil village is in summer - from June to August. During this period, travellers can enjoy the best weather as the temperature remains at an average of 2.8 degree Celsius. Visiting around this time will also provide them with more time visiting and engaging in various activities, as the village will encounter 17 hours of daylight. The northernmost village in China is located in the Mohe County, in the Heilongjiang Province. The idyllic village was built in the 1960s and covers an area of 16 square kilometres. Dubbed China’s North Pole, this destination is perfect for exploring alone or with your loved ones, this is especially true when you’re travelling with kids.

The volcanic eruptions has created a multitude of landforms, including lava cascades, lava stalactites, and lava passages. Travellers can drop by the tourist attractions to explore this place more thoroughly. Some of these places are the Longmen Stone Village, which is a volcanic landscape, the Wenpo Lake - a volcanic lake and the Laohei Volcano Scenic Area, which houses the two youngest volcanoes in China.
Hulunbuir Grasslands
Situated in the northeast of inner Mongolia, the Hulunbuir Grasslands is steeped in legend and intrigue. It is believed that two siblings by the names of Hulun (girl) and Buir (boy) protected the prairie from a demon, however in doing so, they transformed into the two lakes - Hulun and Buir - that can be seen today. Besides the fascinating legend behind this tourist attraction, the Hulunbuir Grassland is one of the three popular grasslands in the world. It’s positioned at an elevation of between 650 and 700 metres, and offers an unhindered and sweeping view of the lush, emerald green prairie. With over 120 kinds of plants thriving in this area, including the stipa, alfalfa and wheatgrass, it’s no wonder that this place is known as “The Grass Kingdom”.

BALI: THE PATHS LESS TRAVELLED
Almost everyone you know has been to Bali by now, and can describe with alacrity the spacious villas, sundrenched beaches and myriad of indulgences that are readily available. The trip I went on recently, altered my perceptions and widened my view about the unique travel opportunities available in this gorgeous little island. BY SANTHI SATHYAMOORTHI
A
short 2-hour flight away lies Surabaya. Most people sojourn to Surabaya either for business or Bromo. My purpose was simply to take a connecting flight to nearby Banyuwangi, where the fiery, sulphur engulfed Mount Ijen lay in wait. The connecting flight to Banyuwangi via Garuda Airlines is a mere hour, and if you take an early morning flight you arrive just as the sun rises over gorgeous green-topped teletubby-like mountains. Lush rice fields furnish the landscape. This picturesque sight from your plane window will already take your breath away, whilst the very quaint but well maintained little airport you land at will cause you to stop and Instagram everything in sight. Stay at the fabulous Hotel Santika Banyuwangi. Centrally located with wonderfully clean, spacious rooms, the view of the distant, rumbling volcanoes from the hotel windows is a treat. Banyuwangi is just west of Bali, and with its population of over a million Javanese, it’s a place rich with culture and home to a great variety of fascinating festivals. An annual international surfing festival draws surf aficionados, while a festival titled “Thousands of Gandrung” pays homage to the traditional and very beautiful dance from the region, the Gandrung. Gandrung is an elaborate and ancient dance, with dancers wearing ornate headpieces and colourful costumes, dancing to the tunes of gamelans, violins, gongs and gamelan xylophones. Over the years, it has become a popular tourist attraction but definitely has not yet gotten old. It’s clear that the dancers take great pride in learning their traditional dance and performing it to perfection. Museums in Banyuwangi contain mannequins with ancient and still elaborate costumes, perfectly preserved for posterity. Nobody will be able to resist the incredibly spicy and unique Javanese cuisine. Besides the semur daging (traditional beef stew), fried tempeh and five spiced fried chicken, I also discovered beverages local to the area and little known beyond it. Temulawak is a Javanese ginger juice drink, and besides being refreshingly delicious, it is also incredibly digestion friendly! As a guest of the Indonesian Tourism Board, I had the privilege of meeting with the Director of Tourism in Banyuwangi, and hearing first-hand about the efforts and the
initiatives the team had taken to promote and propel tourism to Banyuwangi. We got the lowdown on all the festivals planned for 2017, from the acclaimed national “Indonesia Fashion Week” to the “Drinking of Ten Thousand Coffee Festival” to be held in October. Literature, Short Film and even a Fireworks Festival ensure that Banyuwangi will have something for visitors at all times of the year. Ensure that you have some sleep and a decent amount of rest before bundling up in a few layers, gloves and a scarf or two to
trundle up via mini-van to the foot of Mount Ijen in the dead of night. It is recommended to start the hike up at around 1:30am, giving novices plenty of time to get past the steep bits, whereas if you are fit and no stranger to climbing, 45 minutes to get to the top will suffice. Why climb a steep volcano to inhale sulphuric gas and view an acidic lake? Two visually spectacular reasons keep visitors coming! Spectacular Reason #1: Ignited sulphuric gas cause fabulously fiery blue flames to fire up on the lake, rendering it quite the sight to behold! Mount Ijen contains the largest blue flame area in the world, and it’s worth every drop of
9 | Travel Journal | Issue 19 | May 2017 sweat to view this blue wonder streaking across the lake. The flames can go up to 5 metres high, and can only be viewed properly in the pitch black of night. You will need a gas mask to protect yourself from the sulphur fumes, and weather permitting, can even clamber down to stand right next to the lake. These sparkly blue flames will remain amongst some of your most unforgettable travel memories. Spectacular Reason #2: Witness the most dramatic sunrise you’ll ever see. The harsh, fiery blues on the lake will give way to a teal liquid brilliance, amidst creamy white smoke and turmeric coloured blocks of sulphur. The colours alone are a feast for the eyes and the dangerously acidic lake will look placidly inviting in the beautiful calm of the sunrise. The chill of the night would have worn off through the climb, but as the sun rises there will be no more need to wear additional layers of clothing. A sunlit but somewhat steep descent will bring you safely and triumphantly back to the bottom, with a story to tell and photos to cherish! A hearty meal and maybe a short nap later, it was time for our 8-hour journey to Bali! Travellers in a hurry can take a plane from Banyuwangi to Bali instead. Checking in to Rimba Jimbaran Hotel, I found myself in a large, spacious room with a huge bed, comfortable sofa and an array of pampering facilities for a tired volcano trekker. As always, I enjoyed the bath the most, since it came equipped with a massive circular bathtub as well as a rain shower. Nothing like a long hot soak in a bathtub to relax tired muscles and recover from a long land journey! The rest of the hotel consisted of comfort, luxury and service so attentive that I was telling myself every other minute to only stay in this particular hotel every time I visit Bali. Rimba Jimbaran Hotel is situated in South Kuta, and nestled on an elevation amongst luscious rainforests. The hotel consists of no less than twelve - yes, twelve! - swimming pools, a golf course and an award-winning spa. The Rimba Jimbaran Bali Hotel is owned by the Ayana group, and a short and complimentary buggy ride will take you to the Ayana resorts, a sprawling estate littered with
private villas and splendid cliff views. This resort is home of course, to the very famous rock bar, a bar carved out of an actual massive rock. Lauded for both architecture and its sunset views, the bar sees long queues almost every night, so much so that priority queues have to be allotted to hotel guests. I had the privilege of getting to check it out in the daytime before other guests arrived. The Rock Bar is truly a unique, one of a kind bar to go to no matter who you’re with. Larger seating areas are available for a raucous night with friends, while sea facing private nooks abound as well for that special date night. The sea breeze is fantastic, and having a few drinks here should definitely go on your to do list when you visit Bali. Take time to visit the very pretty Pura Bratan, a temple built on a lake in Bali and still very much utilized for festivals and worship. I felt as if I had stepped onto the set of a movie, with the temple set out on the water, giving it the effect of floating. Flowers abounded along the shores of the lake, rendering every photograph from any angle instantly instaworthy. On the final day, treat yourself at a spa! We were transported to the beautiful and award-winning aroma spa in Sanur, situated on a beach. I opted for a head to toe traditional Balinese massage. What a relaxing way to end the trip! One last Indonesian experience awaited us - none other than food, glorious food! We were taken to a very famous and crowded restaurant on the street, called Ayam Betutu. This dish is basically steamed or roasted chicken rice, with the Indonesian touch of spices and chilli. If you dare, you can go all the way and ask for the highest level of spice! Every dish here tasted absolutely delectable. And so ended an incredible journey through Bali, leaving me with vibrant images of blue fires, spiced foods, aweinspiring temples and superb sunsets. www.indonesia.travel/en

f you’re thinking of travelling to Japan, it is almost impossible to leave Tokyo out of your plans. The capital of Japan is a brilliant and bustling mess of sights and sounds. Home to approximately 13 million people, the crowded streets and sleek skyscrapers are a familiar sight even to those who have yet to set foot onto Japanese soil (thanks to the numerous directors who have used cosmopolitan Tokyo’s backdrop in various blockbuster movies). Be it for business or pleasure, Tokyo is renowned for a myriad of novel experiences. If you’re willing to splurge, dine at some of the finest restaurants in the world; Tokyo is home to more than 225 restaurants with at least one Michelin star, beating cities such as France and New York City. Another thing you should do in the city is to get yourself tickets to a sumo wrestling match at Ryōgoku Kokugikan, an indoor sumo stadium. Soak up the atmosphere at one of the weekend matches, where the crowd gets a little rowdy by pelleting cushions after a good match – it is truly an experience like none other! Paying a visit to Tsukiji Market is rated one of the top things to do in Tokyo. It claims to be the largest fish market in the world, and there is a viewing area in the wee hours of the morning for eager tourists to witness a part of the process that feeds a significant population of Tokyo!

Rabbit Island
Spend a week with H.I.S. Travel in Tokyo and on Rabbit Island! Hop on a ferry to Rabbit Island in Okunoshima for a furry good time. Whilst it is already a popular destination amongst tourists from other parts of the globe, H.I.S. Travel is a pioneer in bringing this itinerary to Singaporeans. Get ready to clutch your heart and swallow a squeal from the amount of cute (or should I say, kawaii) you will be going to experience. Your travels to and from Rabbit Island is peppered with many noteworthy attractions. On your ferry back to Hiroshima, be sure to visit the Itsukushima Shrine – renowned for its iconic ‘floating’ torii gate, which was built 200 meters offshore, and known for being the boundary between the spiritual and physical world.
Fox Village
Here’s another unexpected experience you can pair with your visit to Tokyo – a Fox Village! You read that right. Spend some time with some friendly, tame foxes in a large forest area with a small fox enclosure. If you visit in the winter, get ready for some incredible pictures – it will seem as though you just stepped into a Disney fairytale. These little bundles of joy are friendly, perhaps a little naughty, but are perfectly safe to be around. You will be staying at Shiroishi Onsen Yakushinoyu - a ryokan, which is a traditional type of Japanese inn - that is located close to the Fox Village. Booking a ‘Fox Village &
Tokyo’ package with H.I.S. Travel comes with a Flexi 5-Day Japan Railway (JR) East Pass (Tohoku Area) - a special discounted pass which allows unlimited rides on all JR East train lines.
Osaka
Spend a couple of days in the beautiful city of Osaka. Visit the Osaka Castle, an impressive five-layer structure on a lawn park that stretches over 60,000 square meters! Head up to the observatory on the 8th floor of the castle, which offers impeccable, unobstructed views of the city of Osaka. With your Japan Rail pass, you can explore key attractions that are close to Osaka! Take a day trip to Kyoto to visit the famous orange passageway of the Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine. Known to be the headquarters of all the Inari shrines nationwide (there is said to be at least 40,000 of such shrines!), it is dedicated to a god who takes care of foods and agriculture, and prosperity in general. he small island of Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China, is easy to fall in love with. With a population of over 23.3 million people, you can expect to find breathtaking natural beauty, ornate temples, sumptuous food and novel festivals that you will not be able to find in any other part of the world. Noted for its scenery and its tranquil atmosphere, the Yilan County is situated in the central part of the Lanyang Plain in the northeastern part of Taiwan. The destination offers visitors sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, and the panoramic sky. The scenic location is also home to the Hsuehshan Tunnel, Asia’s second longest highway tunnel, which significantly cut down the travelling time between Yilan and Taipei. Apart from its efficient infrastructure, the county features waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and lush forests. One notable mention is the Qilan Sacred Trees Garden, which is home to a hundred indigenous ancient trees. Besides its picturesque sights, there are a number of things to see and do here.
Spring Onion Farm
As one of Taiwan’s common street food, spring onion pancakes are popular breakfast items amongst the locals. The simple yet savoury item is cooked with only four ingredients - flour, spring onions, oil, and salt. Usually the dough is rolled before being flattened and fried. In Yilan, visitors will have a chance to make spring onion pancakes from scratch. From picking, and preparing the spring onions to rolling the dough, flattening and finally frying it, the entire experience is fun, interactive, and engaging for the whole family. Of course the most satisfying part is sinking your teeth into the crispy and delicious pancakes.
Luodong Forestry Culture Garden
Contrary to its name, the Luodong Forestry Culture Garden might not sound like it offers much for the average traveller, however don’t write this place off yet. The location is an

intriguing tourist destination that encapsulates the history and culture of the area. The place was once one of the three major timber industrial sites in Taiwan. Today it features a number of Japanese architectural attractions, including traditional trains, and buildings built during the Japanese colonial period. Travellers can learn about the logging industry in the past, and visit the Luodong Railway Station, where you can see the trains going by in close proximity.
Shifen Old Street
Travel back in time when you take a stroll down the quaint and charming Shifen Old Street. Situated in the Pingxi area, the popular destination draws both locals and visitors with local delicacies, souvenir shops, and puffing trains. Comprised of a collection of lanes and alleys, the Shifen Old
Street was originally intended to transport coal during the Japanese era.
Shifen Waterfall
Apart from the historical Shifen Old Street, the region is also renowned for the 20-meter tall Shifen Waterfall. The stunning sight is located northeast from the train platform, and is notable for the rainbow that’s seen when the water splashes into the lake below. An additional highlight that one can partake in is the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, which takes place in February. During this period, festival-goers are invited to write their New Year’s wish on the outside of the lantern before releasing it into the sky. www.namho.com.sg/

DON’T LIVE A LITTLE. LIVE A DREAM Wake up to views of the ocean, dine alfresco under the stars, and be the first to party in Zouk at sea!
WORDS BY: SARAH SATHYAMOORTHI
M
y maiden cruise voyage was with none other than Genting Dream – the first ship of the Dream ¬Cruises fleet which made its debut on the high seas in November 2016. After my weekend escapade on board the brand-new liner, I think it is safe to say that Genting Dream has set some incredibly high standards and expectations for any future cruise-related adventures. Genting Dream has entered the market, armed with knowledge that cruising isn’t as hot as it used to be. So instead of simply introducing yet another ship, Dream Cruises promises paradise, luxury, and revelry at sea – and boy, does it deliver. The Genting Dream is an impressive ship from the get-go. Its hull is a canvas for a seemingly enigmatic piece of art featuring brilliant splashes of dark pink and hues of orange, entitled ‘Voyage of a Lover’s Dream’, which is also the title of Genting Dream’s signature theatre production show which you can catch at the grand Zodiac Theatre. The ship’s hardware bears all the right marks of a quality liner - it has 18 decks and measures over 335m in length. 70% of the ship’s spacious staterooms comes with a private balcony and the Dream Palace (a truly fitting title for such unprecedented levels of decadence) is an additional incorporation for anyone willing to splurge on personalised butler service and exclusive dining options. The ship also boasts of a couple of notable “first-at-sea” experiences such as a Johnnie Walker House™ and the
Balcony Stateroom
world-class Zouk™ night club. If you’re already impressed, then great, but we have barely scratched the surface of why Genting Dream is such a gamechanger in the cruise industry. Boarding the ship at Hong Kong, I was ushered in by many helpful crew members (the crew-to-guest ratio is 1:1.7!) to my incredibly spacious balcony stateroom. The first order on board was dinner at the acclaimed Bistro by Mark Best – a restaurant by the internationallyacclaimed Australian chef. Guests on board will have to bear the additional charges for dining here, but there will not be any room for regret once your knife seamlessly cuts through Mark Best’s medium-rare steak. Best is an advocate of the highest quality Australia produce and this is evident in each dish served at the Bistro. You also have the option of enjoying your dinner alfresco. Mid-way through dinner, there was a sudden flurry of guests heading out of the restaurant to the side of the ship, to witness the ship whisking us through the waters (and take pictures against the city skyline). Incredulous and awe-struck all at the same time, I stepped out into the cool night and watched as the silhouette of Hong Kong’s glistening skyline began to fade into nothing more than a distant light as the ship impelled further out to sea. Whilst walking through Deck 8 (which is where a third of the ship’s 35 restaurants and bars are at, so you’ll be spending a fair amount of time strolling back and forth
Bistro by Mark Best
the length of this floor), you will walk past an ‘Art Gallery’ – paintings and art on either side of you, serving not just as tasteful décor to the ship, but adding a level of charm to the interiors. Perhaps it also exists to lend guests that waltz through the carpeted floors a heightened sense of sophistication. Before retiring for the night, I paid Mixt a visit. Mixt is a cocktail lounge where expert mixologists measure, shake, and pour out colourful concoctions using state-of-the-art equipment. ‘Tis indeed one of the finer things in life – to sit idly on the side deck of a ship at night with a glass of fantastic wine (yes, I foolishly settled for a glass of white at a lounge filled with mixologist experts).
Turn Dreams into Reality
On the second day of my weekend adventure, I managed to try out some of the activities on board the ship. Genting Dream has a challenging Rock Climbing Wall, Mini-Golf for the whole family, Sportsplex (basketball, volleyball, and football) arena and neon Glow Bowl alley. I’d been hearing a lot about the thrill of the zip line – just imagining zipping 35meters across the ship, and 18 decks above the waters got me dizzy with excitement. Little did I know that in order to get to the zip line, I had to complete a Ropes Course – a mess of obstacles geared to test co-ordination and balance – and horizontally rock climb my way to the edge of the waters, before I could take that great leap. After what felt like forever (when in actuality was probably less than 10 minutes),

I found myself standing on a small platform, attached to the edge of the ship. The view from the top was nothing short of stunning. I felt incredibly small looking out into the vastness of the great blue ocean, with nothing but waves for miles. Entrusting my life to the metal hook attached to me, with a shriek, I felt my feet leave the safety of the ledge and successfully zip-lined over the ocean! The ship also offers activities such as Ballroom Dancing, and within half an hour – after many steps in the wrong direction and helpful tips - I managed to master a few of the basic steps of this elegant dance. Taught by professionals, ballroom dancing is one of the three dance genres available on board (Bachata and Hip-Hop classes are the other two crash courses) that you can try your hand (or feet, in this instance) at if you have ever felt too intimidated to take on a full-on dance course back home. A ship’s Main Pool Deck and Waterslide Park are without a doubt what I had always imagined to be one of the highlights of a cruise. They are perfect for all ages because no matter how old you get, diving down a couple of stories into water on the high seas induces quite a rush. Genting Dream has a grand total of six different waterslides, with each of the bright tubed curvatures built to plunge you into the pool at different
Pool Deck at Night
speeds. Great for thrill-seekers and the cautious! The sun was going down at this point – so the soft peach hues reached out to the beau blue skies, and the fairy lights reaching from one end of the pool deck to the other gave the evening a touch of whimsy. With the accompaniment of tunes from an international pop playlist, I relaxed into one of the four hot tubs. Needless to say, it was an absolutely divine sensory experience. After experiencing a multitude of activities on board, one has the option to pamper themselves silly at the sleek Crystal Life Asian Spa - the largest Asian reflexology spa at sea – which includes traditional Chinese spa treatments, a plunge pool, steam & sauna, and foot spa treatments. Crystal Life Spa is its equivalent, offering private rooms for Western spa and massage treatments.
Gala Nights on Themed Cruises
From time to time, Genting Dream will organise themed cruises. In March, the cruise line organised a ‘Ladies’ Month’ to embrace women’s beauty, fashion and passions, inspired by the Golden Shanghai era of the 1920s. On this particular two-night cruise, the theme was a ‘Voyage of A Golden Era’, which culminated in a gala night dinner at the
Dream Dining Room. Ladies were encouraged to dress up in cheongsams whilst the men were in suits - and we were treated to some of the best entertainment and dining available at sea. Keep your eyes peeled for such special themed cruises, because Dream Cruises pull out all the stops for its guests, which lead to a truly immersive and unforgettable holiday experience. With the night still young, what else could you do to make the most out of the final few hours you have on board the ship? Head to Zouk, of course. In the day, the space is a sports bar with bowling lanes and pool tables. Come night, you get the DJ mixing the best hits, bartenders behind a well-stocked bar, and strobe lights to really get you into the party-all-night-at-sea mood; there is nothing quite like it. So, the next time someone thinks they’ve got cruise holidays all figured out – point them to Dream Cruises. Genting Dream will be calling Singapore its home in December 2017, sailing to Southeast Asian destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Phuket, and Bali. Don’t just dream about a luxurious cruise holiday. Live it on Genting Dream! http://www.dreamcruiseline.com/en/

Ms. Han Yeo Ok of Korea Tourism Organisation
Korea
Korea was voted best for Atmosphere, and it is not difficult to understand why. Part of Korea’s charm and whimsy can be attributed to the four different seasons which the country enjoys and each climate brings with it a fresh experience. Spring falls between March and May, and brings with it the numerous cherry blossoms and various bright flowers, transforming Korea’s landscape into a muted pink paradise. Summer starts in June all the way till August and is the best time to enjoy tropical activities, Korea’s beaches and summer music festivals. Summer is also the best time to visit Korea’s scenic valleys. Autumn paints Korea in hues of crimson red and bright orange – the skies are clear and the summer sizzle makes way for gentle breezes. Hiking (or a simple stroll) through the different parks will allow you to take in the fall foliage in all its glory; and the magical season of Winter turns Korea into a wonderland from the months of December through early March.

Malaysia (Sarawak)
Borneo spans just over 1% of the planet’s surface, yet it is home to approximately 6% of the earth’s prime rainforests. Much of that rainforest is in the land of Sarawak, Malaysia. From the North to the South, there are thousands upon thousands of hectares of prime rainforests, all preserved in the protected areas of the state’s National Parks. It is no wonder then, that this Malaysian state has been voted as the best destination to head to if you love nature! One of its more popular sites to visit is Gunung Mulu National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the Northern region of Sarawak.

Mr. Katsuya Tamaki of Okinawa Tourism
Japan (Okinawa)
The prefecture of Okinawa, Japan, was voted best for ‘Family Holidays’. Both the young and the old will enjoy the Okinawan art of Bingata (or coral dye painting). Get in touch with nature at the northern tip of Yanbaru, Okinawa. The surrounding mountains and lush forestry in this area is welcome change from the shiny skyscrapers in Singapore. Here, you can enjoy learning about the many different types of flora and fauna while on a jungle trek or simply experience the serenity of the Yanbaru river when you canoe through it to reach some waterfalls. The many family friendly resorts in Okinawa also come packed with a tonne of activities to keep everyone entertained, which makes for a great, fuss-free holiday; exactly what every parent needs when dealing with children whilst on holiday.
