The annual Sendai Tanabata Matsuri (Sendai Tanabata Festival) is a widely celebrated event in Japan. Also known as the Star Festival, this yearly happening is said to have originated from the legend of the two star-crossed lovers - Cowherd Star (Altair) and Weaver Star (Vega) - who only cross paths once a year. Although the festival takes place throughout Downtown Sendai, the highlight of this event are the thousands of colourful streamers that adorn the city’s shopping arcades. The three to five meter long streamers, handcrafted by local shops, schools, and community groups, are made out of washi paper and bamboo are hung on 10-meter long bamboo poles along the arcades.
Rock out to the eargasmic music of Bastille, Charli XCX, 5 Seconds of Summer, Guckkasten and many more famous artists. Spanning over three days, the rock festival is one of the biggest and most celebrated in the country. The annual music showcase brings crowd favourites to South Korea’s third largest city and recognises artists from all over the world, including its very own homegrown talent. Although most are veterans in the industry don’t need an introduction, the event also acts as a platform for up and coming musicians who rightly deserve the stage as much as their established counterparts.

Krishna Janmashtami INDIA Krishna Janmashtami, also known as Govinda, is an annual festival that commemorates the birth of the Hindu god, Lord Krishna, the god of love and compassion. Songs of devotion and praise are often offered up at the time of his birth, at midnight. The highlight of this two-day festival often involves teams of men forming a tall human pyramid to try to reach and break open clay pots - that are strung up high from buildings - filled with curd, butter and honey. Whilst it is celebrated throughout the country, a great place to experience the festivities is in the state of Mumbai. Celebrations take place at hundreds of locations across the city and Maharashtra Tourism Board will run special buses for foreign tourists who wish to witness the celebrations. http://incredibleindia.org/

Gramophone Music Festival 2017: Divas of Old Shanghai Concerts The Gramophone Music Festival is a week-long concert series happening from the 18th till the 23rd of September 2017. Organised by ETC Music & Entertainment, the concert festival will feature popular pop songs that evoke nostalgia, originating from Shanghai in the glorious 1930s through the 1960s. The unique show format combines a musical concert with ballroom dancing for VIP ticket holders. Audience members are expected to be comprised of Singapore’s high society ballroom dance aficionados as well as fans of the music of this bygone era. A decade ago, the organiser staged an Old Shanghaithemed concert at the Esplanade Concert Hall in memory of the 50th anniversary of Ms Zhou Xuan – one of the most prolific divas in Shanghai in the 1930s. The enthusiasm from the crowd and unexpectedly great reception led the organiser to recognise that there is a significant number of people in Singapore who appreciate and enjoy such music. Using professional vocalists and an orchestral band made up for Singapore’s top musicians has enabled the festival organiser to replicate sounds and tones that resemble the playback of an original 78rpm vinyl record played on a gramophone. A WEEK OF WHIMSY IN KOREA
Step into a Korean wonderland this winter.
E
xchange the sticky humidity for the winter chill in Korea. Winter in Korea lasts from December to early March and temperatures can drop to as low as -10ºC, which makes it the ideal place for various winter activities. Walk through quaint streets enveloped in snow or cosy up near the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate after a thrilling morning of skiing through some magnificent gentle slopes. We’ve picked a few highlights of the seven day itinerary put together by CS Travel.
Gangwon-Do The province of Gangwon-Do is the place to be during winter as the state receives an abundance of snowfall during the season. The ample snowfall and fantastic topography are also reasons as to why Gangwon-Do will be one of the host cities of the 2018 Winter Olympics! Included in your package will be ski equipments you can use on your skiing adventure. It doesn’t matter if you are a novice or expert; most ski resorts, such as YongPyong Resort has various types of slopes to accommodate the beginners, advanced, as well as the thrill-seekers. YongPyong is one of Korea’s best, with 28 slopes and 14 cable lifts, covering an expansive area of 3,436,877 m2. In the winter, the YongPyong Resort turns into a magical holiday spot, and will leave you wishing you could spend more time skiing down the mountains and waking up to snow-covered plains.
Gyeongbok Palace
Gyeonggi-Do The province of Gyeonggi-Do is the next stop of your Korean adventure after Gangwon-Do. This charming state is quite the tourist hub, with experiences as dichotomous as theme parks and Demilitarised Zones. One must-visit attraction is the Everland Theme Park in Gyeonggi-Do. Located in the city of Yongin, it is South Korea’s largest theme park with more than just thrilling roller coasters. On top of the various Bibimbap

Without a doubt, this theme park has something to offer everyone, regardless of age. If you’re on your trip with a significant other, then a visit to the top of the very romantic N Seoul Tower to immortalise your love with a ‘love lock’ is a novel and Love Locks at N Seoul Tower meaningful touristy activity to look forward to - no matter how cheesy you may think it is! No trip to Seoul is truly complete without a full blown shopping spree. Take the time out to fully immerse yourself at the bustling Myeongdong, a renowned shopaholic’s paradise in Seoul. Here, you will find main streets and alleyways of shops carrying popular and local brand names, departmental stores such as the ever-popular Lotte Department Store, restaurants, fast-food joints as well as salons and theaters! DISCOVER NATURE’S SPELLBINDING WONDER
Join the chase and capture sights of the elusive, yet stunning Northern Lights with LGE Travel - Let’s Go Europe.
A
s a renowned phenomenon that’s on every avid traveller’s bucket list, the Aurora Borealis or more commonly known as the Northern Lights, is a natural wonder that has captivated millions around the world. There are several times in a year that are best for viewing the Northern Lights, this include the months November to March. These months are relatively more popular compared to any other months in the year to see the lights. The long winter nights offer a higher chance to witness the unforgettable sights of nature’s greatest wonder. The various hues of colours dancing across the sky, beneath the snow-clad land is stunningly scenic. Besides shorter days, these nights are also accompanied by frigid temperatures. However, if you are unable to withstand the chilly weather, you may opt to visit the Arctic region between September and October. The pristine lakes, which remain ice-free for most of this period, are known to reflect the brilliant colours of the Northern Lights. An interesting fact about the Aurora Borealis is that the naked eye is unable to detect the full spectrum of colours displayed across the sky. It’s the main reason why most only see green hues. However, photographic images are known to capture the broad range of colours filling the Arctic sky, but like most natural phenomenon, the spectrum of colours visible are highly dependent on weather conditions. Because of external factors, catching sight of the elusive Northern Lights can sometimes be next to impossible during a trip to the Arctic. However, if you would like the odds in your favour, booking your trip with LGE Travel - Let’s Go Europe is your best bet. The travel company has achieved a success rate of 95.1 percent between November 2016 and December 2016. They provide the highest chance of catching the Northern Lights among all other itineraries in

DESARU DREAMS AT SAND & SANDALS
Laze on a hammock on the golden stretches of a privtae beach, sip on a cocktail or two and traverse the muddy grounds on an All-Terrain Vehicle at Sand & Sandals Desaru Resort and Spa.
Couple Deluxe
T
Balcony with Bathtub
he last time I was at Desaru, I was barely five years old, and was staying at a resort called Pulai Desaru Beach. 20 years later, I find myself standing at the exact same spot - at the mouth of the resort’s swimming pool, looking at the familiar blue slide on a rock structure (probably one of the few fixtures of the resort that did not get revamped during the renovation works). Today, it goes by the name of Sand & Sandals Desaru Resort and Spa, a spanking new upscale resort located on the coast of the South China Sea. After a 45-minute drive from Tuas Checkpoint, I reach Sand & Sandals. The façade of the resort is rather unimpressive and renovation works are still underway along the driveway. With higher hopes for the rooms and facilities, the deluxe room I stepped into made up for the lobby’s lack of pizzazz. The 55 m2 room was beautifully furnished with a magnificent four-poster king sized bed, sleek wooden furnishings, a stone-coloured bathtub in the private balcony, washbasins and amenities on marble countertops (in a separate section from the walk-in rain shower - which is big enough for two and a toilet area). I also got a look at the other types of rooms available, and each of them were just as chic and modern. For a more luxurious option, couples could pick the very exclusive couple deluxe room that comes with a private pool and provides
privileged access to the Club Lounge. The Club Lounge is a premier dining area reserved for guests staying at selected rooms. Families with young children will be delighted to find that Sand & Sandal’s family suites are duplex properties tastefully decorated to suit both adults and children. The resort offers at least six different dining options so that your taste buds don’t get bored if you’re going to be staying at Sand & Sandals for more than two nights. I had lunch at Snuk Thai Street BBQ, one of the restaurants under the resort, located just a minute’s walk from the main building. Serving up delicious Thai food cooked by Thai chefs, one dish that stood out to me was the coconut-flavoured tom yum broth – a different take on the usually spicy, soupy dish. I also tucked into some deep fried seabass doused in sweet chilli. For breakfast, the main dining area was at The Cove – a large dining hall with a buffet-style breakfast spread and live cooking stations. The Nasi Lemak I had for breakfast did not disappoint. The first order of the day was hitting the seas. With my life jacket strapped on, I set off into the vastness of the ocean on board a jet ski after a very simple lesson by the instructor. The resort also offers a bunch of other exciting land and sea activities (at affordable rates!) such as canoeing, viper rides, paintball and ATV rides! I also learnt that in due time to come, there will be a large water-slide park within the vicinity of the

resort – perfect for hours of splashing fun. If heart-thumping rides isn’t for you, book an excursion with the resort. They offer trips to experience some magical fireflies in the dark, help you book tours to a fruit farm tour or even an afternoon of gold at the luxurious Els Club. End your day at the Sunken Bar, a lounge by the poolside with a whirlpool (and swim-up bar) to enjoy a refreshing cocktail by the beach whilst watching the sunset. The icing on the cake for me was visiting the in-house spa facility. I rarely enjoy massages, but I almost dozed off into slumber when Mira - my masseuse for the hour - worked on my muscles during the hour-long Balinese Spa treatment. Perfect for families, couples, or even a little getaway with friends, Sand & Sandal’s is an unexpectedly delightful and luxurious getaway from the bustle of Singapore. I absolutely can’t wait to return! www.sandandsandals.com/

EXPLORING YILAN COUNTY WITH NAM HO TRAVEL Be swept away by the charming sights of this northeastern gem.
T
he small island of Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China, is easy to fall in love with. With a population of over 23.3 million people, you can expect to find breathtaking natural beauty, ornate temples, sumptuous food and novel festivals that you will not be able to find in any other part of the world. Noted for its scenery and its tranquil atmosphere, the Yilan County is situated in the central part of the Lanyang Plain in the northeastern part of Taiwan. The destination offers visitors sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, and the panoramic sky. The scenic location is also home to the Hsuehshan Tunnel, Asia’s second longest highway tunnel, which significantly cut down the travelling time between Yilan and Taipei. Apart from its efficient infrastructure, the county features waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and lush forests. One notable mention is the Qilan Sacred Trees Garden, which is home to a hundred indigenous ancient trees. Besides its picturesque sights, there are a number of things to see and do here.
Spring Onion Farm
As one of Taiwan’s common street food, spring onion pancakes are popular breakfast items amongst the locals. The simple yet savoury item is cooked with only four ingredients - flour, spring onions, oil, and salt. Usually the dough is rolled before being flattened and fried. In Yilan, visitors will have a chance to make spring onion pancakes from scratch. From picking, and preparing the spring onions to rolling the dough, flattening and finally frying it, the entire experience is fun, interactive, and engaging for the whole family. Of course the most satisfying part is sinking your teeth into the crispy and delicious pancakes.
Luodong Forestry Culture Garden
Contrary to its name, the Luodong Forestry Culture Garden might not sound like it offers much for the average traveller, however don’t write this place off yet. The location is an intriguing tourist destination that encapsulates the history and culture of the area. The place was once one of the three major timber industrial sites in Taiwan. Today it features a number of Japanese architectural attractions, including traditional trains, and buildings built during the Japanese colonial period. Travellers can learn about the logging industry in the past, and visit the Luodong Railway Station, where you can see the trains going by in close proximity.

Travel back in time when you take a stroll down the quaint and charming Shifen Old Street. Situated in the Pingxi area, the popular destination draws both locals and visitors with local delicacies, souvenir shops, and puffing trains. Comprised of a collection of lanes and alleys, the Shifen Old Street was originally intended to transport coal during the Japanese era.
Shifen Waterfall
Apart from the historical Shifen Old Street, the region is also renowned for the 20-meter tall Shifen Waterfall. The stunning sight is located northeast from the train platform, and is notable for the rainbow that’s seen when the water splashes into the lake below. An additional highlight that one can partake in is the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, which takes place in February. During this period, festival-goers are invited to write their New Year’s wish on the outside of the lantern before releasing it into the sky.

UNRAVEL THE WONDERS OF EUROPE Traverse across Europe and discover the diverse offerings encompassing the continent.
Trevi Fountain, Rome
W
ith a whole continent named after a figure in Greek mythology, Europe has stood as a prime example of man’s greatest potential and achievements. The continent is also renowned for its vital contributions to art, cuisine, and architecture, which have influenced both the civilizations of old and the new. Its turbulent past fills the pages of most history textbooks today, but more importantly, the rise and fall of empires has played a crucial role in shaping not only the future of Europe, but that of the world’s as well. Besides playing a significant role in world history, the natural and manmade wonders of modern Europe has inspired millions around the globe to seek out and form their own perceptions of this great continent.
Italy, Rome
Famed for its Mediterranean coastline and its turquoise waters, Italy is a country renowned for its food and Renaissance masterpieces. It’s capital, Rome, is famous for being the home to the Vatican - the seat of the Roman
Scala dei Giganti in the Doge’s Palace
Catholic Church and the Pope. Despite being one of the world’s smallest state, the Vatican City remains as one of the most visited sites in the world. The city-state even has its own railway station, flag, and anthem. If that’s not impressive, it also has its own post office (and stamps). So the next time you visit the Vatican, be sure to send someone back home a postcard. The Vatican is also known for the distinguished St. Peter’s Basilica -one of the largest churches in the world. It boasts intricate works of art and an opulent interior behind its grandiose facade. When in Rome...visit the Colosseum. Commissioned around 70 A.D., the site once hosted sporting events, celebrations, wild animal fights, and more famously, gladiatorial combats. Seating up to 80,000 people, it’s the largest of its kind ever built. Although the massive stone amphitheater has fallen into disarray and left to the elements, it still remains as a popular destination to this day. While here, consider making a quick stop at the Trevi Fountain. As the largest Baroque fountain in the city, it is also the most photogenic in the world. Dating back to ancient Roman times, the fountain was built at the end point of the
aqueduct, at the junction of three roads. The fountain’s name is derived from these three roads or streets - tre vie or Three Street Fountain.
Italy, Venice
Long and exquisite gondolas float leisurely along the myriad of canals that snake through the timeless city of Venice. Instead of cars or roads, narrow canals act as connecting pathways and small boats/water buses are utilised as a means of transport. Opulently fashioned buildings and historic monuments seem to rise from the depths of Venice, charming travellers from all over with its unique layout. Also known as Piazza San Marco, the St. Mark’s Square is noted for housing most of Venice’s rich history and architectural wonders. Since most of the city’s sights are concentrated here, it has become a major tourist attraction. Established in the ninth century, it is the largest square in the city and hence is known as a piazza - while the other city squares in Venice are referred to as “campi”. Besides being home to popular attractions such as the St. Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace, and many others. Piazza San Marco is also a place where the most important government buildings and other facilities play a crucial role in the city’s activities are situated. Doge’s Palace represents Gothic architecture at its finest, while serving as a distinguished landmark in Venice. Steeped in history, the Doge’s Palace has served many purposes in the past, from being the seat of the Venetian government to being the residence of the Doge (chief magistrate of Venice or Genoa). Today, it is a museum and exhibits paintings that were exclusively created to embellish the Doge’s Palace. The main entrance of the palace, the Porta della Carta, links the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica. Filled with intricate ornamental carvings, the figures above the entrance- Doge Francesco Foscari kneeling before the Lion of St. Mark symbolises the power of the state. Another notable feature of the Doge’s Palace is the Scala dei Giganti - Staircase of the Giants - which leads up to the State Apartments on the upper floor - it is flanked on either sides by two large statues of Mars and Neptune.
Switzerland, Lucerne
St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City, Rome

The Lion Monument is one of the most popular attractions in Lucerne. It was erected in the 1880s to honour the valour of mercenary soldiers from Central Switzerland. The monument - of a giant dying lion - commemorates Swiss soldiers who sacrificed their lives while serving the French king Louis XVI during the French Revolution. A Latin inscription is also carved into the sandstone wall, like an incantation, it reads: HELVETIORUM FIDEI AC VIRTUTI, which means “To the loyalty and bravery of the Swiss”. Records of the dead, such as their names and death toll, can be found on the memorial. The Old Chapel Bridge plays a crucial role in the city of Lucerne. Connecting the Old Town and a New Town, this structure has been serving its purpose since 1332 - although it was rebuilt after being damaged by a fire. Unlike other bridges, the Old Chapel Bridge exhibits old paintings under its roofs. Interestingly enough, a few burnt panels are still displayed to serve as a reminder of the tragic fire that took place in 1993. During the carnival season, the original pictures will be replaced with the modern ones to reflect the carnival atmosphere.

that stands imposingly to commemorate the soldiers and generals who lost their lives fighting for France during the Napoleonic Wars. The Louvre Museum is an ideal place for any art enthusiast to satisfy their thirst for masterpieces and impressive art collections. The historic monument is a central landmark of the city, and attracts art enthusiasts from all over the world. As the world’s largest museum, the art gallery holds Egyptian antiquities, notable paintings, Renaissance and Medieval artwork; and a collection of ancient sculptures ranging from the Medieval and Romanesque era. Visitors flock to the museum every day to look at the Louvre’s most famous work, Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”. The museum was originally built as a fortress in 1190, but was reconstructed in the 16th century to serve as a royal palace. Visitors can also see the Louvre pyramid when they take the main entrance to the Louvre Museum. The glass pyramid structure was installed in 1988 to provide light into the underground lobby of the museum. http://www.euholidays.com.sg/ Eiffel Tower

WELLINGTON
Wellington is the capital of New Zealand and was most recently voted as one of the world’s most liveable cities – and it’s not hard to see why! The small city is renowned for its diverse attractions that ranges from its rich heritage to its unspoilt native beauty. First-timers to this place must make time to head to the top of Mount Victoria – the popular lookout stands 196m above the city – for panoramic views of Wellington. Learn more about the beautiful country you’re visiting at the Te Papa Tongarewa Museum – the national museum and art gallery which features everything from the colossal squid,

Situated around a reservoir, the non-profit establishment brings you into a wild and unspoilt arena home to rare birds such as the tūī, kākā and kereru, as well as other native species. K Yoga
orea is a wonderful place to visit in any season. The colours that wash over the various sights in this country over the course of the four main seasons is almost always picture-perfect. The province of Gangwon in particular, is one such place blessed with glorious sights all year round. If you ever find yourself in Gangwon, there are at least three different locations you have to set foot in for a true Korean holiday experience. Located in the Gangwon province, the Pyeongchang County is one such place to visit as it is known for its imposing mountains and splendid beaches. Its diverse landscape, excellent natural topography and location is also a reason why it is the host city of the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics! Another county, Jeongseon, is known for its rugged, charming, and natural beauty. Gangneung is our final recommendation – the largest city in Gangwon that’s located close to the shore, and filled with modern as well as cultural hotspots you must not miss. Cohesively, the three different areas are commonly and often referred to simply as Pyeongchang.
Best of Pyeongchang: Food
Just thinking about enjoying Korean food is enough to make one drool. If you find yourself in Jeongseon, it will be incredibly easy to find a bowl of Kotdeung-chigi (buckwheat noodles), as the dish is representative of the county. The chewy noodles are made by boiling buckwheat noodles and chopped zucchini and green onion with soybean paste. It is relatively easy to find these yummy noodles anywhere in the
Byeongbangchi Observatory in Jeongseon
province, but for an authentic bowl of the good stuff, it is highly recommended that you try it in Jeongseon. Another specialty dish that can be found in this region is the Memil-jeonbyeong (buckwheat crepe). Made by stuffing thin healthy buckwheat flour with radish, Chinese cabbage, and meat, these delicious pockets of goodness are rolled, fried and served piping hot. Chodang sundubu (Chodang soft tofu) is another dish that is synonymous with the town of Gangneung, Gangwondo. Chodang sundubu features boiled soft tofu keeping its savory taste intact. This soft and slippery dish is light yet tasty. For those who enjoy a little more flavor, seasoning is often added. You can also enjoy a variety of tofu dishes such as dubu jeongol (tofu hotpot) and modeum dubu (tofu set meal) at the many different Chodang sundubu restaurants, located in the village of the same name, just south of the Gyeongpo Lake.
Guryong Falls in Gangneung
Jumunjin Breakwater is one of the most famous sightseeing spots in Gangneung in 2017. The scenic spot is a great spot for a picture opportunity. Its popularity as a romantic destination increased exponentially after a Korean drama utilised this place to film. On weekends, the breakwater is filled with couples trying to replicate on-screen scenes. Located in Jeongseon-eup, the Byeongbangchi Observatory provides you with captivating views of Bamseom Island and Donggang River. Elevated 583m above ground, the Byeongbangchi Skywalk brandishes thrill and creates the illusion of ‘walking on air’. Visitors who want to head all the way to the edge have to walk on tempered glass, which juts out from the side of the cliff. With unobstructed views for miles on end, this skywalk is one attraction that will take your breath away. For those who want to feel the sand between their feet and the sun on their skin, visit the pristine beaches in the city of Gangneung. Songjeong Beach stretching up to the north of Anmok Beach, is one of the few undeveloped natural beaches – making it an ideal and tranquil spot. Despite the lack of tourists flocking to these beaches, the adventures can still enjoy a variety of sea sports, such as kiteboarding! Jeongseon Rail Bike

TRAVERSE THE MODERN SILK ROAD TRAVEL
From ancient ruins to sand dunes that sing, the Silk Road Tour is filled with unexpectedly gorgeous gems.
T
he Seventh Dunhuang Tour on the Silk Road International Tourism Festival, co-hosted by China National Tourism Administration and Gansu Province, kicked off in the Gansu Province. Cohosted by China National Tourism Administration and Gansu Province and guided by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the event has been successfully staged for six consecutive years since 2011. The festival features the spectacular, diversified, and practical, and has since become an international platform to promote international tourism cooperation. This year, Travel Journal was invited to be part of the week-long festivities, and I was able to experience a part of China that I had only heard about. The tour on the Silk Road International Tourism Festival was held in Yongjing County, Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, in the province of Gansu. The main activities included an opening ceremony, 2017 Silk Road International Tourism Promotion Night, “Glamorous River, Colorful Linxia” Light Show, Silk Road International Tourism Exposition, Silk Road International Travel Agencies Conference and technical tours. The Gansu is a province in north-central China. Its Jiayuguan City is known for the striking Overhanging Great Wall and the imposing Jiayuguan Pass fortress complex, both of which are a part of the world-renown Great Wall of China. The nearby city of Jiuquan is a gateway to the July 1st Glacier (named as such because it was found on this date), which lies in the Qilian Mountains, and to the south, the Gobi Desert.

over 350,000 artefacts, in two main sections: history and natural science. The next day, we departed to Wuwei, the first stop on the way from Lanzhou City to the Hexi Corridor. With abundant historical recourses, the city is considered to be one of the most famous historical and cultural cities of China. Wuwei City in central Gansu once occupied a strategic position on the famous Silk Road. In 1969, a tomb dating back to the Han Dynasty was discovered. The Leitai Tomb, as it is now known, is a popular tourist attraction. It is home to over two hundred and thirty relics of gold, silver, copper, and jade as well as various intricate pieces of pottery. After a stop for lunch, the next attraction on the itinerary was the gorgeous Danxia National Geological Park in Zhangye. The park was formed by the erosion of red sandstones over the course of time, forming magnificent isolated peaks and steep valleys. Its current mystical and ‘art-brought-to-life’ appearance is a result of a combination of masterful strokes by nature: the unforgiving heat of desert conditions, freeze-thaw peeling, strong winds and mighty water erosion all have a part to play in forming the park that you see today. The next day, we headed to the first pass of the west

of the Great Wall of China, which was built during the era of the Ming Dynasty. The Jiayuguan Pass of Great Wall has a complex and integrated defence system – including something called ‘Beacon Towers’. As a part of its defence systems, these towers were built to spy on enemies or send smoke signals. We retired for the night at Dunhuang, a city on the edge of the Gobi desert, and I went to bed in anticipation of what was in store for tomorrow. In the morning, the Singing Sand Mountain and Crescent Springs were waiting. The former attraction is also known as the Echoing Sand Mountain; here, the winds don’t move quietly through the golden sands and if you slide down the slopes, the sand beneath your feet supposedly turns from a whisper into a crescendo-like drum beat. The mountain stretches for over 40 km in length and 20 km in width, with the highest point reaching 250 meters. Legend has it that years of warring on the site is a reflection of the roars of soldiers from the ancient times. The next stop was at the Crescent Lake – a lake in the shape of a - you guessed it - crescent. The little lake is surrounded by the vastness of the desert and is little fixture of oxymoronic wonder; an absolutely beautiful sight to behold! My absolute favourite part of the trip was visiting The Mogao Caves – a shrine dedicated to a myriad of Buddhist art treasure. The caves are also a UNESCO World Heritage site, a real treasure trove of ancient history, all of which gave
