2022 is already off to a remarkable start There is no doubt that Americans (in more ways than one) are on the move like never before. We’ve all heard about the “great resignation” and workers leaving their jobs and industries entirely to pursue other interests. However, what I find far more fascinating is what I like to call the “great relocation” which began back in 2020 and seems to be growing exponentially every year. This phenomenon is evident in the remarkable statistics related to our outgoing referrals and incoming new arrivals. In the last six months, 52% of our outgoing referrals migrated to other parts of Florida. 40% of those were home sale referrals and 21% were listing sales. The next most popular outbound destination was North Carolina, followed by Georgia, South Carolina and New York. 36% of our first-quarter inbound business came predominantly from Illinois and other parts of Florida. Statewide, 19% of new Floridians came from the Northeast with another nine percent from the Southwest, primarily Colorado. We’ll continue to watch this trend closely. The Fort Myers/Cape Coral MSA (and Lee County as a whole) has been one of the most popular markets for those relocating to Southwest Florida. Our stellar team of agents continues to achieve and break records. Over 450 of them were recognized at our annual banquet earlier this year—not surprising given it was a recordbreaking year for the company overall, with a 2021 sales volume of nearly $6 billion. We have also successfully recruited top performing agents from other brokerages whose expertise and loyal clientele truly make us a formidable force in Southwest Florida.

Custom home theaters in cinematic grandeur South America. 1936. An intrepid archeologist trudges through the jungle. Cleverly avoiding potentially lethal traps, he reaches the middle of the temple. His face glows in the light reflected from a golden idol. Taking it triggers a storm of poisonous darts and an immense boulder which nearly crushes him. The music intensifies until Indiana Jones bursts out of the temple, covered in spider webs and surrounded by local tribesman armed with spears and arrows. You can experience the most iconic movie moments like those in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” with all the majesty and sound of the big screen in your own custom home theater. Homeowners are remodeling or custom-building their homes with specialty spaces. Among the grandest are custom home theaters and entertainment rooms. According to Sherie Weidner, interior designer with Naples-based Clive Daniel Home, their increasing popularity is largely due to their “happiness factor.” She reveals, “Changes over the past two years have indirectly created a significant urge to modify the blueprint of homes to focus more on entertainment.” Sherie and fellow Clive Daniel Home interior designer Kathy Monahan worked alongside custom builder Curtis Gunther, Imperial Homes of Naples, LLC, on a Quail West client’s 1,600-square-foot addition. It comprised a theater, expansive wet bar, chat area and powder bath. The Hollywood-inspired custom theater room features images of Marilyn Monroe (an iconic favorite of the client), including the 12-by-16-foot screen. Aaron Orzack of Executive Electronics designed the electrical components for optimal video and sound. The design won the 2020 CBIA Sand Dollar Award for Best Addition by a Builder and CBIA 2021 Sand Dollar Award for Best Theater Design.

Custom home theaters evolve

Sherie Weidner concurs and concisely sums up what she and her interior design colleagues are experiencing on their projects. “Trends in the designs of theater rooms have changed almost as much as the need to have one. The newer trends lean toward adding color in upholstery, accessories, artwork and even background designs—including the walls, floors and ceilings. Theater room seating has become sleeker in design, with straighter lines that complement the increasingly popular contemporary fashions. And yes, cup holders are still available.”

Finding the perfect space for a theater room can come with its own challenges. According to Weidner, “Typically, a theater room is in a quiet, self-contained location offering the least interference from daily activities inside the home. The ultimate spot was secluded from both the family room and bedroom areas.” Black mahogany doors with horizontal gold inlays create an elaborate entrance into the room.

There was a time when first-run content could only be accessed by actually going to the cineplex. Some premium streaming subscriptions promised the same, but on a limited basis. Everything changed, however, when Hollywood ditched its old rules and started releasing films to mass-market streaming services at the same time they premiered in theaters. Now cinema aficionados can experience a movie at home while it debuts in theaters simultaneously.

Sherie goes on to say, “While most home theaters often mimic the look of cinemas, this one is light and bright—while still offering the ability to control the lighting for a true Hollywood movie experience.” Sometimes the darkness and drama of a private cinema are exactly a homeowner’s style and preference, such as the theater designed by Clive Daniel Home interior designers Charlie Hansen and Rebekah Errett-Pikosky. “It was designed as part of a renovation for a stunning 26th floor Marco Island penthouse overlooking the Gulf of Mexico,” Hansen explains. “Wenge-finished wood molding and column details flank deep plum upholstered wall panels and crystal wall sconces. ” The contractor who oversaw the renovation, 41 West, incorporated and specified all the home theater tech components.

Advances in video, sound and lighting

Comfort and style prevail

In fact, the experience is heightened in a 2022 home theater by available technology in a space designed to your personal liking. A rising trend in home theaters is full ultra-high definition resolution. 4K screens were recently the industry standard, but 8K is now the most up-to-date version. 8K screens offer a higher level of PPI with a crisper and smoother display. Stay up to date as streaming services transfer over to this technology.

The room also features two custom L-shaped sectionals facing each other, creating a center path into the room. In the middle of the room, the designers added a custom oversized square ottoman for comfort and additional seating. This sits upon custom-dyed silk and wool carpeting in a soft gold tone. “We don’t see as much conventional, reclining theater-room seating in homes anymore,” Errett-Pikosky states. “Instead, we’re doing upholstered seating with ottomans in custom sizes to perfectly fit the space. This gives the room a cozier, more luxurious feel.”

Emily K. Bua and Tade Bua-Bell are longtime supporters of the college scholarship programs that the Champions for Learning offers and have donated the funds for over ten scholarships over the years. They are proud to donate to local charities from every closing and thanks to their clients. The event which recognized supporters raised $200,000 at the Night of Champions in February 2022. Tade was presented with flowers.
