Collier County residents, including John R. Wood Agent Michelle Paradis, will participate in the National Association of Letter Carriers’ food drive. Michelle does more than participate; she has coordinated this event for 20 years! In its 20th year, Collier Harvest, a local non-profit group which delivers food overages and donations to area agencies, will head up the drive again this year. Residents are asked to leave unopened/non-perishable canned food and dry goods next to their mailbox or in their complex’s mail room. Postal workers will pick up the donations. The Phil

With a calendar that includes over 400 events per year, the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts has been the area’s premier live performance destination since opening in November 1989. Known simply as “the Phil,” it’s located in Pelican Bay in North Naples. The centerpiece of the Phil is the 1,425-seat Hayes Hall that features superb acoustics and a 2,956 square foot stage. The Center also is home to the 283-seat Daniels Pavilion “black-box” theater that is suitable for chamber music, cabaret and theater-inthe-round, two sculpture gardens and four museum-quality art galleries. The Phil’s performance schedule includes world-class theater, dance, opera and classical and popular music. Edward Villella’s Miami City Ballet presents a series of three programs each season. Metroplitan Opera star Renee Fleming The Phil is home to the internationally acclaimed Naples Philharmonic Orchestra. The Orchestra has played with some of the world’s leading conductors and soloists and accompanied such legendary vocalists as Luciano Pavarotti, Renee Fleming, Andrea Bocelli, Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Kiri Te Kanawa. In addition to the Orchestra, the Phil also boasts the 110-voice Philharmonic Center Chorale, a children’s Youth Chorale and the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. The Patty & Jay Baker Naples Museum of Art, Southwest Florida’s only full-scale art museum, is located on the Philharmonic Center campus.

Opera Naples Now entering its eighth season, Opera Naples is Southwest Florida’s first and only professional regional opera company and one of the area’s leading performing arts organizations. The Sugden

Those who crave live theatre will find no shortage of performances in Naples. For all its dining establishments, bright lights and taverns featuring live music, one of 5th Avenue South’s most prominent attractions is The Sugden Community Theatre. The Sugden is home to The Naples Players, a community theatre company now entering its 60th season. The Sugden’s 326-seat Blackburn Hall and 100-seat Tobye Studio host performances showcasing the talents of the Players’ volunteer actors, directors, designers and crew, all of who are from the greater Naples

area. A sampling of The Naples Players’ extensive credits includes performances of Hello Dolly, Steel Magnolias, Sweet Charity, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Crimes of the Heart, Once Upon a Mattress, Man of La Mancha, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Little Shop of Horrors and numerous original works. Gulfshore Playhouse is Naples’ first professional, self-producing theatre organization. All performances are held at the 200-seat Norris Center in Cambier Park. Gulfshore Playhouse’s shows are created inhouse by a team of professional designers and technicians, as well as Equity actors with credits ranging from Broadway shows to film and television. Opening the Gulfshore Playhouse 2012-2013 main stage season is “Reza in Rep,” two Tony-Award winning productions in repertory: Art and God of Carnage, both by Yasmina Reza. “Reza in Rep” is playing October 20 through November 18. Gulfshore Playhouse and the Philharmonic Center for the Arts announced a partnership for the play Art. Ticket-holders for Art are entitled to two-for-one admission to the Patty & Jay Baker Naples Museum of Art while patrons with a museum ticket will receive a 10-percent discount on a ticket to Art. The Playhouse will start the New Year with a “to be announced” drama on January 18 through February 3, 2013. One of the funniest comedies in the English language, The Importance of Being Earnest, A Trivial Comedy for Serious People by Oscar Wilde, will play February 15 through March 3. The third production of the spring is the period drama The Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez, playing March 15 through 30. The final show of the 2012-2013 Season is Master Class by Terrance McNally, playing at the Phil April 5 through 21. Six and four show subscriptions and single performance tickets are available. TheatreZone

TheatreZone is a professional Equity Regional Theatre Company that brings the “Lost Treasures of Broadway” to Southwest Florida audiences. Performances are staged at the G&L Theatre on the campus of the Community School of Naples at 13275 Livingston Road just north of Pine Ridge Road and a short distance from I-75 exit 107. Shakespeare in Paradise The genius that is Shakespeare has hit Naples full-force thanks to Shakespeare in Paradise, a nonprofit theatre company comprised of a professional ensemble of adult actors and student interns. Founded by John McKerrow in 2011, the company has performed Macbeth: A Love Story and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Both productions drew rave reviews. Barron Collier High School has partnered with Shakespeare in Paradise to make its auditorium the company’s permanent home. A portion of ticket sales benefits the Barron Collier drama department. Plans for the 2012-2013 Season include another Shakespeare production, as well as smaller productions of works by other playwrights.
