CAREERS BULLETIN University of Cambridge- Year 11 Summer School, Sunday 19 August – Wednesday 22 August 2018 Christ’s College, Sidney Sussex and Murray Edwards College will be hosting summer school for Year 11 students, from Sunday 19th – Wednesday 22nd August 2018. The colleges will provide meals and accommodation free of charge. The summer school will include a series of masterclasses by Cambridge researchers in Biology/Medicine, Biology/Chemistry, Physics, Maths, English, History, Social Sciences and Law. It will also provide an opportunity to get to know Cambridge as well as admissions information and a chance to meet current students. There will also be continuing academic support from researchers provided throughout the following school year.
The summer school is open to students who will have just completed their GCSEs at a state school and will be going on to study academic qualifications in Sixth Form, either at school or college. The whole conference is free of charge (including meals and accommodation), with the exception of travel to/from Cambridge. Students must complete an online application form: (https://cambridge.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV _6monZWNiIy5itUx) before the closing date of Thursday 24th May at 5pm
Places on the summer school are limited, therefore students are advised to apply as soon as possible. Students will be informed whether or not their application has been successful by Friday 15th June. If they have been successful, they will then be sent a parental/guardian consent form and code of conduct which will need to be completed in advance of the summer school. This is a great opportunity for students who wish to develop their knowledge of Biology, Medicine, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, English, History, Social Sciences or Law.
Save the Date – Inspire and Careers Lunchtime Talk, Thursday 3 May Former student, Ayesha Wynne (Class of 2006) will be giving a careers talk on her work as an Architect. She will provide an overview of her job and explain how she became an Architect. Year 7 – 13 students are warmly invited to attend the talk on Thursday 3 May, 1.45 – 2.20pm in the Learning Centre.
Save the Date – Law Careers talk, Friday 4 May, JHGS Richard Wainman will be giving a careers talk at JHGS, Friday 4 May at 1.40pm. Richard works as a family lawyer and conducts almost all of his own advocacy at the family Court. Year 12 and Year 13 students are warmly invited to attend the talk at JHGS. They should contact Mrs Miles in the first instance if they wish to attend the talk.
