WYCOMBE HIGH SCHOOL

SPORTS BULLETIN NATIONAL SUCCESS Swimming National School Finals

Congratulations to the Wycombe High School Intermediate Swimming Team who gained a Silver medal at the National School Relay Finals at the Olympic Aquatic Centre on 21 November. A wonderful achievement having come fourth last year. They are the second best intermediate medley team in the county.

INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS Football Bethan Metcalfe (Year 8) is enjoying being the only girl in the 11 a-side U13s Widmer End United Football Team.

Judo Alisa Sydykova (Year 9) recently won a Silver medal in Orange and Yellow belts at Southend International Judo competition where she won 4 out of her 5 fights. She also earned a Bronze medal at Harrow ‘Green Belt and under’ Judo competition.

Karate Congratulations to Dawn Harper (Year 10) who achieved the grade of Black Belt in Karate for under 16s and won a Bronze medal in a recent national tournament.

Swimming Naveesha Karunanayaka (Year 9) competed at her first swimming National Championship in Sri Lanka. There she established two Junior National records in 100 freestyle and 200 IM, winning the Girls Junior National Champion title. She also participated in 100 free, 100 back, 200 free, 200 IM and 400 free events, where she medalled in Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Volley Ball Isabelle Tucker (Year 7) s a keen volley ball player. It was in America that Isabelle developed her skills and made it into the Orlando Volleyball Academy U10s team that finished 14th in the US National Volleyball Championships.

TEAM SUCCESS Squash WHS U19 Squash vs Downe House B On Wednesday 11 November, the U19 team played Downe House B team in a heated match. Wycombe High pulled through in the end winning 3 matches to 2. WHS U15 and 19 Squash v Aylesbury High On the 18 November the U19 & U15 played Aylesbury High. The U15 team beat Aylesbury High School by 5 to 0. The U19 team beat Aylesbury High School by 4 to 1. . Both teams have made it to stage two of the National Schools Championships. If they win their next match in January they go to the finals in March.


‘TEAM WYCOMBE HIGH SCHOOL’ SUCCESS Our first event of the year was the Marlow Santa Fun Run on Sunday 6 December. This was ‘Team Wycombe High School’s’ first event to fundraise for our new dual all-weather pitch facility. We had over 40 parents, student and staff participate and raise much needed funds. Everyone needs to play their part in order for the campaign to be a success. We invite you to run, walk or otherwise exercise with ‘Team Wycombe High School’ in a series of events to raise money for the first of two pitches which we hope to have in place early 2017. We have identified the following events, races and walks: January - New Year New Sport-a-Thon May – Marlow ‘5’ Miles June – Stokenchurch ‘Run the Rock’ 5K & 10K July – Wycombe 10K & Half Marathon Please participate in a sponsored walk of your choice and let us know the details In January we launch our ‘New Year New Sport-a-Thon’ where we are asking parents, students and staff to run, row, cycle, swim, walk, hike etc. the equivalent of a marathon (26.2 miles) over three months securing sponsorship to go towards the ‘Play Your Part’ Sport Campaign. Please do get in touch if you would like to join ‘Team Wycombe High School’ in any of our events.
