Rowing Two of our Year 10 students are to be congratulated on their rowing success! Eloise Brindle (Y10, C5) and Elizabeth Hollis (Y10, N5) were selected to compete as two of 941 rowers to represent their region (Thanes Upriver – Isis to Teddington Lock) at the annual Junior InterRegional Regatta at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham on Saturday 21 April.

Welcome to the Sports Bulletin, a half-termly update of our students’ sporting achievements. Go to the Sports website for details of fixtures and follow us on Twitter @WycHighsports.

Individual Success Netball Congratulations to Pheobe Grey and Stef Marsden who after the England U21 indoor netball trials have been selected to be two of the eighteen athletes for the long squad! Pheobe and Stef will train until next year when twelve out of the eighteen athletes will be selected to go the World Indoor Championships hosted in South Africa in October. A massive achievement at only 15 and 16! We wish them luck with their ongoing training and future team selection!

Elizabeth Hollis – Maidenhead WJ15 Double Sculls - Silver Their region, Thames Upriver, took the overall Victor Ludorum (the Di Ellis Shield) after amassing the highest points total on the day, as well as winning the Margaret Marshall Cup for the Junior Women’s event .

WHS student Izzy Tucker has been selected to represent England U19’s Volleyball Squat at the annual Crown Services Invitational, held on 12-13 May at RAF Halton.

On Saturday 17th March, Ana Montgomery was selected to take part in the English Schools National Cross Country Championships in Leeds at Temple Newsam. An outstanding achievement!

This is the first year an England Juniors squad have been invited to the event which includes the top women’s and men’s national teams: Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, Prison Service and Fire Service.

In the days leading up to the competition, the weather forecast was not looking great. Heavy snow was predicted throughout the day and strong winds threatened to postpone the competition. The previous week heavy rain and snow meant that no athletes could walk the course in order to preserve the course condition for the races. Regardless, just over 2000 athletes turned up to race in the undulating and tough conditions. Ana came 311th in her senior race.

Congratulations to Izzy with her first U19 cap and good luck to Izzy and her England teammates at this amazing event!

“Not one of my best races, but at least I kept my spikes on, an unusual feat for me this cross country season, considering the fact that I have run more races without my shoes on, than with them on this season! Despite this, the day, although freezing, was a brilliant experience, an opportunity to gain experience and make new friends in the team. It was a day to be remembered!” -Ana Montgomery
