Trader’s averaged only 4 pages and had a circulation of approximately 500 copies. Today, Trader’s has moved to the forefront of the market in southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska. Our most recent circulation audit indicates that almost 20,000 copies are picked up every issue. Boy Scouts to Collect Christmas Trees Christmas tree collection throughout the City limits of Cheyenne will take place on Saturday, January 10, by local Boy Scouts. Trees to be picked up should be placed on the front curb by 6:30am and must be free of tinsel, wire, nails, ornaments, plastic bags and other nonnatural materials. In case of windy weather, trees should be secured to a mailbox or fixture with twine that can easily be cut. Those who would like to dispose of their tree before or after January 10 can drop them off at the City’s Compost Facility, 3714 Windmill Road. Zonta Club Art Contest On Saturday, January 10, 3:005:00pm, the Zonta Club of Cheyenne will host a free, drop-in art reception at the Hynds Building. The reception provides an opportunity to view the entries of an art contest focused on bringing community awareness to the issue of human trafficking. The artists have been invited to the reception and the original art pieces will be on display. Photos of the art entries will hang in the Hynds Building windows through about January 15. Equestrian team gallops into ﬁrst

Tamara Rodgers Practice for success: Ryan Honaker placed ﬁrst in beginner horsemanship at LCCC’s western event on Nov. 22–23.

The Laramie County Community College equestrian team saw great success at its only home event the weekend of Nov. 22–23. LCCC was one of seven schools to compete in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association western horse show. LCCC’s equestrian team placed first on both days of the competition. The Golden Eagles’ Alyssa Redding qualified on Sunday for western regional competition which will be in March. Redding also placed second and fifth in intermediate II horsemanship. Teammate Shelby Diede was the high-point rider on Saturday. Diede placed first and fourth in reining and second and seventh in open horsemanship. The Golden Eagles’ Taylor Wolken placed first and third in advanced horsemanship. Shelby Coyle placed first and sixth in intermediate I horsemanship. Teammate Eleanor “Ellie” Pontoniero took first on both days in intermediate I horsemanship. Ryan Honaker placed first and fourth in beginner horsemanship, and Troy Wright advanced to first and third in beginner horsemanship. The LCCC equestrian team’s next event is a hunt seat competition in Fort Lupton, Colorado, on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.

Livestock teams having good year The Laramie County Community College’s livestock teams are off to a positive start this year. According to Bryan Wilson, agriculture instructor, in Kansas City, Missouri, Brady Bundy placed eighth overall in cattle, and Logan Cecil placed ninth overall in hogs at the American Royal competition. Cecil also placed seventh overall in cattle in Louisville, Kentucky, at the North American International Livestock Exposition. “That is probably the first time a LCCC livestock judging team has gotten their names called in a national contest in

20 years. That is a good thing,” Wilson said. LCCC has two teams who travel to quite a few national competitions and several other smaller competitions. The nationally sanctioned contests include Denver, Louisville, San Antonio, Houston, Kansas City and Fort Worth. A competitor must attend four of these to be considered an “All-American Livestock Judger.” The livestock judging team is an association. The team recently returned from Kentucky where they participated in competitions against other community colleges across the country.

In livestock judging there are 12 classes of livestock, with four animals in each class. The students give each animal a place value for its class. After doing so, they have to defend their results orally to the judges. Each class is worth 50 points, and every oral reason is worth 50 points. The livestock show team competes in open shows, not just with other colleges but with producers as well. In this category the students use livestock from producers and get them ready for shows. When they are ready, they take the animals to compete.

The show team had a very strong showing at the Northern International Livestock Expedition (NILE) in Billings. They didn’t get any banners but had numerous class winners and took second place in a few classes. The livestock shows are judged by the producer who is sponsoring the show. The scores for the livestock shows are subjective by the individual judging the contest. The students are fully responsible for the animals including feeding and grooming. Both teams will participate in the Denver Stock Show in January.
