South’s Senior Gift By: Bailey Williams Seniors Dax Fisher, Allie Robert, Ellie Brewer, Ryan Loetscher, Tristin Rennick, Dusty Lick, Lena Arntzen, and Natalie Schwab helped put this year’s senior gift together for South High School. Natalie Schwab explained, “We now have a historical element that tourists can come see and be a part of. It’s something that draws positive attention to South.” The boot is something that can change South’s reputation, and it’s outside so community members can see it when they drive by. The seniors went through several designs for the boot before they found “the one.” They wanted the design to be all about South, and they put a lot of thought into making it be all about what South students represent. South High art teacher Chad

Blakely painted the boot for the school and in order to raise money for this boot, Seniors sold South themed clogs and slides. Ellie Ryan Loetscher, Natalie Schwab, Brewer ac- Ellie Brewer, Lena Arntzen knowledged, “We wanted it because Central has a boot, but it’s inside where nobody sees it. One of the boys on the committee pointed out that if Central can have one, why can’t we?” This year’s seniors wanted to be a part of the boot tradition and maybe East will be next to get a boot and continue the tradition Central started.

Trishaw Electric Bike Rides Coming to Cheyenne

Miles of Smiles in partnership with AARP Wyoming, Edgewood Healthcare and CaringEdge Therapy are initiating the Cycling Without Age program this summer. Cycling Without Age takes anyone with limited mobility out for free bike rides on specialized electric bikes called trishaws. These trishaws are designed for safe access to get in and out of the rickshaw with an ideal set up with passengers in the front for the best view. Volunteers will be taking the elderly residents of Sierra Hills and Aspen Wind along the Cheyenne Greenway. The Miles of Smiles Cheyenne Launch Ride will take place on a resident’s 94th birthday, April 22, at 2:00pm, out of Cahill Park. The program will run through the summer and into the fall, weather permitting. Currently the program is seeking volunteers to be cyclists, the best cyclists are good conversationalists, good listeners and are comfortable on a bike. Training will be provided. East Cheyenne Community Park Open House

A second public open house for the East Cheyenne Community Park will take place Thursday, April 28, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, at the Saddle Ridge Elementary School Gymnasium, 6815 Wilderness Trail. Cheyenne Animal Shelter Spring Adoption Event

The Cheyenne Animal Shelter has reduced all adult dog adoption fees to $99 for a Spring Cleaning adoption event. Over the last two days, the Shelter has had an intake of nearly 50 dogs that has sent their dog population numbers to a new high. Prior to the intake of dogs there were over 30 available dogs on the adoption floor, many of them have been at the shelter for an extended period of time and can’t wait to find homes. If you are unable to adopt you can still help out in several ways by donating funds for care, donating Purina One dog food or by asking them about fostering or taking a dog out for a day. You know those very small, hard pieces of candy that are sprinkled on top of the frosting of cupcakes to make them look festive? In France, those are called DRAGEE(S). A DRAGEE actually can be any size, from a small sprinkle to Jordan almonds which are almonds covered with a candy coating. In Italy they are known as CONFETTO (because they resemble CONFETTI). The main definition is anything sweet that can be consumed, but can also be used as a decoration. Are M&Ms (not a word, by the way!) considered DRAGEES? Yes, they are. The Southeast Wyoming Estate Planning Council invites professionals in the area to consider becoming a member. The SEWEPC is made up of dedicated professionals in the legal, accounting, financial services, trust and foundation professions working with clients to help them with their estate planning needs. Estate planning is not just for the wealthy. Everyone has an estate, and they want to be able to dispose of their “things” according to their wishes. The Council helps bring different disciplines together for the common good of the client. Meetings are held monthly September-May, the last Tuesday of the month, at noon at the Metropolitan, 1701 Carey Avenue, unless otherwise announced at hosted location.
