Wingspan, Laramie County Community College’s student media organization, has earned 21 awards from three national journalism organizations during the spring 2019 semester. Wingspan was honored with a first-place award with special merit for Best Scholastic Newspaper by the American Scholastic Press Association, extending Wingspan’s streak of winning either first-place or first-place with special merit in this contest to 29 years. Wingspan also was honored for Best Outstanding Feature Section and Outstanding Service To The Community. The Wingspan staff was prized with a firstplace regional Mark of Excellence award by the Society of Professional Journalists for the Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper. QUAGGA

There are several extinct types of horses or horse-like animals. One of these is the QUAGGA, which became extinct in the 1800s. It was a subspecies of ZEBRA. The EOHIPPUS was the very ďŹ rst horse, that lived millions of years ago. The TARPAN was a wild horse that lived in Asia, and the last specimen died in 1909. An animal with stripes is sometimes termed ZEBRAIC or ZEBROID. A tree with striped wood is called ZEBRANO. The offspring of a ZEBRA and an ass is called a ZEBRASS, of a horse and ZEBRA, a ZEBRINE. Superday 2019 Headliners As part of the “Be Entertained!â€? theme for this year’s Superday, the Community Recreation & Events team is excited to announce MarchFourth and J Shogren Shanghai’d will take center stage at the Lions Park Amphitheater, 4639 Lions Park Drive, on Saturday, June 22. 24th Annual WY ACDA Children’s Honor Choir The Cheyenne All-City Children’s Chorus is hosting the 24th Annual WY ACDA Children’s Honor Choir with a concert on Saturday, June 8, at 4:00pm, in the LCSD#1 Administration Building Auditorium. The Cheyenne All-City Children’s Chorus Concert Choir will perform the ďŹ rst half of the concert under the direction of Marilyn Collins, Artistic Director, followed by the Honor Choir under director Henry Leck. ACCC will join the Honor Choir for the last number on the concert. The concert will consist of a variety of music from a folk song accompanied by a bluegrass band to Vivaldi’s Tecum principium accompanied by a string trio, music from Africa and Malaysia accompanied by drumming ensembles and a piece written in honor of retiring ACCC Artistic Director, Marilyn Collins. The concert is free and open to the public.

Historic Ranch Tour Series Through a generous partnership with the Marie Jordan Bell Fund and Delta Kappa Gamma, Upsilon Chapter, the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum is continuing its work to create programs which focus on western culture and ranch life. Each Ranch Tour will have a trolley ride from the Museum to the ranch, with a presentation on the history of Laramie County Ranches, ranch life and the ranch’s connection with Cheyenne Frontier Days. These tours include a picnic lunch on the ranch property. This summer there will be two ranch tours. Saturday, June 15, 10:00am-2:00pm, they will visit the Y Cross Ranch and Saturday, August 24, 10:00am2:00pm, they will visit the Harding and Kirkbride Livestock Company.
