The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame’s exhibition “Hard Twist: Western Ranch Women”, from Honoree Barbara Van Cleve is going on display at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum, 4610 Carey Avenue in Cheyenne, Wyoming and will go on exhibit beginning May 28 through July 9, during regular Museum hours. The exhibit of over 62 black and white photographs depicting the tough and resilient side of ranch women of the American West. Visitors will enjoy a guided tour of the exhibit available on a special mobile website and hear the remarkable stories behind several of the photographs directly from Van Cleve.

Registration is now open for the City of Cheyenne Adult Co-Rec Flag Football League. The league will be 7-on-7 co-recreational for individuals 16 years and up. Late registration is running from June 4 to June 17 where a $50 late fee will be added. After June 17 all registration will be closed.

The cost of the league is $200 per team, teams will play a six game season from July 13 to August 26.

Games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Eastridge Facility, 1780 East Pershing Boulevard, where the former Carey Junior High School was located. Kid’s Bike Safety Rodeo and Slow Roll

As part of the 30th anniversary of the Greater Cheyenne Greenway this year, a Kids’ Bike Safety Rodeo and Slow Roll have been scheduled for Sunday, June 6, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, at the North Cheyenne Community Park, 3200 Mynear Street.

Riders from Team WyoX, the Cheyenne Middle and High School Mountain Bike Team and their coaches will be assisting with the rodeo to be held in conjunction with Cheyenne Regional Medical Center’s Safe Kids Day. The Bike Rodeo will help kids and their parents learn about their bikes and teach important bike safety skills, kids are asked to bring their bikes and helmets. In conjunction with the Bike Rodeo, Cheyenne Slow Roll will hold a family friendly bike ride at 3:00pm. This roll will travel west along the Greenway on Storey Boulevard and into the Mustang Ridge Subdivision and finally back to the North Cheyenne Community Park. They really hope to see you there! Limpkin

A LIMPKIN, also called a COURLAN, is a wading bird with a WETLAND habitat that runs from Florida all the way down to northern Argentina. Its food consists of MOLLUSCS (or MOLLUSKS).

GRACKLES occasionally steal the snails from a LIMPKIN attempting to eat it. It’s called a LIMPKIN because it seems to limp while it walks. LIMPKINS resemble cranes, but have a drab PLUMAGE. Some birds have a color MORPH. (Most LIMPKINS are drab brown, some can be white, or ALBINO.) Like all birds, they MOLT, or MOULT, twice a year.

A free family fun night will be hosted by the Unaccompanied Student Initiative, USI, on June 11, from 5:30pm to 9:00pm at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Garden Amphitheater, 1210 West 8th Avenue. The event wil feature live music by the City Creek Band, sponsored by Alexis Drake. There will also be a silent auction of many valuable and exciting items donated by their generous sponsors. There will also be raffles and fun games. The Cheyenne Fire Department and Cheyenne Police Department will have exhibits and demonstrations as well. The proceeds for the “ Feel the Burn” event will go towards paying off the mortgage of the USI house. There is $277,000 remaining on the mortgage, thus the title of the event. Archaeology at Sunrise Mine

The Cheyenne Animal Shelter is now accepting applications for Critter Camp, a week long day camp for kids ages 6-10. Critter Camp is sponsored by the Wags and Menace Make a Difference Foundation and is a great way for kids to learn about animals, animal care and handling and humane treatment of our four legged friends!
