FREE Birdwatching Hike to Snowy Range Area Cheyenne High Plains Audubon Society members invite the public to join them Saturday, August 17, on a free, all-day birdwatching hike in the Snowy Range, beginning at Brooklyn Lake and following the Sheep Lake Trail. Participants will leave at 7:00am from Lions Park, 710 South Lions Park Drive, from the parking lot between the Children’s Village and the new picnic shelter. Expect to return late afternoon. The hike will be about 3 miles round trip at over 10,000 feet. Participants must wear sturdy shoes and bring lunch, snacks, water, bug spray and clothing layers for rain and cold. 2019 Plein Air in the Parks Artist Registration Plein Air in the Parks is a collaborative weekend event presented by Wyoming State Parks, the Wyoming Arts Council, and the Lander Art Center. It takes place Thursday-Sunday, September 1215, at Sinks Canyon State Park, Lander, WY. This painting and drawing competition pairs talented artists with beautiful locations and offers cash prizes to top participants. Registration for youth and adult categories is now open and available online at 2019pleinairintheparks.eventbrite.com. Regular and walk up registration after August 15 will be $50. A reduced rate for college students is available for $15 and a youth division rate for those under the age of 18 is available for $5. Artists will have the option of selling pieces produced at the event during the reception. Annual Lakeview Cemetery Walk Discover some of the region’s notable females during the Cheyenne Genealogical & Historical Society’s annual Lakeview Cemetery Walk, on Saturday, August 24. The living history presentation, “Remember the Ladies,â€? a tribute to the 150th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Wyoming, begins at the main gate of Lakeview Cemetery, 2501 Seymour Avenue, and features characters who played large and small parts in Cheyenne’s frontier history. There will be seven new female characters added and two start times for the two hour narrated walking tour. First tour begins at 9:00am and second tour begins at 10:00am. Members of CGHS will portray these historical ďŹ gures in costume. Participants who want to attend either tour should make reservations with Sue (307)286-6239. There is a $5 entrance fee for each adult and $1 for youth and children; preschoolers are admitted free. Participants should begin to gather 15-20 minutes prior and are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, sun protection and bring water. Proceeds fund genealogy book acquisitions for Laramie County Library by the Cheyenne Genealogical and Historical Society.

The Cheyenne Rie and Pistol Club will hold its annual Sight-in-Days for the public on Saturday, August 24, 9:00am-4:00pm and Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8, 9:00am-4:00pm. Hunters and sportspersons can sight in those days for $3 per rie with the help of experienced club members. Bring ammunition you will shoot during the hunt along with eye and ear protection. Free High School Equivalency Classes Students looking to complete their high school equivalency have an opportunity at Laramie County Community College (LCCC), with a new schedule of classes offered through the Adult Career and Education System (ACES). There is no cost to attend these classes. Adult Education and High School Equivalency CertiďŹ cate Preparation are offered in a structured class session, August 26-October 16. LCCC offers two pathways to the High School Equivalency CertiďŹ cate tests. HiSET™ is offered through ACES, and GED 2014ÂŽ is offered through the Exam Lab. These classes prepare students for either test, as both are based on the College and Career Readiness Standards. Information sessions take place at 9:00am and 6:00pm on Tuesday, August 20. The session includes a short overview of the program with time for attendees to ask questions. Parents of those under 18 are encouraged to attend the session with their youth so that the appropriate signatures can be obtained. Classes are offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening, these noncredit classes are available for residents 16 years old or older.
