The living history program, “Act Two: Take This Job and Love It,” presented by the Cheyenne Genealogical & Historical Society is Saturday, August 17. The tour begins at the main gate of Lakeview Cemetery, 2501 Seymour Avenue and features interesting characters who played large and small parts in Cheyenne’s frontier history. This year there will be new figures added and two start-times for the two hour narrated walking tour. The first tour will begin at 9:15am and the second tour will begin at 10:00am. Members of CGHS and friends in costume will portray characters, most of whom are buried in or near Lakeview Cemetery. Participants are invited to attend either of the two tours. There are no reservations required and there is a $10 entrance fee for each adult; children aged 12 and under are admitted free. Participants should begin to gather 15-20 minutes before the start of each tour. Walkers are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and sun protection and bring drinking water if desired. All proceeds help fund book acquisitions for Special Collections at the Laramie County Library by the Cheyenne Genealogical and Historical Society. Donations and sponsors are encouraged. The Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary, Rotaract and Zonta Clubs of Cheyenne have come together to sponsor a food drive Saturday, August 24, from 9:00am3:00pm to support two local food banks, Laramie County Community College’s FNBO Food Pantry, www.lccc.wy.edu/life/foodPantry.aspx and Veterans’ Rock, www.veteransrockchey.org/. Food will be collected at Albertsons (Yellowstone Road), King Soopers (Dell Range) and Safeway. Collections will be taken outside at the front of each grocery store by volunteers from the participating service clubs. All non-perishable donations will be accepted. However, some of the items in high demand include canned chili or soup, canned meat or tuna, pasta and pasta sauce, peanut butter and jelly, ramen noodles, cereal and granola bars. A list of the most sought-after items will be available at each collection point. Cash donations will not be solicited during this food drive, but monetary donations may be sent to any of the individual food pantries. Contact information for each of the participating service organizations will also be available at the food donation collection points. These organizations welcome inquiries from those looking for community service opportunities and seek to grow their membership by showing their dedication to making the world better for others.
