Shawn Dubie Memorial Rodeo is riding into town Brianna Garcia Tri-Editor

The Shawn Dubie Memorial Rodeo is a big thing to the Laramie County Community College Rodeo team and the college as well. The rodeo itself was named after a student who attended LCCC and was part of the rodeo team. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Shawn Dubie was a student here in the late 80â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s. He was killed in a rodeo accident in Greeley, CO,â&#x20AC;? Seth Glause, coach of the rodeo team, said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;The rodeo is a tribute to him. It continues his memory and it also continues what heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s done for our school.â&#x20AC;? While the Shawn Dubie is a big thing to LCCC, it is also a very big deal to the community of Cheyenne. â&#x20AC;&#x153;We get a couple thousand people coming and watching. We get a lot of support from the community and folks around town,â&#x20AC;? Glause said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;We just try and do it bigger

Each region has a certain amount of teams. â&#x20AC;&#x153;In the Central Rocky Mountain region there are thirteen teams.â&#x20AC;? Glause said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll have about 300 contests at the rodeo.â&#x20AC;? According Glause, the way the rodeo will work will be to split each day of the rodeo. The Shawn Dubie rodeo will be doing a big slack on Friday

and Saturday and then eight contestants will be competing in each event in the rodeo. The LCCC rodeo team has been competing since September 13. â&#x20AC;&#x153;I think the rodeo will go well,â&#x20AC;? Glause said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;We have a good group of student athletes and they really jumped in with both feet to help out. They are the ones that are doing all the behind the scenes work so I expect it all to be a great event.â&#x20AC;? With the Shawn

Dubie rodeo being the last rodeo of the fall season for the LCCC rodeo team, the team continues to prepare for the rodeo. â&#x20AC;&#x153;We practice four days a week in the arena, just trying to get better and improve each day. We have goals that we want to accomplish and we do what we can to achieve those goals.â&#x20AC;? Glause said. Though the fall rodeo season is almost over, the team still has many goals that they wish to accomplish going into the spring season. According to Glause, his top goal is to send a team to the College National Finals Rodeo. â&#x20AC;&#x153;I want to have my ďŹ rst CNFR qualiďŹ ers. So, I think those will be very attainable and if we keep doing what weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re doing, I think weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll be right up in the mix with everyone.â&#x20AC;? Glause said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;They take the top two teams in points to the CNFR and then the top three in each individual event

are taken to the CNFR as well.â&#x20AC;? According to Glause, a big thing that is surrounding our commitment pledge is â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Find a way to say yes.â&#x20AC;&#x2122;Find a way to say yes to ďŹ nding success, ďŹ nd a way to say yes in the classroom, and ďŹ nd a way to say yes in the community. â&#x20AC;&#x153;It seems like our students have really bought into it and are ready to help each other out. They want to do whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s necessary to do what it takes to improve and get better.â&#x20AC;? Glause said. The Shawn Dubie Memorial Rodeo will be held October 11-13 at LCCCâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Arena. The rodeo will start at 7pm on Friday Oct. 11 and Saturday Oct. 12 and 11am on Sunday Oct. 13. Admission fees are $10 for general admission, $5 for seniors and youth, and free for Military and children 10 and under.
