Thunderbird Nation committed itself early in the year – Homecoming 2019 was going to be one of the best witnessed in T-Bird country in a long time. Starting with a fun window painting day and ending with the traditional dance, the week featured crazy spirit days, a rousing pep rally, and two big wins over a long-standing rival. The homecoming spirit days started with each class and the faculty sending representatives to the cafeteria to decorate courtyard windows. Some windows featured cartoon characters, some silly sayings, while others promoted the upcoming rivalry games. Each day of the week, starting on October 7, they featured a themed spirit day. Monday found the school decked out in bandannas, big hair and high tops as each class took on a different decade. Tuesday spread American pride with a USA Day. Red, white and blue filled the halls and proved to be one of the more popular days. Kim Kardashian, Barak Obama, and Donald Trump roamed free on Wednesday for Celebrities Day. Visors, popped collars and sunglasses were then all the fashion for VSCO/Frat Thursday. Finally, on the final day, everyone got into the spirit with Fanatic Friday, filling the halls with Thunderbird Blue. The evenings were filled with fun as well. Students piled into the gym on Monday night to kick back and enjoy a viewing of The Greatest Showman. Tuesday night featured a Karaoke contest in the Performance Hall, while Wednesday built up the intensity with a CoEd volleyball tournament. One of the most anticipated events of the football season is the annual homecoming pep rally. Due to the weather, Thunderbird Nation cancelled the outdoor parade, but an indoor parade was proposed and quickly caught on with the students and staff. The band formed at one end of the building and marched the halls, leading students in formation and into the gym. In one of the loudest and craziest pep rallies anyone could remember, the students set the tone for the game against the Central Indians. The volleyball team set the tone on Thursday night with a convincing win over the Central Indians. In what looked to be a tough battle, the rivalry game started out just the way everyone expected – big plays, big saves, big serves, and crazy loud fans. The No. 3-ranked Thunderbirds went on several big runs, but Central came back time

and time again. “We played really well,” East coach Nicole Quigley said in an interview with www.wyosports.net. “We had an injury last weekend and were working to fill positions. Overall, we were consistent and super composed and didn’t make a whole lot of errors.” East (23-4 overall, 4-0 Class 4A East Conference) battled with Central in early October, earning a 22-25, 25-15, 25-11, 21-25, 15-10 victory. East senior Madison Blaney posted a match-best 11 kills to go with 10 digs and four blocks, while senior setter Ky Buell dished out 19 assists and recorded eight digs. Then, on a cold and clear Friday night, the Thunderbirds and Indians once again squared up, only this time is was on the gridiron of Okie Blanchard Stadium. Many Indian fans believed Central could upset the #4-ranked Thunderbirds, so the stage was set for a great football game. The crowds braved freezing cold weather and were in spirit long before kick-off. The No. 4-ranked Thunderbirds (5-2) held on in the final minutes for 24-21 victory. East’s first touchdown came after junior defensive back Jackson Hesford recovered a Central fumble. Senior running back Christian Anderton put the T-Birds up 7-0 when he caught a pass from junior quarterback Graedyn Buell for a 15-yard touchdown. The Indians quickly answered with a 46-yard touchdown pass that knotted the score 7-7. Central then pulled ahead 14-7 mid-way through the third quarter. Hesford capped East’s next drive with a 2-yard touchdown reception to close out the scoring in the third quarter. The T-Birds then marched down the field in 12 plays and took a 2114 lead with 9:40 remaining when Buell connected with Aumiller for a 26-yard touchdown. And then, in what was the biggest play of the game, Chance Aumiller ran down the Central running back and stripped the ball away for an Indian turnover. That play lead to a 20-yard T-Bird field goal and a 10-point lead. The Indians managed to score one last time with 10 seconds remaining, but it didn’t affect the outcome. Once again, Thunderbird Nation stormed the field to celebrate another East High homecoming victory.

Perhaps the most iconic image of Hawaii is the LEI, a garland made out of owers, shells or other materials. There are eight different ways to craft a LEI, each one known by a different term, but only one of these terms is allowed in ScrabbleÂŽ – HAKU. Caregivers Support Group The Wyoming Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is hosting support groups for caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Halloween Day Harvest Festival The Cheyenne Veterans Affairs Health Care System will hold an all-encompassing Harvest Festival on Halloween, Thursday, October 31, from 2:30pm-5:00pm, at the facility at 2360 East Pershing Boulevard. During the family event, children are encouraged to trick-or-treat from Veteran residents and staff, while adults can apply for VA jobs or learn about programs offered through the department of Veterans Affairs.
