East won our most heated rivalry game against Central on October 12th. The game was exciting and the student sections on both sides really got into it. As usual, the cross-town rivalry sparked the typical banter and badmouthing, but this kind of back-and-forth based on high school allegiances can bring you to wonder: are high school rivalries and the hype we have about them overdone or a thing of the past?
Rivalries go back since the beginning of time, be it family rivalries, tribal rivalries, rivalries between city-states, nations, and more. Rivalries are part of human existence. Humans seem destined for rivalries. So, in that, they seem naturally occurring anyways.
Rivalries are opportunities for team spirit,
despite the us v. them mentality they make us feel. We rally together as a school, get hyped together, and have celebrations to commemorate rivalries. Do we know exactly why? Nope. And that is part of the fun! Is there substantial or real reason to dislike a rival, except when they’ve directly done something hurtful? Not really. And that is part of the fun, too. Just teens being teens, finding that team spirit, getting hyped about their school. School pride, when done right, is a great thing for a teen’s optimism.
Rivalries make us feel like we are part of something bigger than ourselves, which feels cliché, but sometimes it’s nice to be cliché. So, with that said, we at East say that we embrace our rivalries and all school should as well!

A centennial celebration of Cheyenne Eagle Scouts will be held on the evening of Friday, October 25 at the LCCC Clay Pathfinder Building, 1400 East College Drive. Everyone is invited to join the celebration and honor those who have achieved this important milestone in Scouting BSA. The doors will open at 5:00pm and an hour of pre-dinner activities will include trivia games, demonstrations of Scout skills, socializing and a cash bar. There will be something to educate and entertain for all ages. A plated chicken piccata dinner will be served about 6:00pm followed by a keynote speaker. League of Women Voters of Cheyenne
The Cheyenne League of Women Voters has added more online videos and information about candidate races for the general election. In early October, League members interviewed candidates in contested races for Wyoming House districts, Senate District 8, City Council Ward III, LCCC trustees and LCSD #1 trustees. Information about the race for Cheyenne mayor, City Council Wards I and II, and Laramie County Commissioners gathered in July remains accessible. All candidates in the contested races were contacted although not all chose to respond.
