The Cheyenne Historic Preservation Board is proud to announce the release of the 2023 Christmas ornament featuring the dome of the Wyoming State Capitol. This ornament is the fifth in a series of ornaments featuring historic structures in Cheyenne. Sales of the ornaments help fund historic preservation efforts in the city. The gold leaf dome of the Capitol is a Wyoming icon. Attached to each ornament is an actual flake of the gold leaf that at one time graced the Capitol dome. Zonta Club Annual Silent Witness March

Zonta Club of Cheyenne is holding its annual Silent Witness March on the morning of November 20. Anyone who wishes to participate is welcome to join them by gathering in front of the Wyoming Supreme Court Building between 11:45am and noon. Starting at noon, they will walk the short distance to the Laramie County Library with the silhouettes of victims of domestic violence from Wyoming. Upon reaching the library, several of the victims’ stories will be shared in a ceremony of remembrance. The silhouettes will then be placed at the library, with each victim’s story, to allow the public to honor these victims and learn more about the horrors of domestic violence in our community. The silhouettes will be available for viewing through the morning of December 7. Later in the day, on November 20, Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins will sign a proclamation declaring the sixteen days beginning November 25 and ending December 10 to be the Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence. This signing ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:30pm on Monday, November 20. Youth Alternatives Foster Grandparent Program

The School Year 2023-2024 is off to a great start and volunteers are needed to make a difference for the students. The Office of Youth Alternatives Foster Grandparent Program is looking for tutor/ mentors that are 55 years and older to work with children in a classroom setting that need extra support. Foster Grandparents make a difference in the lives of children in our community and earn an average of $350-$500 per month in a non-taxable stipend. Some qualifications apply. ZOYSIA is a type of grass – specifically a creeping grass that is popular for fairways and teeing areas at golf courses. There are several different species of ZOYSIAS. There are many other types of grass, divided into three families such as CEREAL grasses like WHEAT and CORN; BAMBOOS; and GRASSLANDS. ZOYSIA is from a GRASSLAND species. Other favorite grasses for lawns are BLUEGRASS, FESCUE and RYEGRASS. GRAMA grass is found only in the Americas. There are also ORNAMENTAL grasses, such as SEDGES and RUSHES. Grasses do have flowers, that grow in a SPIKELET.

Alaska and the Pacific Flyway Council

Cheyenne Audubon invites the public for a talk November 21, 7:00pm, Cottonwood Room, Laramie County Library, 2200 Pioneer Avenue, by Grant Frost, senior wildlife biologist with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department about his experience as Wyoming’s representative on the non-game committee for the Pacific Flyway Council, which helps direct management of migratory birds. He will talk about the work the Pacific Flyway Council has done, including co-management of migratory birds with indigenous people, and review his birding experience in Alaska while attending the council meeting in Juneau. The Pacific Flyway is one of four major North American flyways birds use to migrate north and south, stretching from Alaska to New Mexico, and into South America, but it covers only west of the Continental Divide in Wyoming. Prosser is a tiny 2-month-old kitten looking for a barn or shop to call his own. This little guy is not the biggest fan of humans and would prefer to spend his days as a working cat taking care of pests and rodents.
