Triumph’s Thanksgiving FeasT

On the last school day before parting ways for Thanksgiving break, Triumph staff and students were hustling and bustling around the building to prepare for their very own Thanksgiving dinner. Staff members donated the food needed for the culinary and baking classes to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal for the entire staff and student body. Preparations for the meal began the week before as students in Aunna Burke’s culinary and baking classes prepared what they could ahead of time for the dinner. The meal consisted of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, gravy, rolls, and a variety of pies. This annual tradition has been in existence since before staff member, Alyssa Sallee, began working there in 2012.

For many students who attend Triumph, a traditional Thanksgiving feast is not always provided over break, so it is important to the staff that this opportunity be pro vided to the students. When students and staff are asked what their favorite part of the meal is, many respond with words about how much they enjoyed eating to gether at a huge table, like a family, in the gym. Custo

As the smell of dinner wafted through the building, students and teachers passed time while participating in a non-traditional day of learning. As students began the day in the advisement classes, the purple village staff prepared a pancake breakfast and hot chocolate for their students before decorating their part of the build ing with holiday paper decorations. Meanwhile the blue village set up a Christmas tree and created ornaments to adorn it. Students then traversed throughout the building engaging in a variety of activities such as holiday crafts, board games, cards, art room creations, robotics, and even a murder mystery while anxiously awaiting their Thanksgiving feast. All bellied up to the table to enjoy the meal when the time came and not a belly left empty as staff and students gobbled their way into the holiday weekend.
