Human TrafďŹ cking Art Contest Zonta of Cheyenne encourages artists of all ages and all medium to submit entries for its sixth human trafďŹ cking awareness art contest. The theme of the contest is Human TrafďŹ cking is 20/20. Submissions must be dropped off at FlyDragon Art Studio at 600 West 17th Street no later than 6:00pm on Saturday, December 28. Entries must include the artist’s name, age, phone number and email address. There is no entry fee. The art will be displayed at the FlyDragon Art Studio for several weeks in January with a public reception to be held from 4:30pm-6:30pm on Wednesday, January 8. Zonta is also sponsoring a follow-up event wherein 25 participants will be able to create a guided painting at FlyDragon Art Studio on the evening of Thursday, January 16. East High School News EHS IB Students Adventure to Southeast Asia By Kani Miller

From the small quiet town of Cheyenne to the very crowded streets of Asia, last June, twelve students travelled to Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam for 11 days. Mrs. Zumo, the biology teacher, set up the whole trip because in Asia the students studied biology. The trip to Asia was a new and interesting experience for the students. “My favorite part of the trip was when we were in Thailand and we got to wash the elephants,� senior Brooklyn Prince said. They also got to see places that one doesn’t see every day in Cheyenne. “My favorite part was being on the beach,� said senior

Madison Terry. “It was really cool. It was different, so it was fun.� Seeing the different cultures throughout Southeast Asia was another high point of the trip for some. “My favorite part was probably going to the markets and bargaining with the local people, said senior Lindsey Eldred. “They were all nice to us because we weren’t from where they were from. It was fun to see that culture and that part of living.� For Madison, Brooklyn, Lindsay and the rest of the travelers, the trip to Asia was an experience they’ll never forget.

Every year, FFA members nationwide converge on the National FFA Convention & Expo to celebrate their accomplishments and ďŹ nd inspiration for their next steps. Our Community Older Job Seekers Can Earn & Update Job Skills For many older Wyomingites, going back to work is not an option, it’s a necessity. A local resource stands ready to help older adults overcome barriers to employment and get the skills they need to ďŹ nd a good job in their communities. The nonproďŹ t organization Experience Works, Inc. operates the Senior Community Service Employment Program, SCSEP, in 21 Wyoming counties. The US Department of Labor funded program is geared for people 55 and older who are unemployed, with limited annual incomes and limited job prospects. The program is free and available to those who qualify. Experience Works continues to accept program applications by appointment Statewide. Participants spend an average of 20 hours a week in work experience training at public and nonproďŹ t organizations, earning minimum wage that is paid through the SCSEP. Examples include performing clerical and administrative duties at nonproďŹ ts; sorting donations at food banks; preparing meals and recreation at senior centers; assisting in classrooms and libraries; and more! These working relationships pay big dividends for both participants and the public and nonproďŹ ts. As participants become job-ready, their efforts provide extra support to tackle projects that might otherwise not be possible due to tight operating budgets. It’s a win-win! The SCSEP is a stepping stone to employment. Participants have access to a variety of additional training and supportive services such as developing resumes, improving interview skills, and identifying job opportunities. Cheyenne Audubon members invite the public to join them on the Cheyenne Christmas Bird Count, Saturday, December 28. Novice birdwatchers are welcome. The count begins at 7:30am in the downtown Post OfďŹ ce lobby, 2100 Capitol Avenue. Participants will split into groups to bird either the Capitol area, Lions Park, Wyoming Hereford Ranch, F. E. Warren Air Force Base or the High Plains Grasslands Research Station for a couple hours. Participants should dress for the weather, but may leave at any time.
