Racing Towards the Holidays

South High School’s Art Club hosted the annual Turkey Stampede 5k on Thanksgiving Day, 2022. The Art Club designed posters for the event and hung them up all over Cheyenne to promote the event. After all the contestants were checked in, members of the Art Club set up at their posts to show the runners where to go, and the race began. “I really enjoyed helping with the Turkey Stampede this year. It was super cold, but I loved to see people doing what they love,” says Art Club member

Cheyenne Gallegos (10). The contestants started on the Northwest side of the student parking lot and ended with a lap around the track. The first-place male and female adult and student runners won a pie to enjoy with their families during their Thanksgiving festivities. When asked what her favorite part of the event was, Clarity Gallegos (10) said, “I really enjoyed seeing all of the runners with their families and dogs smiling and having fun.”

Spring/Youth Co-Rec Volleyball Registration

Teamwork, fundamentals and friendly competition are being served up this spring for the upcoming Youth Co-Rec Volleyball program. This program is open for boys and girls in grades fourth through sixth. Registration is open until January 12, 2023. Late registration will run from January 13-26, where a $25 late fee will be added. After January 26, registration will be closed, so make sure you sign your child(ren) up today! Team practices will begin on February 27, at various local schools. Each team will play eight games over the course of six Saturdays, beginning March 11. Volunteer coaches are needed! Fort Rustle is a village of forts. The Paul Smith Children’s Village at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is seeking to bring a new community event during their dormant season, February through April. They are seeking creative artists, architects, students, construction and tradespersons to design and build forts for visitors to creatively play with, play in, and on. Youth Alternatives Foster Grandparent Program

Start out the 2023 year by helping the children in our community. Volunteers are needed to make a difference for the students. The Office of Youth Alternatives Foster Grandparent Program is looking for tutor/mentors that are 55 years and older to work with children in a classroom setting that need extra support. Foster Grandparents make a difference in the lives of children in our community and earn an average of $300/month in a non-taxable stipend (some qualifications apply).
